  1. I can't say I disagree, I would recomend that anybody having surgery in Mexico get a NUT close to home that is familiar with WLS & the bodies needs afterward. I am a Ponce patient & I am very happy with my results, but I pretty much have created my own diet plan using his diet sheets as a guide and experimenting with other things. I was very concerned about protien because I was a wrestler earlier in life & I wanted to preserve as much muscle mass as I could
  2. The funny thing is see here is, all this equipment that is supposed to be state of the art, is in pretty much every hole in the wall surgical facility in Mexico. I will not argue, Dr Aceves is without doubt one of the 2 top choices in Mexico, the other being Dr Alvarez @ Endobariatric. I was personally sleeved by Dr Ponce de leon. From the day I left the int hospital, I haven't had a single medication (excluding stool softeners), haven't had a single complication, or even a moment of regret. I'm happy to say, the you get what you pay for mindset just doesn't hold true here. If paying 40% more makes you feel like you had a better experience, then I am happy for you. But to suggest that someone that has scrimped & saved to get the money to self pay for a good qualified surgeon (ponce, Kelly, Garcia) should go into debt so they can go to your doctor, is reprehensible. I personal could have gone to any doctor I wanted to and just written a check for it (yes including the 60K surgery in NJ), and I seriously considered both Almanza & Alvarez, however the more actual research I did the more I found that Kelly's & Ponce's credentials & patient satisfaction rates were equally impressive. The only thing they didn't have was the extra $3250 in their fee. The deciding factor between Kelly & Ponce, for me was Trish, since Kelly had just recently stopped using coordinators, and Trish was now with Dr Ponce exclusively. I don't advocate debt, I believe it is a cancer on our society. There is a line somewhere that says "the borrower is slave to the lender". I simply don't see why anyone would sign up to be someone else's slave. If you have the money, and it makes you feel better to write an 8750dollar check than one for 5500, then I'm happy for you. But don't for a minute believe that just because you spent more money that you got better results.
  3. Innerme, the best I can tell is you were 211lbs SW? You have a GW of 140 which will bring you to a BMI of 22.59. The unfortunate reality is, with 71lbs to lose, you simply are not going to see those massive numbers you've come accustom to reading from higher BMI patients. You are doing fine. Today marks 3weeks fron your surgury, and you've averaged over 2lb per week. I definitely understand your frustration, but as the 12 steppers say, "it works if you work it " Just keep following your diet, exercise, & try to keep a positive mindset. I'm willing to bet money that at your nine month mark you will eithe be at goal or so close to it.
  4. Wow, that has got to be the most stringent pre-op I've seen. Mine consisted of 2 days of liquids & yogurt, then nothing at all 6hrs before surgery.
  5. It's a type of corn, usually large and white in color. If you crush hominy it makes grits.
  6. Failure is not the act of falling, failure only occurs when you choose not to get back up.
  7. Great, now I gotta go to Wisconsin & get some cheese curds.
  8. Admittedly I'm not really familiar with the protien shot, but I have read here in the forum that many if not all of them use collagen as the source of protien, and are not usable by our bodies. Whether or not this is actually the case, I don't know, but if you are using them as a protien source you may want to check into it.
  9. Whoo hooo!!! does this mean I'll a finally be able to grow a decent beard now?
  10. Well, as I'm sure you already know the fresh cheeses taste better. Are they available fresh in low fat varieties near you?
  11. I could email you a video of my surgery:D
  12. My response is dependent on who is asking. Most people I simply say, I'm following the diet they give to patients after WLS (which is 100% true). Close friends & family I tell only if they ask. Other than that I have a don't ask don't tell policy.
  13. Absolutely. Nothing is "off limits" forever.
  14. Nothing special, no tricks or anything, just stuff like isopure clear protien drinks, Unjury chicken soup, mixing unflavored protien into jello and such.
  15. I guess it's time for me to get more hate mail. First off, men are very visual, we are turned on by what we see. If you were thinner and in better shape and more confident when you met him, you can bet that he found that version of you attractive. If as you gained weight, his affections dwindled, as did your confidence, well, the blunt reality is that his physical attraction likely decreased as your weight increased. I know this sounds horrible, but it's a man thing, it's just the way we are. We can't fake a physical relationship. The fact that he has stayed by you through all of this is testimony that he loves you. It's just the brutal reality of being a man, we can't pretend to be sexually attracted to someone. So when he starts flirting with you more, maybe even gets a little jealous, take it as a compliment We can say anything you want to hear, and believe me we know what you want to hear. But the way he treats you is is his real tribute to your success
  16. Everything I've seen points to protien deficiency. Unfortunately, while in the clear stage the #1 goal is hydration and very few ppl consume enough protien to meet their needs. I was very persistent on getting protien in even going as far as breaking a few rules. I can say, my weight loss has been slower than some, but I'm 46 days post-op and haven't experienced a stall or hair loss yet. I also feel I should add I have learned a few things from this forum, that I now believe I could have done this within the boundaries of the diet plan that was given.
  17. I'm so glad that I am cheap! Seriously, I think that, in it self has helped me in this process. I never was willing to spend 5dollars+ on popcorn. And now when I go into a restaurant all I can think of is "Am I really gonna spend 10-15 on a meal when 1/2 will end up in the trash, & 2/3 of the other half will be leftovers?" Who would have thought that being frugal would make getting healthy easier??
  18. Congrats' date=' you're so close. Who says you can't meet your goal, evaluate, then deside to set another goal?
  19. Unjury, Syntrax Nectar, & premier are the most recommended around these parts.
