Hey fellow OctoSleevers!! Feeling great today! Wearing closed-toe shoes & longer sleeves this week (cooler weather) has been a little depressing but today I had a pick-me-up that was good for my soul: I had an admirer in high school with whom I've chatted on Facebook for several years now. He called me out of the blue this morning & asked me to lunch. He was driving through the state on the way to the beach & wanted to see me. Of course I was thinking: "Aggh! I haven't had my surgery yet!" (Last time he saw me in person was 24 years ago and I weighed 120 lbs less than I do now). But I think I carried my self-esteem fairly well for the lunch hour. He was such a gentleman: he opened all doors for me & paid for the lunch. I <3 Facebook!

Interesting... I'd think they'd be concerned about a reaction considering your natural defenses are down after the surgery. Guess not! :-)

Mine is first on a Monday, too. I had planned to follow the general "warnings" (old wives tales?) about not scheduling surgeries for Monday mornings or Fridays so I was skeptical - until Tammy told me that she MADE SURE her surgery was his first on a Monday. That changed my mind about old wives tales! I agree that I would have been a bundle of nerves if I had to wait part of the day before going in. I'm already not going to be able to sleep the night before! Denise said taking a Benadryl the night before to get some sleep "is usually safe". Not sure if I'm going to try that, though. I've never been "put under" so I'm not taking any chances on mixing sleep meds. Did Dr.H suggest getting a flu shot 2 weeks prior to surgery? My PCP suggested it but Denise was skeptical since I haven't had one in the past several years & don't know if I'll have a reaction to it.

LOL - I answered my own question by searching more. I found a neat (free!) one in Apple's App Store called "Timer" by App Cubby. It's very simple but it does exactly what I need it to. Although I can't set a RECURRING alarm, it will count up from the alarm time so you know how much time has elapsed since the alarm so you can reset as needed. And you can set up to 12 alarms & they are all customizable.

Has anyone come across a good "timer" app that can be set to go off every 15 minutes & also every 3 hours to remind us to drink our water & eat our meals? I've found a couple but they have to be re-set each time.

I totally get that! Adding more names every day helps to keep me distracted & not so focused on why I'm actually on this message board!!! Had my "workshop" today via telephone & heard all about what to expect before, during, & after surgery (but they failed to remind us to clean out our belly buttons...). My parents attended the workshop in person & having them involved is what's making it more real for me!! I'm like: "Whoa, what? What am I thinking of doing???" But then I quickly remember all the reasons I made this decision :-)

Has anyone been told to get a flu shot before the surgery? My PCP said I should get one at least 2 weeks before surgery. Said hospitals are full of sick people & I'll be vulnerable having just had surgery... Just curious to know if anyone else had heard this advice.
