Surgery Worries
- Surgery Worries
First of all, breeeeeaaaaatttthhhhhh. Being nervous is such a normal thing for any surgery, much less THIS EXCITING NEW LIFE ALTERING GREAT SURGERY! Being said that, AND being a surgical nurse, I must admit I was nervous the morning of. I promise you they will give you versed to make you not care about a care in the world, and then when you wake up you won't even know they did surgery. The pain, yeah its pain- but it is the most doable pain in the world. Personally, I was only on pain meds two days. You will see everyone talking about gas pain. Walk, walk and more walking. It will pass. Give it a week and you will feel great! Best of luck to you all!- New Blog
Hey all, hope you are all doing well. I wanted to jazz up my blog, so I went to a new blogspot, hope you all will follow it there! http://www.magslapbandjourney.blogspot.com/- First Two Weeks...
Hey all! I was banded on the 10th. It seems so far away! Feeling great. Im on mushies for the rest of this week and next. I constantly re-reading my paperwork to make sure im not missing anything. Need to get moving. What are you all doing for exercise? Glad everyone is doing so well!- Got My Band!!!
Im on mushy phase and still needing to add protein powder. I use Nectar Brand chocolate and for a full scoop it has 24g protein. I also am sick of protein drinks so I purchased from Bariatric Choice the Wonderslim pudding. It has 12g I think og protein and i add 8g of my protein powder. Its a great little sweet snack for 20g of protein to boot! Im going to buy their pancake mix on my next phase because they are also 15g!- Surgery Date Moved To Jan28Th Little Disappointed
It will be here before you know it! Hang in there.- Wanna Spoon?
Wow, I can't believe I'm seven days post-op! For a few days there I didn't think I would ever start feeling better. Started this morning off with 2 lightly scrambled eggs (1/2 c.) giving me 14g of protein off the bat. Then I met my mom & dad at a local mall to walk. It was GREAT. The Mills Mall in St. Louis was all the rage when it opened and now its a glorified walking track. Found it hilarious that my parents were waving at everyone, saying hi to new friends they've made as if they were local celebrities. Of course we had to stop twice for my mom to poop- guess thats where I get my obsession with poop from? Its all coming to me now.....hahaha. Then I thought I would spice it up acting like a crazy excersise lady raising my arms to and fro as if I was holding weights, clapping, saying loudly, "yeah, feel the burn, whoooo!~" So proud of my parents- although I must be adopted because I certainly didn't get any fat genes from them (they are both relatively normal size), but my dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes. It was definitely a wake up call for everyone in the family. They still party it up drinking at the local "tavern" with their friends, but their diet has COMPLETELY changed. They walk everyday with two of my aunts at the mall. If they can do it, so can I. No excuses. My find of the day were a set of 8 really cute baby spoons! I know the things that excite me in life, right? My husband commented on the fact that he thought I was eating too fast. Listen here buddy, you try eating liquids for a week and then when you are blessed with a 1/2 c of ANYTHING tell me YOU wouldn't eat it fast. Funny though, contrary to him thinking I DON"T listen, I took his words and purchased baby spoons. Let me tell you- that was a fun shopping experience.....do I go with the Transformer spoon, Cinderella, or the Dora. Choices, choices........then I spotted a package of 8 various colors NO CARTOON spoons and the handle is long! PERFECT. Enjoying my greek yogurt with my new blue spoon. Life is good.- It's A Beautiful Day!
I'll be honest. Everyone is different, but I was still in pain and just generally feeling pooped out. If you are only working 1/2 day might be doable, but just don't overdo it. AND make sure you bring plenty of jello, etc to work if you will still be on clears at that point. You don't want to be at work "stuck". Best of luck, let me know how it goes!- Got My Band!!!
Yes! I could hear my stomach growling and rumbling, but no hunger. I am on to mushies for two weeks, and hopefully as the natural swelling of my body as it heals diminishes, I'm hoping no hunger to continue! I go for my first fill Feb 9th. Hope it continues for you as well!- Drinking While Eating Should I?
I'm glad you mentioned spicy foods! My son came out of the womb requesting chicken wings because I eat so much spicy food! How does your new stomach tolerate it?- Stuck On 30
- Stuck On 30
Sounds like your in tge Red Zone. Talk to your surgeon, hes there to help you succeed! Also if there is a dietician in the office talk over your diet with her. Are you getting your protein and fluid intake all in? Just some thought.- It's A Beautiful Day!
Tomorrow will be my week bandiversary. Over this past week Ive felt good, Ive felt like crap. Ive cried, Ive laughed (while holding my stomach!) Ive RUN To the bathroom, and Ive come to this site alot. Ive walked to the end of my road and back so much that I think my neighbors think Im stalking them. Several of the recent January Bandsters said "hang in there, come day 6 or 7 you will turn the corner. Boy where they right! I feel amazing today!!!! Still having left sided pain when i breath in too deep but I can live with that. At my 1ST follow up, my scale matched the doctors, so 16lbs down (11 from surgery date). It was nice to review things with the nurse educator after I saw the Dr. I keep reading over my material to make sure im on track. Today I graduated to mushies! And I have to say 1/2 c. Cottage cheese never tasted so good to chew. Im finding creative ways to get my protein in without drinking a protein drink. My yogurt was 8g protein so i added 12g protein powder giving my plain yogurt some flavor all while getting in 20g protein! I think another imperative spirit lifter was seeing my co-workers today. Everyone knows i had surgery so Im not in the "fat closet". It was great having everyone tell me how great i look and how my boobs have shrunk! ( guess that was a compliment?) Lol. Today was a beautiful day! Im looking forward to many many more!- Here A Scale, There A Scale, Everywhere A Scale Scale!
So it's day five out and I' m BACK! To hell with these crying spells and pitty party! Today I've gotten up every two hours to walk, gotten all my protein in, and tried to get my water in. So I had officially decided NOT to get on the scale before my first doctors appointment..........couldnt help myself! Im down 16lbs! Super excited, but honestly Im really excited about eating more than just protein shakes, jello, broth and popsicles. I did find a trick to spicing up my protein shakes with a packet of decaf instant coffee!- So Blessed To Have This Site!
I didn't go for two days, then the holy throan opened up. It was terrible! It felt like the protein shakes were running right through me. My diet can include skim milk, so I started adding that to protein powder, plus I think I was drinking wayyyyy to fast! Does your doctor have you drinking 4-6oz/hour for the first week? I'm afraid I drank too fast and that I messed something up because I STILL have this God awful left sided pain when I breath in I get a sharp rib pain. I've slowed up on the bowel movements for sure though. Hopefully once I'm eating regular foods next week I can get regular again!- 6 Month Required Physician Visits???
Mine was three months at first, so when I was on my 3rd visit (May 2011) my Weight Loss Institute called me and said my insurance requirements had changed. Devistated. Then I got pissed and said well I'll show you and didn't see my PCP for two months. Boy I really showed them didn't I. How stupid was that! The insurance requirements were changed to six months with my pcp. My last appt. with my surgeon did count though. My visits also did not have to be consecutive. My recommendation to ANYONE getting this surgery is don't let other people (your Dr.s office) do the work for you. You are the patient- CALL your insurance company. Mine faxed me the direct weight loss surgery policy so if I had any questions, I could refer to that. Every insurance company is different, so stay up on it.- Starting Up! Help With All Areas Of Lapband Surgery
Each insurance is different on the requirements. I have Blue Cross blue Shield (anthem) and they had me do 6 months of Dr. supervised visits for weight loss (I didn't lose a thing). I would just check out and ask specific questions when you are inquiring to various insurance groups to fax you their specific policies regarding lapband surgery and specifically ask how long you have to be insured before it will cover. You don't want to get into it and then have any surprises come up. Good luck with your journey! - Surgery Worries
