    August Roll Call

I am so excited! Thursday I get to start semi-soft foods. I am 1 week post-op and down 28 pounds. I found out I was way low on protein and that's why I was feeling so bad. On the Kashi.com site there is a protein calculator and getting close to that number will make you feel 100% better. Also get enough calories. My doctor said about 1200 and getting close to that helped also. I also recommend Protein Shots. 4 ounces and 42g of whey protein. Watermelon is my favorite. WalMart carries them here. My only down side is my bowels are messed up. When I have to go its like urgent and it's liquid(sorry for being gross) I hope this passes as food gets incorporated. Still loving the band!
  2. Wow, I am 3 days Post Op and I feel great. I am really amazed that I have had very few of the issues that some are reporting. The day of surgery I was a little sore. Day 2 I felt like someone had punched me in the stomach but no worse than that. I also went out for a walk. Today the only residual pain I have is from one of the surgery slits and that just feels like a typical cut. I am very happy with my early surgery results. I am down 20 pounds thanks to the Pre-Op diet. (I started at 335 and the day of surgery I was 315.) I am looking forward to my first follow-up with my doctor and look forward to the fill process. As for Post-Op drinks and such I haven't had any issues keeping things down or getting my Protein shakes down. I am looking forward to mushy foods... Bring it on! Much success to everyone on this journey.

Surgery tomorrow morning (8/30) at 7:30am. Really excited but working today on my clear liquid only Pre-Op has really kicked my back-side. See ya'all on the other side!!!

    August Roll Call

I have just finished my last Pre-Op appointment and I am 3 days into my Pre-Op diet and surgery is scheduled for Aug 30 at 7am. I am so excited. Funny thing is my blood sugars are awesome on this diet and I feel better already than I have felt for over a year. I am looking forward to the day I can pump my insulin pump away and so many other things.
  7. I am really frustrated. It seems like everytime I clear a hurdle toward getting a surgery date something changes. Today I found out my insurance invalidated my 6 months of Pre-Op diet and weight ins with my doctor because I met with the office Physician Assistant once when my doctor wasnt available. They are now requiring a new 6 consecutive months of doctor visits and weight-ins to be eligible. 6 more co-pays, 2 more sets of 90 day mail-in rx's. Drives me nuts that co-pays don't go toward deductable or there would be some saving grace. For someone who is diabetic has a BMI of 43 has sleep apnea and HBP I would think the insurance company would be happy at the prospect of getting me off their spending ledger. Sorry for the vent but I knew you guys would get it.

    Freaking Out

I think it is interesting. I never use to think about food until I started learning about the band and I realized how much my life revolves around food. I am still per-op and working through all the insurance fun stuff. The more I read the more I realized I was on my Yelp app everyday looking for a new food place and weekends were based around new breakfast places and such. I have really started to rein that back in. Regardless of the surgery I can see that isn't healthy. I am a type 2 diabetic and my blood sugars are well controlled but I take a lot of insulin and as a result I have gained a lot of weight. I am looking forward to the band as a tool to further help me gain control over my life and health. I love new foods and I still plan on being adventurous, just in smaller portions.
