  1. Dr. curry's dietician said to make sure the Isopure zero carb ones are really cold--they taste better that way. I also bought the unjury chocolate and vanilla Protein shakes--I'm not being banded until 5/7 but I bought some things ahead. On the unjury site there is also a book you can buy called "Weight Loss for Dummies" and the Unjury shakes are recommended in there with recipes. good luck! Amy
  2. Oh, Crapola!!! I just bought 2 cases of that stuff off of GNC--it was buy 1 get one 1/2 off--the dietician from Dr. C's site said just to make sure it was REALLY cold--I figured I'd put it in the freezer like an hour before I was going to drink half of it! pffttt....I hope I can stomach it--I'm getting things ready for my post-op liquid diet and wanted to make sure i was getting enough protein! Amy
  3. You can order whey Protein powder--it's tasteless--and mix it into oatmeal or yogurt. The amount of protein in it is: 17 grams per serving. here is the link to where I saw it: http://thebanddoctorestore.com/?pagename=DisplayProducts&category=Protein%20Supplements Hope that helps! It's Dr. Curry's site! Amy
  4. Thank you! I printed out a lot of information and have started reading through it and making notes so I have a good idea of what to ask him! I appreciate you taking the time to answer! Amy
  5. Wow--it might take me all night to read through all the responses! :faint:
  6. I already attended my seminar, already had my pulmonary consult done and sleep study done, now for my initial appointment with him. What should I expect? How long before I find out my surgery date? I am self-pay so I don't have to wait for insurance approval! I have so many questions running through my head, I hope I don't forget them! What are the most important things to find out? TIA Amy
  7. I've read on lapband.com that some people don't lose during this period of time because you might not be restricted until you get a fill. this is a time for you to heal inside--don't get discouraged! I bet once you get your first fill you will start to see a significant weight loss!
  8. Good Luck!!! Let us know how you're doing!
  9. It just kind-of annoys me, kwim? I posted about this after getting back from my first seminar. as a self-pay patient I don't have to have a nutritional eval, cardiology eval. OR a psych eval, but I do have to have a Pulmonary eval. to me, that is senseless, I would have thought out of ANY of that a cardiology appt. would have been more necessary. I don't have any pulmonary history and I doubt almost 99.99999% that I have sleep apnea. I had a laproscopic repair of a hernia done 2 years ago and the ONLY thing I had to have done was an H/H--so when i talked to his nurse yesterday I asked her WHY I needed a Pulm. consult for clearance when I didn't have it done with my hernia repair--she said "Oh, this is different, they need to see if you have sleep apnea, if the doctor doesn't think you do, he'll just send over the letter saying you're cleared..." :guess okkkk.....I don't know, whatever--I have my pulmonary appt. on Monday so I'll get that out of the way, then my surgeon appt. on the 20th, then I'll have to schedule my bariatric class appt. right before the surgery. I can't imagine having to do more than that for insurance requirements! wow!
  10. thank you! I was kinda hoping i wouldn't even need a pulm. clearance but at least I know there's a chance I won't have to have a sleep study!
  11. What are some of the testing done for this? I have no history of any pulmonary issues, no smoking, no history of sleep apnea, etc--will I *have* to have a sleep study? I've heard of many physicians requiring a sleep study for a bmi over 45, mine is 39.1 . I am self-pay so no insurance requirements--has anyone been cleared pulmonary-wise without a bunch of unnecessary testing? TIA!
  12. Congratulations on your banding date. I'm hoping to have an early April date also. I don't see the surgeon until March 20th so hopefull I'll get in soon after! This site has been a wonderful source of information for me!
  13. Congratulations!!! Continued easy healing vibes!
  14. :clap2: I'm from Pittsburgh! I'm seeing Dr. Colella at AGH. Went to my seminar last week and have my first surgeon appt. on March 20! Wow, how far away is that!
  15. I think I saw Blue bunny stuff in Walmart--is that where you had luck? I know that during my Weight Watchers days, blue bunny ice cream was supposed to be the 'bomb', but I don't know! Keep us posted During my seminar, the nurse said that my surgeon does clears for 2 weeks, unless I drink clear Liquid Protein drinks, how will I get my allotment of protein, kwim? I'm sure that whenever I'm allowed to start eating with my teeth :heh: I'll be able to see what Proteins to consume, but I'm worried about getting enough protein in my first phase. It's a whole new way of eating for everyone and I'm really going to have to write everything down to make sure I"m doing exactly what I'm supposed to!
  16. I bet you're so excited about your surgery. check in and let us know how you're doing!!!!!:clap2:
  17. Ashley how wonderful!!! You must be on cloud 9! during your liquid phase, did you drink clear protein mixes? I'm wondering that would be something to keep up my protein and help with hunger post op. So, what did your first grocery shopping list look like? 3 stores to find it all? ay yi yi! Ok, you have to tell us so that maybe we'll be able to get it without having to visit every store in our city! LOL!
  18. Best of luck!!! Easy healing vibes for you!
  19. Congratulations on your date!!! Hooray for you!
  20. Glad you're doing well and now I'll know to NOT eat hot dogs!!!!

I haven't gotten it done yet, just spoke with the doctor's office and financial lady. This is at AGH, in Pittsburgh, Dr. colella, head of bariatric surgery there. When she told me the price I was astonished and asked her what the hidden costs were--here is the breakdown she gave me: the Band/port/4 adjustments: $4346 Physicians fee: $2310 Hospital fee:$3000 Anesthesia: $950 She also said that if there were any problems and I had to stay in the hospital that my costs would be discounted 50%. They take cash/check/charge. :clap2:
  22. Ashley--your latest post on your blog is too funny! I'm now going to make sure than whenever my surgery date is, I'll have an appointment to have my brows waxed and my feet done the day before!!! LMBO!!! Let us know whenver you're ready to sky dive! :>

I was quoted a price of $10,600--this includes 4 fills. any fills after that will cost $150 each. I was pretty excited about this price as I thought it would be much higher. The lady I spoke to told me that she had a patient go to TJ because it was 'cheaper' and she didn't want to wait for a surgery date--she only saved $900 because she didn't realize the price in TJ didn't included air fare. And then she told me that in my area, only one doctor would touch an out of the US band and he was 2 hours away! Good Luck!
