    Food Portions Questions.

See, here's my deal. Dolly says she was told to eat 3oz of protein PLUS a half cup of veggies/fruit PER MEAL. At over 7cc filled on a 10 or 11 size band, our stomachs cannot hold that much. No way!!! Also, as a former professional dieter, the 3oz protein rule is for the unbanded person. I just don't understand how these nutritionists and doctors can tell people that. The truth is that no specifics have ever been set up for the banded patient. It's wrong, but we are kind of left to find our own way. I make sure I have bloodwork done every quarter to check my nutrition levels. That is the only way to tell what your body needs more of and also the best way. I have been low on protein at times and low on Potassium and others. I have to add supplements and find creative ways to get my body what it needs. It really is a personal journey. Just you, your body and your band. I eat real food. I dont eat diet foods, low fat, this or that. I don't eat frozen meals or processed food. If a food has more than five ingredients or has ingredients I cannot pronounce, I don't eat it. I EAT REAL BUTTER!! LOL. My body gets such little food that I can't be bothered with putting the laboratory created food in it. The body was not intended to deal with laboratory foods. It really doesn't know what to do with them so it storesMy band tells me when I have had enough and I leave it at that. Everything I do probably flys in the face of what most are doing and recommending. It's your jouney and you have to work out alot of the details with the help of your band and bloodwork.

    Port Location

Mine is on the right, five inches under the breast, which is at the stomach level. I had the laproscopy six years ago to place my band. You might have it somewhere else. I can feel the rectangular box that contains my port, no problem.

    Food Portions Questions.

Sorry, I forgot to tell you that I used to ask the questions you are asking. I was never able to get amounts from any of the three doctors I have asked. Not even the nutritionists can tell you. I told them, I have a stomach pouch the size of an egg, how much of that egg should be filled with the each different food group, per meal. One mouthful or teaspoon, two mouthfulls ect. No answer, all they could answer me with was what an unbanded person should be eating. Well, that was just so much stupid that I quit asking. My son has about the same size pouch I do and the rule for a young child is about 1 teaspoon of each at every meal. However, a lapband nutritionist will not put themselves out there to give that kind of detail. If you are a lapband doctor's nutritionist, shouldn't your recommendations be geared towards the banded? LOL, I mean REALLY. IF you find out, let me know.

    Food Portions Questions.

Hi I see you are at 7.75cc total. Given that, I would say that you should not be eating much of anything LOL. I've been banded for 6 years, so I guess I am kind of an old foggie stogie now in LapBand Land. I do not worry about carbs, fats, calories, all that "dieter stuff". I just don't. I eat my Protein first and then vegetables or fruit. Protein is most important because it helps keep and build muscle and without that, you cannot burn fat. I eat a piece of raisin cinnamon toast and an egg or a Nestle instant Breakfast drink in the morning and I take my chewable Vitamins X 2 that I get at costco (the Kirkland brand). For lunch, which is a meal I usually have trouble getting down, I may have a little of a leftover from the night before or a salad. For dinner, I try to eat whatever everyone else is eating and the meat goes down first. I like to drink V-8 or fusion drinks to make sure I get my fruits and veggies. 64 ounces of liquid per day is about what I do. If I spent all of my time counting everything that went into my mouth, it would pull me back into that success/failure rollercoaster that I was on before I was banded. The rules have changed since I was banded in 2006, but one thing has not~~I cannot eat enough of anything to hurt me when my band is tightened, so why waste your life counting everything. I have lost over 100 pounds, had a child, gotten rid of my Type 2 Diabetes and all this has happened since I was banded. My band and I are quite close. My recommendation to you would be to just relax and let the band do it's job, which is, to stop you from overeating. Your job is to take your vitamins, eat your protein and fruits and veggies any way you can tolerate them~~~juice, fresh, whatever. RELAX and it will happen!!!

    Any Regrets?

I too was Type 2 before banding and it didn't take long before I was not!! I am now 6 years post op and whenever I start putting on weight I just have it tightened back down. The biggest joy I have found with the band is that I am DIET FREE!!! I just laugh at work when the girls start talking about the diets they are on or how they have to watch EVERYTHING they put in their mouths. LOL, I never have to think about that because I can't eat enough of anything to hurt me LOL. And, I don't worry about overeating ANYMORE!!! The band has given me peace of mind. Before banding I had a portion control problem~~~I ate everything and if it was really good I ate as much as I could hold. Now, there are no more portion control problems. Also, it's kinda funny, but all those buffet restaurants don't mean much to me anymore LOL. It's a waste of money for me to go to an all you can hold till you explode restaurant because I will just explode if I eat more than a 1/2 cup of food LOLOL. GET IT DONE FOR YOU, FOR YOUR ENERGY AND STAMINA, FOR YOUR MEDICAL CONDITIONS AND FOR YOUR PEACE OF MIND!!!!! I don't think you will ever be sorry, I am NOT

    I Think I'm A Lap-Band Failure!!

Hi, I'm 6 years post op. Been having my band tightened back down for the last couple months. This is why we have the band. We can always have it tightened back down if we start to put on weight. It really sounds to me like your band is too tight or you have an existing slip or blockage, but call your doctor and let him know what's going on. I don't think you can get enough food down to keep your body going. It could go away in a few days to a week, but I would call your doc just in case he wants to have it looked at. Before I started having my band tightened down again they found a slip. The slip had been there for years and I had been living with it and not knowing it because I was not dieting. They had to fix that before I could start tightening it down again. You might need a barrium swallow test to see what's going on. I would, just for my own peace of mind. That is the best advice I can give with the information you provided We have to take care of these little bands because they mean the world to us and it's not worth losing it to stay uninformed!
