  1. You know, I had wondered about this. When I was in the hospital walking around, I would get the hiccups like CRAZY. And they hurt, tons. Now that I'm home, and I feel like I have something coming on I kind of... brace myself for it. I know that hiccups are more on the side of 'spontaneous' so maybe what I'm thinking of is burping, but even when I had them (for two flippin' hours straight) they did feel weird. I definitely hear you!
  2. I feel the same way. I've told a few close people, but everyone else... how do you pick that topic up? =/ To the 'acquaintances' I've said that I had part of my stomach removed because of digestive problems. I thought about gallbladder too, but at least in the long run, if I DO have to have that removed, I dont have people going 'Whaaaat?' I wish I had the strength/courage to be completely honest (although to be fair, I DID have my stomach removed!) and maybe in some time I will feel differently, but for now if the question arises, that's what I'm going with
  3. Same boat as well - sleeved on Tuesday (8/7) and I think by the next day I was in my bed crying because I had ruined my life. I was in the hospital two extra days, I didn't want to drink anything, and when I did I could only have a sip before my body hurt so much I couldn't stand it. WALKING HELPS. That's pretty much all I did when I got the chance, and even though I got the hiccups every time I went for a walk (and boy did they hurt) I could tell they helped with the gas. I think the gas was my biggest issue as well, even when I was cleared to go home, my biggest fear was that I'd have to live with the gas forever. I'm home now and I still dont think I drink as much as they say I should, but I feel tons better. Stitches are of course sore, but I barely have any gas problems. I kept thinking that it wasn't going to ever get better and it did! So hang in there it can only get better from here.
  4. Ahhhh so excited! Best of luck to all my fellow 8/7 sleevers and everyone else who's getting ready to join the losers bench. We can do this
  5. Mine too! I have to be there at 6:30 (womp womp) though. *high-fives*
  6. Have been wondering this myself so thanks everyone for all the answers! I actually just thought of this -- I studied abroad in France for four months and while there, I saw parents (several times) pouring a bit of wine into the Water they gave to their children - a common practice in France. And wine has been said by many people to actually be good for your heart... so I'm wondering if maybe that's not a bad idea. Maybe not day one, or even week one, but adding a tiny bit of whatever type of wine you want to water to ease back into that lifestyle for those who need it. I'm going to try to stay away from fruity/sugary stuff myself, but I'll also be honest - I'm 24, and I'm in college still. It's just a social thing (plus I likes my wineee) but I'm going to be much smarter about it now *hugs stomach*
  7. I'm curious to know how those of you who are in college adapted to the change. I'd like to say that I'm a pretty outgoing person, but being so vastly different from most people in college (I went to a private school, and everyone was rich, thin, super active, and extremely weight conscious - it was terrible ) I kind of became a shut in. I didn't want to go to parties, I didn't want to even go to the caf. I really felt like everywhere I went people were staring or laughing. I'm looking forward to starting a new program at a new college this fall with a brand new body. Well, with the workings towards a new body! It'll be super interesting to see whether or not I can feel comfortable hitting the social scene again, and I'm super excited to try! How did this transition go for anyone else? Not just the college scene, but getting back into the flow of things if you shied away like me?
  8. So, back in Feb. I was told I had to lose 30 pounds before I was able to have my VSG surgery. Well my date is August 7th and I had my second to last weigh in today... only three pounds to go! My surgeon was actually in the office and I talked it over with him and he was happy I'd come so far, and said 3 pounds shouldn't be anything to drop with my liquid diet starting! I was so nervous they'd tell me I have to reschedule... all for nothing! I had to share See everyone on the loser's bench soon! 6 days!
  9. I hope everything went amazing!!!
  10. oh no a week isn't too long to wait though!! here's hoping everything checks out okay
  11. 5 and 15?! Lucky! I have surgery in a week and two days (August 7th - yikes!) and I was required to lose 30. To be completely honest, I'm more scared about having to lose that than I am about the surgery all together. I think if you weren't given a specific goal, just try your best and anything is good. I know it's better if you lose more (since you lose it first in your abdomen? this is what the nurse practitioner told me) but I certainly wouldn't bat a lash at 15 pounds
  12. As long as the hips fit, lol, I'm okay! I'll sit on a pillow or something. Unless you were hinting at the fact that the hips WONT fit in which case fiiiiiiine, but I'll still be comfier than I am now!
  13. Haha, thanks guys! Just by looking around the site I'm already a lot more excited than I have been. And I'll definitely have my game face on - I'm sooo ready for cheaper clothing (I'm a poor college student - can't afford LB prices!) comfy air plane seats aaaaaand I knit, and tons of sweaters and such only come and look good in smaller sizes! So hurrah! I'm actually about to start one that's a couple sizes too small right now my mom says I'm going to be super cold this winter (which also means a new coat - maybe I can find a pea-coat that fits!!) so there's no harm in preparing!
  14. ^ this, exactly. I LOVE to travel but airplanes have always been pretty terrible (I also dont like flying, haha) and so I can't WAIT for this to happen to me. In fact I think 'being comfy in seats' was in the top five of the my 'pros' list.
  15. Hello! I've been lurking on this site for quite a while and I figured, now that my surgery date is so close, it's time take a more active approach. Never in my whole life have I been at an appropriate weight - my whole family is like this. About three years ago my mother had gastric bypass (the roux-en-y surgery) and even though she complains about it a lot (she's quite prone to dramatics) I could easily see that it changed her life. It took a while for me to think about it, but I finally decided early January that this was a step that I wanted to take in creating a long, happy, healthy life. I'm 24, and starting a new school in the fall, and I'm going to have a whole new life to do it with. It's like a huuuge brand new start, a chance to change my approach/outlook on tons of things, and I could not be happier. Honestly. I'm impatient by nature and I have to resist the urge to stamp my foot every once in a while because I want to get these changes underway! I joined the site because, although I'm entirely optimistic about surgery, I'm also extremely worried. I've seen the struggles my mother has gone through, and even though she had a different surgery entirely, I wonder how I'll be able to handle the same things. I dont have a lot of people I feel comfortable broaching the topic of weight loss surgery with and it's a wonderful thing to find an entire forum's worth of people to chat with and gain insight from. I dont have to have all the logistical conversations with myself, and that is awesome! My surgery is currently scheduled for August 7th. I'm worried I wont have lost all the weight by then (I still have 9 pounds to go, although I hear the pre-surgery liquid diet helps a lot with that) but I've come too far to muck it up now. I just can't wait to do this! I have grand plans of being able to ride a bike again, or rollerblade, or attend zumba class! I've been spending weeks looking up home-made meals full of veggies and what not... yay! I also get carried away a lot. Anyhow, I just wanted to drop in and say hi I'm excited to read other peoples' journeys while I'm having my own!
  16. Best of luck!! 24, still in college kicking around some ideas, and I'm having surgery August 7th. It's nice to see a site like this - a hard topic for conversation with most people
