  1. Hi, im 22 ive been diagnosed with barretts just a week before my surgery. The doctors sat me doen and scared the crap out of me with barretts is only seen in patiens 40 or over and since mine is progressing so fast they wont do anything but the rny which I was totally against. They kept repeating cancer and the treatments that I wouldnt be able to have if I have a sleeve and get the cancer. I also need a hernia repair amd have problems with gerd since I was a little kid. What should I do? Does anyone have barretts and hernia repair and still have good results with sleeve as far as acid reduction?? Guys im freaking out and need advice asap is the cancer scare really that serious with barretts esophagus? Sorry for the long post
  2. Ok so im sleeved since 7-11-12 Just a few days out and im feeling pretty good. My question is can u overdo sugarfree popsicles? Thats all I have besides water and a few spoonfuls of broth everyday but today I ate like 9 of them. Is that ok just at 4 days post op?? I could also drink water pretty fast but choose not to does anyone know if its ok to? I dont have any real hunger and the heat is killing me I just wanna jump in an ice cold pool and stay there forever, too bad I still have my staples at incision sites..sorry I'll stop ramblings plz help with advice on water and popsicle limits (portion or time between sips or popsicles)if there are any

    Why Am I Getting Worse?

My doc said a sip of water every 15 minutes, thats way too little so I drink 32-50 Oz of ice water every day so dehydration doesnt seem very likely, I am having trouble getting anything of nutritional value everything makes me so nauseous in the mornings I have crazy headaches and can barely walk of nausea my bloodwork came back ok when I was in the ER last Thursday.
  4. I was feeling great after surgery, even walking and getting fluids in easily. Two Weeks later and I take all day getting 1 8Oz protein shake in and constantly have nausea and headaches its been almost 2 Weeks since this started and doc says its the acid yet the nexium 2x seems to help it. Has anyone had this experience will it go away? I thought time was supposed to,make it better not worse I have no energy and only able to get 25-50 grams of protein daily. Im scared this is gonna be my new life im scared to even try mushies and im a month out this Thursday.
  5. I've read all the threads on leaks I could find but none of them confirm the symptoms I'm having. I look a little yellow in the face, I feel weak for more and more of the day as time passes and every morning I cant eat or drink anything without feeling crazy nauseous. I get a pain on the left side of exactly the middle of my back and sometimes my left side of abdomen but I thought that might be because thats where my big incision is. I tried for last 2 days to get in touch with my surgeon and tgey just keep telling me to wait for him to call. This is so frustrating, I used to be able to get all my liquids and protein in even a boiled egg, but now I'm scared to taste anything until evening time. What could be happening? I take my acid medication twice a day but it doesn't help maybe I need something stronger? Please tell me this cant be a leak im horrified and I'm only a 22 yr old guy and 19 days out of surgery. My initial recovery was great aside from obvious energy shifts and incision pain. This started 4 days ago and wont stop

    Please Not A Leak!

I tried pepcid and prevocid and prilosec my acid laughs at them like I toom nothing they gave me nexium rx today at er I hope it works better I'm just scared it wont because I have 3 failed attemps already even the doc said my acid kicked in early and is more severe than he normally sees. God will help me pull along though, thank you all for your concern and advice and yes im estatic its not a leak im just to nauseous and weak to show it

    Please Not A Leak!

I went to ER turns out its not a,leak It's just very severe reflux, they said they're not sure if it'll ever go away but hope it becomes more manageable with time.. im glad it's not a leak but what could I do with this acid its literally destroying everything im always nauseous and constantly weak like its eating me up Any sugestions would be appreciated because I cant live with it there's no way to just tough it out

    Please Not A Leak!

I saw my surgeon he checked my vitals and said even though he's very paranoid about leaks he doesn't think I have one. He said im drinking too much to fast based on,my pain description. He said to try and lower my intake and watch how fast I'm sipping and it should go aea. Problem is that I've had maybe 5 Oz of water today but my nausea is getting worse and my pain is increasing each time I sip. Im supposed to see him next Thursday again and he said if I still feel the same he'll order a leak test right away. I hate that all of a sudden I was doing ok while in the office but got worse just an hour after I left! This is so frustrating I was doing so good from day 4 I was able to get in over a liter of water and my protein also these hiccups are making things worse. I hate whining so I just tell my family everything is ok I feel ok. sorry this is so long I just need to vent somehow. Love u guys your so supportive, Upside is I lost 40 lbs in 3wks

    Possible Popsicle Overdose!

It was 8 Oz and he aparently gulped it way too fast then immediately chased it down with water thinking it'll ease the pain from what he just did and this was the second day home from surgery

    Possible Popsicle Overdose!

The only reason I even posted this is because my doc scared me with a story about someone who went home after surgery and gulped down a whole protein shake at once Then when his stomach hurt he chased it down with a big cup of water when he got to the hospital he found out that he blew most of his staple line and almost died. It sounded made up but why would a doctor lie about something like that happening to one of his patients?

    Possible Popsicle Overdose!

Idk why but purple is my fav too I hate cherry orange is ok I love the strawberry to. it is a funny question but im 4 days post op and the simple fact that I could already tolerate that much is amazing to me and im only 22 so being 370lbs at this age I know im capable of overdoing things Lol I dont feel anything but a little discomfort if I have 2 back to back popsicles and I walk that off in like a minute. Im not even taking pain meds this is a miracle to me because I thought I was a notoriously slow healer from past experience with gall bladder removal. Thanks for answers this forum is the best
  14. Im having surgery tomorrow and they called me today to let me know I thought someone was pranking me but its real.. Is it safe to have surgery with no preop diet at all? I actually gained a couple pounds in last month. My surgery was canceled cause they thought I have Barrett esophagus but when they double checked it was just inflammation so even though I spoke with them yesterday and they said I had no date yet they called back today and said to come tommorow for surgery. Anyone had an experience like this? Is this safe? My surgeon thinks its ok

    Dizzy/light Headed

How long post op are you? maybe thats the way your body is reacting to the extreme change in calorie intake.. Give a little more info
  16. I had surgery 7-11 and everything went great just 4 days out and I feel good only pain left is from big incision where they took out stomach so I am very greatful to God and my surgeon. I guess you really dont need a preop diet. I actually partied pretty hard 2 days before surgery not knowing my surgery will be so soon. I had 5 times the pain with gall bladder removal and I was on liquids 1 week before that because everything swallowed caused pain and recovery actually took like 3-4 Weeks house rest and had crazy gas pains that didnt go away for over a month and I was 130lbs lighter!! God has his ways of suprising us I guess
  17. So, I got sleeved. I was one of those terrified I would be in pain forever because thats what happened when my gall bladder was removed. I am probably one of the least energetic people on this board(maybe a couple hundred steps a day) But after the initial 1day drowsiness and second day awful hiccup attacks I awoke on day 3 feeling energetic and not wanting to sit or lay down I've Been walking every hour since(had surgery 7-11-12 7pm). The only thing still bothering me is the incision pain. Does anyone know of any way to soothe that? I really cant get any sleep because of it and its killing my back and left side. So far even pain meds only get me about an hour of sleep..I am thankful this is my only problem but eould apreciate some.advice
  18. Thank you guys so much, reading these post has officially put me at ease. What kind of doc just lets asu call you at 5pm and tell you to come into surgery the next day and then u cant call the office cause noone is there anymore.. Talk about suprises, luckily this is a good one
  19. I did another endoscopy and the doc that did it said it looks like inflamation, NOT BARRETTS So now im so phsyched, I thought I would get bad news but I didnt. Thank God and thanks to all of you that supported me with your experiences and answers during a very confusing and emotional time. This community really is a blessing.
  20. @#shortypants Which cancers and how did you treat them? Im so sorry you have to go through all that my father almost had a heart attack when he found out what my docs were saying about the barretts he drank and cried all night last night. I couldnt imagine my family being strong enough to actually encourage me, they would be to hurt themselves to be able to support me with words i'm the one conbincing them everything will be ok,,,but man does this life throw sh!!t at us
  21. I really apreciate your answers but do you guys think I should listen to surgeons and do the rny? They say that'll completly heal the acid problem so theres a way lower chance of barretts evolving further.. Damn why do I always have to be that one in a million, everything I have is always way to early for my age or completely unpredictable im so depressed and tired of getting all this bad news. Im doing another endoscopy in 2 wks and I can't make myself believe this is just gonna be a scare that turns out to be nothing :-(

    Major Plateau!

Have you been excersizing? Forget calories replace 2 meals with proteins shakes or shots and one light meal at dinner its quality over quantity and counting calories will just tempt you to eat bad calories so look on your plate and you can easily judge whats good or bad.....even though we act like we dont sometimes. I myself have lost 150lbs Without surgery.....then gained it back 4 years later due to depression,so ive been thru every diet on this big green and blue ball And I wish you the best of luck on getting out of this plateu
  23. My date is July 2 just a few days And i'll be on the other side of this journey. Im nervous scared as hell but not admitting it to anyone in my family and keep having the doctors anouncement of death being in the risk im taking. Im going thru your feelings exactly, im only 22 and docs keep pushing me towards rny but im standing my ground and acting like i'm cool ad the other side of the pillow so get your game face on and walk tall towards the beginning of your brand new life
