  1. Thanks ladies!!! My surgeon wants me to lose 25lbs before surgery and right now I'm down 8lbs since 7/2. I'm really trying hard and I pretty much went cold turkey with carbs.....I haven't been allowing myself very much since I saw my nutritionist last wed. I have to stay away from all the things I was eating because if I don't get that "taste" in my mouth then I don't get the craving for it (if that makes sense). I think a lot of it is that I'm not eating as much as I guess I could be and also I feel like I'm the only one that is changing and no matter how supportive my hubby is in my mind I feel like he's not doing enough because he's not "changing" too. So maybe I have to give myself more mental space/time to adjust to everything that's going on. I'm getting sleeved in September and most times I feel like I just wanna get this all over with so I can be in the "recovery" stage and move on with my life . Maybe it's just a pity party day!!! LOL
  2. I am about 5 days into my pre-op low carb high protein diet and I'm having a lot of issues......I am doing pretty well diet wise, I know I need to add in a protein shake or two and up my wAter intake. My issue is ever since I started it my attitude/anger has gone through the roof!!! Everything is making me snap and it's really making my life difficult and I am pushing my hubby away when all he has done up to this point is be supportive!! I am very frustrated. Anyone have any advice or experiencing this themselves??
  3. Am getting sleeved in October and was jut wondering what the post-op vitamins routine is.
  4. Ok so I saw my "NUT" on Wednesday and yesterday was the first day of my diet as I have to lose 25lbs before surgery in October. I did really well but it has like hell on earth!!!! She has me on low carb/high protein and I have to say I was like a monster yesterday!!! I am an EMT and I work 13hr shifts and all day I work yesterday I felt like I was going to bite someone because of the hunger I was feeling!!!! LOL Sorry....I just needed to vent!!! This pre-op diet sucks!!! I hope it will get better as my body gets used to this change. Anyone else experiencing this?
  5. You sound so much like me!! I am a pre-sleeve and an August baby (aug 23)!!! I am getting sleeved in october and I just want to tell you that your story is very inspiring to me.....so thanks!! I also was just wondering about your hair loss. I have very long and thick curly hair and am curious as to what's going to happen to it after surgery. Did yours fall out gradually or very quickly? Has it started to come back in yet? I am sorry for asking such personal questions but I love my hair and am very nervous about losing it!!! Congrats on your success...u look amazing girlie!!!
  6. Hi Mendy, Let me first say that I am so sorry for what your going through!! I am a Nurse/EMT and I can tell you that I am appalled and embarrassed of my colleagues that have done this to you!! If I were you I would go to your PCP's office and tell them you are not leaving until he gets you the required paperwork and/or mails/faxes it right in front of you!! Good luck and if you need any help please don't hesitate to contact me.
  7. Thanks guys! All of your input is very helpful! I'm just trying to picture what life is going to be like post-op. I only asked about corn because I love corn on the cob right off the BBQ. Other than beans, what do you do to get your protein? I see that many people drink protein shakes but I feel a little confused because I would think that the shakes are very filling and there is not much room after surgery. What is the avg amount of a shake that you are able to drink while still getting in adequate protein?
  8. I am a pre-op w/ 3 months to go. I just had a question for you post-ops out there. Are you able to eat corn? How about Beans and nuts? What foods have you had a problem eating? Thanks!!!
  9. I agree Mrsflyboybs, there are many people in EMS who are over weight. I also have made the excuse of "well I work EMS full time...I'm on the road full time...how can I eat healthy?" But, as I am taking it day by day, I have realized that that is just an excuse. I have to find motivation and have found it easier lately to put things back when I'm shopping instead of buying junk food. Audrey523: Good luck with your surgery!! I am out in Suffolk County and am having my surgery in october by Dr. Arif Ahmad in Port Jeff, NY at J.T. Mather Hospital.
  10. That's very true!! It does grow by the day. Something funny happened to me the other day.....I went into a "skinny store" where normally I have only bought shoes/accessories and I began to look around and think wow soon enough I will be able to shop here for clothes if I so choose. So, I figure that's just one more "why" to add to my list!!
  11. Thanks!! And congrats on your weight loss!!! I can't wait to be a "post-op"!! What has been your biggest challenge since you decided on surgery? What has been your biggest victory so far?
  12. Hi, I'm am about 3 months out and very nervous!!! I am 31, I'm from Long Island, NY, and I'm an EMT. I decided to have surgery for a few different reasons. First, I have struggled with my weight my entire life and I just can't do it anymore. I'm tired of my weight being the first thing people notice about me. It doesn't matter how nice I am, how good I am at my job, or how I carry myself. It's always there front and center. It's lucky for me though that I have always been a tough chick and I tend to let what others say or think about me roll off my back. However, I am my own worst critic. My second reason is because my uncle just passed from cancer. He was only 57 when he passed. He was a 9/11 WTC and became sick due to what he was exposed to that day. In a way, I feel that I am reclaiming his life for him and living the life he couldn't. I want to be happy because he fought everyday for one more breath and I don't want to waste one more of mine. My last reason for having WLS is because I am an EMT and everyday I see the end results of what not taking care of your health and your body does to you. I refuse to be a statistic. What's your story?
