Should I Take Time Off From Work After Surgery?

I had the lapband on July 25th. I was off for about 3 weeks - just returning to work this week. I was really only planning to take off about 2 weeks because I was going to travel out of state the 3rd week but my doctors recommended that I not travel so far after the surgery just in case of any complications. Honestly, I am glad I had the time off. Realistically, after 1 week I was not able to do much of anything...eat, drink, sleep, sit up, etc. Talk with your doctor but at least give yourself a week (maybe more), if you can.
  2. Congratulations! You look great! :-) Thanks for the extra motivation to keep going.

    Anyone Getting Banded In July?

Had my post-op appointment today. Lost 13 pounds since surgery - YAY! Incisions healed well doctor said. On to the mushy/baby food consistency phase. I found out I have the Realize Band which my doctor said it is like the Adjustable Lapband - "It's like Coke and Pepsi, just different brands." However, the Realize band, even without fills, it gives some degree of restriction and it sits better on the stomach he said. It can hold up to 11cc. My 1st fill of about 3cc will be Sept 17th my doctor said. I'm trying my best to stick with the eating phases as I want to be successful with it. I'm on my way :-) All the best to everyone!

    Anyone Getting Banded In July?

Banded July 25th - little scary before surgery due to the natural narrowing of my throat so it was diffucult to get the tube in my throat and equally as difficult to get it out. But through it all, I'm still glad I did it. Spent 2 days in the hospital. Once home, it was difficult to take in liquids. It seemed like nothing tasted good or settled on my stomach, not even Water. I was experiencing nausea terribly that moved to painful gas. Finally, after 2 days, I took a few gas strips and walked around the grocery store to get good 'ole fashion chicken noodle Soup and ate the broth. Finally, I am experiencing relief! I felt like I could run :-) The gas has subsided and I can move around more comfortably. Now I feel like I can walk more as doctors suggested. I haven't had to take pain meds today so far and I'm doing pretty good. I'm tolerating liquids much better - Yeah LOL! Tips: Give yourself time to adjust - dont rush yourself. Some things may be too rich to take in (i.e., Protein shakes, cream soups) - you may need to dilute them a little. Gas pains will come but as many have said, moving and Gas X strips helped. Drink slowly!! Keep it up July banders and all the best to August banders!
