  1. It's nearly 3am and I'm up … nearly 1 day post-op … feeling good! Gas up in the left shoulder/neck area … some soreness around my middle, but the girdle they wrapped around me is offering a lot of support. Walking around helps, a good burp never felt so good! LOL! I have been taking my pain meds and following all of doc's orders … walking around, doing that breathing thing, using my pillow to get out a good cough, and so far I have gotten down a half cup of Soup, Water, tea, about a half cup of Protein Shake, and a grape sugar-free popsicle. Yum! Thank God all has gone well … I think once this gas pain is gone I will feel much, much better! How is everyone else doing?? Congrats to everyone getting banded today!!! I will be sending prayers your way!
  2. Thank you, Desoto! I'm feeling better then I thought I would. Doc said I could have anything I want to eat that is liquid and fits through a straw. So far, so good! I appreciate your well wishes!!
  3. I'm home!!! Very sleepy, minor pain, they have a belly band (like a girdle) around my tummy … offers some additional support and security. Apparently my bladder is still sleeping, but i am tolerating ice water very well and even had a little apple juice in recovery. Some gas pain, too … I had a hernia so they fixed that and the doc explained that they puffed me up w/ additional gas. Sooooooo just thought I'd check in … going back to sleep now!!
  4. Tomorrow will be here before I know it … my nerves are starting to tingle and I'm getting a nervous knot in my tummy. I lost 20 pounds w/ pre-op dieting and feel this helped to ready my mind and body for what is to come. Still, I'm feeling on edge and trying to hide it from my family so they don't worry. Once I wake up and hear the 'everything went great' bit, I will feel better … until then, I am a ball of nerves. I am excited for this and I believe whole heartedly that this is the best gift I can give myself … the gift of knowing I will be healthy, not obese … the gift of looking in the mirror and feeling proud of the girl smiling back at me, rather then disappointed …. Reading everyone's post-op stories have been very helpful! I look forward to having my own …
  5. I'm sure they're going to reschedule you .... I can't imagine how frustrating and nerve-racking this must be ... hang in there!
  6. I was nervous about the pre-op, too ... I actually pushed myself and started it earlier then when my doc wanted me to because I was afraid of messing up! I used the first week of pre-op to test out diff. shakes and routines. If I learned anything, it is that I can do this ... that my focus is tight and that I have to trust my body is 'full' of nutrition, even when I wish it was 'full' of my favorite foods. Here I am now, 1 day left before surgery and I'm down 20 pounds! I don't know how typical that is or not, but pre-op went from being a fear and hesitation, to an accomplishment and motivation.
  7. LOL!!! Ok, that kinda grossed me out and made me laugh all at the same time! Thanks for the giggle, Mike!
  8. .... ok ... 24 hours to go ... feeling very nervous and emotional ... never felt like this before and I have had many diff. types of surgeries. Why this? Why now? I've been planning and waiting for this since June! Now, I'm getting nervous and anxious? Reading everyone's post-op posts make me feel better so please keep the good news and vibes coming!
  9. Hey everyone! I had some catching up to do! Wow! Everyone is doing so good ...that is awesome! Surgery is Tuesday and the oddest thing happens now when I think about it ... my eyes get all teary and I get a bit weepy. Ummm ... why? LOL! I guess the reality is setting in and I am excited ... not so much nervous ... especially after I read how all the other post-op-peeps are doing. Glad to hear everyone doing well! You all make is sound easy and I pray it's that way on Tuesday. Go in ... sleep ... wake up banded! I'm on day 20 of pre-op ... yes, you read that right ... I've been doing the liquid thing (with only 3 'real' meals in total during this time) and I am down 19 pounds as of today. My goal was 20 pounds and I have feeling I just may get there by Tuesday morning! Yeah!
  10. I enjoyed my Thanksgiving and started my pre-op a few days later. Whenever I think of all the things (foods) I will miss this Christmas, I think about the cute little red dress I am going to wear NEXT year for Christmas! Also, if I cannot handle myself w/ the holidays and make better choices w/ food, no matter what the time of year it is, then the band won't work ... so the choice to be banded is the choice to make those changes. The whole 'getting through the holidays' bit is about perspective and I say THREE CHEERS for us doing this now ... Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and no doubt a very Happy New Year to all of us! Just imagine what 2013 will bring for us .... !
  11. At the hospital for my final round of pre-op tests! Surgery a week from today. Starting to get nervous... little fears and anxieties sneaking in... Ugh!!! On a good note, I'm down 18 pounds with the pre-op diet! Pretty sure I can hit 20 pounds lost before next week...a good start I'd say!! How is everyone else doing?
  12. Day 14 of the pre-op diet and 15 pounds down!!!! Seeing those numbers go down make this pre-op phase a bit easier … another week and 2 days to go! How are all the newly banded doing this weekend??
  13. CORRECTION: 3 weeks … not 2 weeks … by time I go to the dinner I will have been on my pre-op diet for 3 weeks!
  14. Welcome to all newbies!!! How are all the newly banded ladies doing this morning? Day 13 of the pre-op diet … 11 days to go! Here is my problem … and question …. The Assistant Superintendent invites a small group of us out dinner just before Christmas each year. Our dinner will be on the 11th … a week before surgery. I have done VERY well thus far, down 13 pounds … shakes, water, tea, sugar-free popsicles …. will one carefully planned, light, and chosen meal be a bad idea? Even after the dinner there is a week before surgery … some folks only have a 2-3 day pre-diet … by time this dinner comes I will have been on it for more than two weeks! I am thinking a piece of broiled fish, salad with oil and vinegar, and a steamed veggie instead of rice or a potato. No wine, just water or unsweetened ice tea. No bread either. Thoughts???
  15. You are so right! I have had numerous surgeries, but never have I heard such a fuss about blood clots until now. Ugh! I plan on getting up and walking every hour … I already warned my husband NOT to baby me … let me walk around!!! They also said that while sitting, our fee should be reclined … soooo then he can baby me!! Oh and I told him that LOTS of foot massages would be helpful, too!!! Hahah!!!!
  16. YEAH!!! So excited for you girls!!! The rest of us are not far behind you … pave the way girls … this is the BEST gift we could give ourselves … health, happiness, and a fantastic new wardrobe for 2013!! Woot!!!!
  17. As I sit here reading all of these posts I can't help but feel really excited for all of us! We're really doing it … it's here … this is OUR month! I don't feel very nervous, but more excited then anything! After surgery I'll be a little nervous while things adjust, but I will stalk this page so I can put my mind at rest with reading all the post-op adventures!
  18. Down 13 pounds on pre-op! Less than 2 weeks to go! The protein shakes from the doc are pretty good, but a bit on the thick side. I had to attend a pre-op class yesterday and they talked all about preventing blood clots. Did anyone else got this?
  19. Went for my pre-op group meeting … looks like my pre-op diet will be a bit diff. the next 2 weeks. Conflicting information. Ugh! On the bright side … two weeks from today I shall be banded!!! Woot!!!
  20. It's odd how we're all told different things. I was told to be on 'full liquids' w/ my Protein Shakes from the doctor as my pre-op diet. He said to start 2-3 weeks pre-op and I decided to bite the bullet and do the 3 weeks. Tomorrow will be the start of week 2 and I am down 11 pounds! In a week!! I know it's mostly bloaty Water and toxins …but I do feel better and my clothes are not as tight or snug today as they were last weekend! Anyhoo …. the pre-op diet would be the same type of diet I would be on post-op, too, so I may as well get use to it beforehand and lose some weight (shrink my liver) before surgery. It was my understanding that as long as it can 'fit through a straw' + low/no sugar + non-carbonated + low fat + nonalcoholic = I can have it! Having Soups this time of year is great … I made a Cream of Avocado the other night and it was awesome!!
  21. This is awesome!!! Inspiring! I started at 230, size 20, 1-2X … I can't wait to slide into a pair of 'skinny jeans' and the whole sleep apnea thing came at me as a total shock w/ pre-op testing! I am trying to lose as much as possible w/ pre-op so that post-op will be easier (or so I am told). I look forward to getting back on track w/ 'normal' foods, but with a 'new-normal' approach to how and what I eat. I hear a lot of mixed words about soda. I have never been much of a soda drinker, but every now and then I like a Diet Coke or Ginger Ale … some threads and doctors and nutritionalists say NEVER AGAIN … but then others say, once we're past week 6, a little bit every now and then is ok … as long as it is diet and we don't over do it. What is everyone else hearing? Thanks again for the post … your words are encouraging!!! C'mon December 18th … !!! Yeah!!!
  22. Wow! This looks awesome … gives me something to look forward to once I reach that stage! Please let us know how it tastes and if you found any other modifications were needed.
  23. Success!!! I posted my Cream of Avocado soup recipe on my blog! If anyone tries it out let me know what you think! I drizzled a little bit of low-fat sour cream on top and it added an additional light and creamy flavor. Yum!
  24. I had heard 1-2 pounds a week is expected and/or about 10 pounds per month … so either way you are right on target!
  25. I am betting banded on 12/18 … I told my hubby that if I get all 95 pounds off by next Christmas I want new boobies! LOL!! I don't know how much excess skin I'll have, but I am pretty sure my 42Ds will shrink and sag. Thank goodness for all these options! I think talking to surgeons once you are within 10 pounds of your goal would help to motivate that final loss of 10 pounds.
