  1. Lacie, I am also having surgery on the 17th. Good luck!! We'll be facing surgery and the post-op life at the same time.
  2. Okay, my surgery is January 17th. I am not a prude at all, but I'm really uncomfortable with the idea of a catheter being put in. It just feels like being violated....I know its a doctor and all...and its normal and to them its like an elbow...but to me...that's the only part I'm really nervous about. Can anyone provide some help here with how to handle this part? I talked to the doc's assistant and i don't really have an option.
  3. I'm totally not a prude..but I'm really uncomfortable with anyone in that 'area' that I have not...well...invited. That is the part I just doooon't want. I feel violated already. How do i get over that?? My surgery is Jan 17th and that's really the only thing I am nervous about.
  4. I am scheduled for January 17th as well. I am excited, although I must admit, I THINK I am eating better, but I'm not dropping any weight. I suppose I should get my butt on the treadmill (since its sitting in my den.) And I do have a bit of the food funerals/last supper from time to time, but my husband (6'3 and never a fat day in his life..darn him) is on board with eating healthier, so we started changing our diet a few months ago. I had this horrible thought yesterday that terrified me. That I will wake up with my jaw wired shut or something. That scares me a lot!! Being confined like that. I know its just a random thought..but still made me nervous. That was the first time I got nervous about the surgery. I completely trust my surgeon..so nothing to worry about there. Just writing on here is making me motivated to start getting my butt into motion. I actually just read something someone posted on another topic, that every pound lost before surgery is one that will NEVER come back. Does anyone else have that thought in the back of their mind though "Well, I'm gonna drop all the weight then anyway, so why should I torture myself now?" These are only momentary thoughts (that tend to appear when faced with exercising when I'm already exhausted from the day.) Good luck January sleevers!!! We're in it to win it!!
  5. I am cleared and got approval from the insurance company and now just have to go in to my surgeons office and actually set the date (thinking January.) I'm nervous after reading some of the comments here...especially about hair loss. I didn't even know that was something that would happen. Does this happen to everyone or just some people? Saggy skin I was prepared for (well sorta) but i'm starting to get nervous about what other post-op surprises I am in for. I haven't had to diet too much (mostly making better choices and eating smaller portions) because I am just above the threshold for meeting insurance approval. I have a feeling I'm in for a rude awakening. I'm pretty sure I won't chicken out...I can't really afford to given how high my cholesteral is, but I'm just nervous about the "aftermath." Encouragement is certainely welcome!! And anything I should know before I go into this (that the doc will just not tell me about? Like hair loss...)
  6. I am getting this done in January and have been going through the process with Dr. Trivedi at St. Peters (Albany, NY). He was recruited by the hospital to start a bariatric unit and has great success rates. I did my research ahead of time and this was the best doctor in the area.
