  1. 2 days post op and doing pretty good. Right now the toughest thing for me is trying to decide if my pains are gas, hunger, incision, muscle or if I'm too full. I've been sipping water all the time and have also had some protein shakes, greek yogurt, SF popsicles, applesauce and SF jello. I haven't had pain meds for about 9-10 hours and trying to decide if I should take some or not. Pain is not bad at all or I would have had more by now.
  2. I think it is normal to second guess yourself right up until you are put under...and then some! I was just banded on Friday and although I knew I would go through with it, I did still second guess myself all along. I also have read about a lot of people that at about 3 days post op (I'm 2 right now) start wondering what in the world have they done! A couple of weeks later they all seem to be very happy with their decision. Hang in there! Teri
  3. I feel like I'm starving too! I am having Protein shakes but my post op instructions say no more than 30-40 g of protein from them but I'm supposed to get 95-100 a day! I have added some to greek yogurt also to up the protein level. Today I tried some of the cream from some cream of chicken soup. I'm afraid to eat too much at once even though it is liquid because the last thing I want is for it to come up! I'm glad we were banded the same day and are having the same issues! Maybe one of us will figure it out and can pass it along!
  4. Things went very well for me, thank you! Almost 36 hours post op and so far no shoulder pain. I'm keeping up with the minimum amount of pain meds the doctor gave me though. My husband is keeping an eye on it and stretching the 4-6 hours to 5 hours today and 6 hours tomorrow to help me out.
  5. I think every doctor is a little different. I think it is best to stick with your own doctors requirements, that way if there are any issues you have complied with their rules and it helps them to know where to start looking.
  6. Things are still going good for me so far! No shoulder pain yet and had my first Protein shake (after surgery) today. I'm keeping up on my pain meds and am happy to report I am passing gas ~ my family doesn't care as much for that part! The toughest part for me so far was the sore throat yesterday, I'm waiting to see if I still get any more of the post op pains. I don't have stitches or steristrips, they used dermabond but I still can't take a shower until tomorrow.
  7. Jesscaba - thanks for letting me tag on along on your topic. I'm not in too much pain right now but think it will kick in later. Although I have been extremely tired since surgery I wasn't able to sleep at all until I got home then only for about 1 1/2 hour.
  8. I'm actually in pre op now with my IV started! Waiting to talk to the surgeon then they will give me meds to help relax me.
  9. Getting ready to have my last meal on my old stomach! A protein shake and a protein bar!
  10. Husbands!...Mine supports me but is not overly excited. Maybe because we've been married almost 22 years. Congratulations on your approval!
  11. It's almost here! Friday the 13th. I am starting to get a little more nervous but not as much as I though I would. How has it been for the rest of you? Did you get more nervous the closer it got to surgery? Or was it smooth sailing all the way? Teri
  12. I think you should be honest with your therapist. I'm guessing the therapist may have known or at least felt you weren't being completely honest. I know it may seem like things are horrible now but imagine if you don't work through your issues and have to deal with them at the same time as learning to live with a new way of eating and a new way of coping, if you've turned to food in the past. The psych consult isn't there to get more money out of us (at least in most cases - lol) it is a measure used to help us long term. Be grateful, as hard as it may be, that you have this opportunity to deal with things before surgery. I'm guessing a lot of the posts we read from those who are unhappy with their band are really unhappy with something else and thought the band would be a fix-all. Think of how they must feel right now! I have surgery Friday so it may be easier for me to say these things right now since I am not in your shoes. You are right that the pre-op diet is not easy but be honest with yourself and honest with your therapist and find out why it is hard for you, it can only help you in the long run. Vent any time you want! Good Luck!
  13. What is considered the Quad-city area in IL? I live in southern WI and am being banded on Friday.
  14. I already used a CPAP so I didn't need one. I think a lot of it depends on your doctor and other health factors.
  15. Are you on a computer or a mobile device? On the computer there should be a join this group button. The mobile site is not as user friendly as the computer version. Although I am a member of the Springers group I am not able to read any of the posts from my android. It asks for a password if I even get that far. The mobile app is still new and hopefully these things will be worked out. Hope this helps some!
  16. Don't think it's apple. I'm using a PC and having the same problem.
  17. B52 I want to thank you for hanging around and giving advice! I am halfway to my goal weight and have yet to be banded. I know banding is a tool I need to keep the weight off and although I do not look forward to some of the possible side effects I know it is something I need. I enjoy reading your posts because you say it like it is, we all need encouragement but without reality, encouragement won't do us much good! Thanks again for all the information you provide to all of us on this site!
  18. My3 I'm right there with you! After I received my approval I was eating a lot of things that I should not have been. Now I am on my pre-op diet and losing again. This is one of the reasons I know I will need to keep current with my follow up appointments after surgery. From my pre surgery group classes I have learned that it is really around the 1 1/2 - 2 year mark that most people start to have a little trouble. By that time they have usually lost most or all their weight and don't feel the need for support groups, etc. Lets keep helping and educating each other!
  19. The Wisconsin Dells is the Water Park Capital of the world (or so they claim!) It started out as a tourist area because of the beautiful area around the river. Over many years it has grown and is an area with many indoor and outdoor waterparks as well as other tourist type activities including zip lines, boat rides, and shopping!
  20. I'm on my pre-op diet and tried something new last night. I really like onions cooked in with things as well as onion rings and awesome blossom type onions. Last night I cut an onion similar to how an awesome blossom would be cut, sprayed some foil with non stick spray and tented it around the onion. I left it in the oven for 45 min at 350 and it was great! It probably does not need to be in the oven that long but it was my first time and that is just what I tried this time.
  21. I am also looking forward to riding roller coasters and not worrying whether or not the harness is going to fit! I have not been on a zip line but also am hoping to give it a try. I don't live too far from the Wisconsin Dells and hope to spend some time there this summer doing things I was too large to do last summer!
  22. During this time, I also had two kids (now 16 and 12)....My son was diagnosed with very high functioning autism... Hi Jennie, My kids are 16 and 13 and my son is "mom diagnosed" with PDD-NOS. I am a special ed aide and everyone that knows my son and is familiar with autism says he is on the spectrum although he has never had a formal diagnosis. Because of my sons sensory issues he had to be sedated for earwax removal today. The nice thing about it for me is it was at the same place I will be having my Lap-Band so it was a chance for me to see the area and get a little familiar with it.
  23. I am also glad you mentioned it to your nurse. I will keep you in my prayers!
