  1. Hey if being a cyber bully and being a jerk makes your day, then I guess go for it. I wasn't in the "rant's" section. Unfortunately I had to see this nonsense spewed under recent posts. Go ahead, you have to live inside your own self, and that, with that attitude is punishment in and of itself. Obviously there are some people that know the OP wasn't just talking about random spelling and see the finger pointing. Don't kid yourself to make yourself feel better. Some of you appear way to stubborn. Just makes me laugh thinking that you too, probably had to go through much of your life ridiculed, or wondering if that person whispering on the corner was talking about you being fat. Same thing, but think what you like. Typical ignorance. Go on back and enjoy being the mean girls. The title suits.
  2. Anyone know what day Dr. Hollis performs his surgeries? For example, my Gyno only operates every Thursday. Just trying to manipulate my July schedule around. Carleigh, from his office is calling me back tomorrow, but I need to work on my schedule tonight and I don't want to put work in a particular sticky spot where he would want to perform the band.
  3. I don't care how one opts to slice it, there is NO excuse for being so vile and rude. There is no excuse to "make fun of someone" simply because they are not up to par in spelling for the OP. And the people supporting the OP are supporting the gang/bully mentality and acting like this particular forum is an excuse for it, being that it's called "rants and raves". Don't you believe "rants and raves" just might pertain to the subject of the entire forum, rants about the LAP BAND and daily struggles? Not about your own personal opinion about someones IQ to make you feel better about yourself by the pat's on the back from other cyber bullies. Who wants to have those kind of friends? It may be called "Rants and Raves", but it isn't called "bully thy neighbor". You know that when you point a finger at someone, there are always 3 pointed right back at you. It's an immature post and I would be willing to bet the OP is very young and doesn't fully understand that words hurt. I am sure that she has been called fat in her life, so it may be instilled to attack back. I just hope she learns something from this.
  4. Wow, I guess the anger never goes away. It's really easy to fix this horrible problem with other posters. Stop reading them. You never know, maybe they are not as educated as you assume yourself to be. I find the whole OP completely rude, and lacking any taste what so ever. How about someone post on how to be tactful.
  5. not every insurance makes you diet. mine did not. it is an agreement with my company and uhc. some only do 3 as well.
  6. I have and will not forget about this topic. I am still out sick with pneumonia, and also pre surgery. I just wanted to stop by, say hi and I am determined to find a little place to gather for us south siders, or whomever might want to come down south from the Houston area. Either for coffee, or i recently just went to a really cool and 1 hour wine tasting at HAAK vineyards in Santa Fe. It was only 15 bucks and the 7 tastings only equaled about 1 glass. It was also just really pretty out there and neat-o to visit a vineyard right here in SE Texas. Those are just 2 options, but of course there is Galveston or Kemah. Lots of ideas. Feel free to imput.
  7. Question about food. How do you have the energy to really exercise when taking in such few calories. I know I will be drinking a lot of Protein drinks, probably for a very. very long time for 2 meals, but the book I am reading states that less than 2 meals is perfectly fine. If you are not hungry then just eat one. Never eat when not hungry. Problem is, is that food=energy. I used to be quite athletic and would like to get back to that kind of lifestyle, but where does the fuel come from? When I was young, I could consume the necessary carbs to privde me with the energy I needed to get out and plays sports that required a lot of endurance. My friend that had the surgery says that even after 7 years she most likely takes in 500 calories a day, but that she feels active and energetic. Seems impossible. What say you.
  8. Good morning to my new favorite website. I have a question...... I am reading a book that was given to me by the medical staff called "The Lap-Band Solution". I am puzzled by something. Let me start by saying I am not a soda drinker, that will be zero problem for me, however, my good friend, whom also had the surgey 7 years ago told me that one of the strict NO-NO's is NO CARBONATED beverages.....EVER. I am now a little perplexed, because in the book, by Paul O'brien (a world leader in weight loss research and Lap-band surgery states, on page 228; "You are allowed to drink unlimited amounts of: Water, mineral water, tea and coffee and LOW-CALORIE soft drinks." Now, I have no desire for soft drinks. Could not care less. I do however Love to have a nice beer when I vacation. I don't drink it at home, however, when I travel out of the country, I like to enjoy a nice local brew. It is just a treat that I thoroughly looove. How do I get 2 such different opinion's and what has your doc told you. I do not want to alter the shape of the stomach, but if you can drink mineral water and non-fat sodas, then why are ale's not allowed, other than the calorie aspect. Also, in the book, it states You may dink 7 glasses of wine a week and that it is quite great for you, even with dinner. Please help this newbie that has recently been approved for surgery. Of course I will discuss with the surgeon, but I would like to hear your opinion. I don't drink a lot, but found this surprising. My friend DID say that her Doc said it was perfectly fine to have wine or coctail, so long as it's only so many per week, but what about just one or two beers while on a weeks vacation? I have another question, but will ask it on a separate thread as this one has become quite lengthy.
  9. If you don't mind me asking, what were your insurance terms. Basically, what was his charge for the whole procedure? My insurance pays 90%, I am left with 10% not bad, but I have vacay coming. What was your total cost of the surgery, what percentage did you have to pay through your insurance. If that is too personal, just don't bother answering. Just trying to be prepared.
  10. ok all the Hollis peeps here. The weekend is excruciating. The staff has been out until tomorrow-all are in CA for conference. When they gave you a date, how far along was it after you approval. I still need my EGD by Dr Hollis. Sure wish he could do that during surgery.
  11. I will work on a FB group. Unfortunately I am sick with pneumonia rght now. Getting way better ny the day, so tomorrow, I will work on a SE Houston FB group!
  12. I called 6 days after submitted. UHC said it was pending. I called every day and was told today it was approved. It pays to keep on it. Otherwise I would have waited for snail mail. My papers were submitted on the 14th. Approved today! Doesn't hurt to call.
  13. I dunno if there is another area for this. It is all coming at me so quick. I am in League City, Tx, just south of Houston about 20 minutes. Having surgery at Memorial Hermann SE. I have, of course been watching many a you tube video and one in particular says it is super important to have persons around you in the same boat to keep you on your toes. I am approved and awaiting my July date exactly. Anyone interested in maybe creating a FB page for SE Houston bandsters? Maybe some coffee/tea somewhere and then a phone support system after?
  14. Supposedly, if I can get my 10% together. I have so much on my plate, but July something is the goal. Docs out of town on a conference, so I won't know the exact July date until Monday. But I am in however I have to do it.
  15. 7-10 only. I am 209, so I can't go to low, although they also said that they go by first weight. I have been dieting anyways as I have vacation coming up (I always crash diet for cruising). I am afraid I am really gonna jack this up, or my liver, or kidneys or something. ughhhh.
  16. these diets vary so much. My 2 week consists of 2 Meal Replacement shakes-high Protein for bfix and lunch dinner-6-8 oz lean meat, 1 c. green veggie 1c. fruit-no banana SF Jello or popsicles. chewable Vitamin acceptable calorie free liquids include SF juices, broths, coffee, tea, V8 juice, Water. I personally drink loads of water, so no problem there. Bye bye wine. no fats no high sugar no carbs or starch 0 dairy 0 fried or breaded foods.
  17. some say 20 gr of Protein, some say 45. what is too much and too little. I guess one shouldn't overstress about it considering some don't require ANY type pre-op diet. edit. i see now on the paperwork that protein should be 20 oz per serving. gah.....just shooting them would be best for me.
  18. In my job, drinking Breakfast and lunch is a great option for me. I am going to go the Protein shot route. Some type of fruit flavor, I am sick of chocolate or vanilla diet drinks. My instructions permit "protein shots" in propel (I guess that is water). Any suggestions on shot brands. I mean do you just drop them in there like a flaming Dr. Pepper, lol? It's hot and I want something that can be downed cold and quickly. I also can't lose a ton of weight they said. 7-10 pounds. Yet, they also said that I wouldn't be judged on my pre-op weight. HELP on both accounts plz, but mainly on the protein shots, there are a ton online, even a grape one by sunkist called sunkist grape 4200.
  19. That would have turned me into a stress bucket. Had I done all that and NOT gotten approved!!!! Yikes!
  20. how long did it take you to get that EGD appt? The receptionist said she would call me monday, but how long til they got you in for the EGD to be performed?
  21. Thanks a mil. I was so scared to get on these boards, because reading all the positivity really scared me into how depressed I might be on denial. Even looking through for before pics, I have none as of the last couple years, so I found the best I could. Not nearly at my worst. Getting some conflicting info on diet. Surgeons office says don't lose to much, even though it is based on first weigh in. I lose soooooo slow that I really don't know what to do. Start now or wait until 2 weeks prior. What shakes did you do? I need a ticker, too. Doesn't seem to work under the tab listed here

  23. I have been hesitant to put stats like everyone else, because of fear of denial, but today is the day! I was approved for surgery! It will be next month and not a moment too soon! Now, let me go work on my stats!!!!! Still gotta get my egd. Surgeon is gonna do it but the entire surgical staff has been on conference in CA for all of last week. Wait for EGD appointment assignment on Monday...argh. UHC pays for 90%, so I am not sure how much I will owe upfront, will start hawking if I must! lol. When she told me that I would be having my surgery in July, she told me that I would be free to take my cruise on Aug 11th. It planned and paid for. What a test! Anyone else taken vacay after surgery? I am hoping to have a good week off after surgery and prior to cruise.
  24. good to know. will try that. thx Nacol!
