    Food Question For Sucessful Banders

I have been banded since October 2011 and have found that I can eat most of the things I ate before the band with a few exceptions. Bread is a HUGE issue for me, it just does not want to go down and gets stuck. But everything else I can do as long as I eat small bites. As for eating what you use to before you were banded, yes you can but with limits. For example we have a tridition at our house is that Friday evenings are pizza and a movie night. I can still eat pizza i just only eat 1 slice instead of half the pizza. You will have to eat ALOT slower with the band which will fill you up quicker. But if you want something do not deny yourself just do it in moderation. Even though I have been banded for a little less then 4 months I still get what I call "fat girl" moments and try to shove food in to my mouth to fast. I know when that happens almost instantly (not to gross you out) but am usually in the restroom within minutes throwing it up. You learn what you can and can not eat. I think one of the hardest parts is unlearning the many years of bad habits. Hope this helps :-)

Anyone Have Pus In Their Incisions?

I had the same issue some what when I got my lapband back in October. I called the doctor and long story short was told it was the glue they used to close me up that I was seeing. I would call the doctor to be safe but if you are cleaning it and there is no odor I think you are doing all that you can.
  3. I was diagnosed back in my early teens (almost 20 years ago) as bi-polar. I was on an XR tablet that controled my problem until lapband was placed in Mid October. As soon as I was able to I meet with my doctor and they prescribed me teh same meds just not the XR kind since they can not be broken in two. I now take my meds 2 times a day (once in teh morning and once again in the late afternoon) and while I notice a very mild change it is nothing that i can not control. That being said talk with your doctor and maybe they make your medicine with out the XR so that you can break the pill into two. Good luck!!!
  4. That is FANTASTIC!!!! But like others say the first few weeks the weight just falls off. After you start eating more solid foods it will not come off as quickly but that is ok, it is a process. I have to remind myself (almost daily) that I did not put it on over night ans it will not come off overnight. CONGRATS again!!
  5. Just a question, but does anyone else have a problem with sinus drainage and throwing up? I was banded 10/21/11 and had my first fill on the 18th. The last few days I have had sinus drainage and can not keep anything down and when I throw up it is the food I have just eaten and lots of mucus. Does anyone else have a problem or had a problem like this before? Thansk
  6. WAY TO GO!!!! I was banded on the 21st of October and have lost 41 pounds thus far. That being said as soon as you go back to solids you will not be losing as much as fast, but that is OK just dont let it keep you down. I am not telling you this to discourage you but to give you a realistic view of what will happen. That being said I am still losing it is just slower. But keep up the great work!!!
  7. I am 3 weeks babded and have my first fill on the 18th of November, what can I expect at the doctors office, after the fill, how will I feel after my first fill? I am a little nerveous because I am reading stories that people do not feel any difference and are eating more then before they were filled. I guess I am hoping for some sucess stories and any sugestions so that I can suceed at losing weight.
  8. Having some weird issues and I am hoping that if I post here someone else might have gone through or going through the same thing. I was banded 10/21/11 and band wise doing great 34 pounds lost thus far. But about a week after the band was put on I developed a "cyst" like bump under my left arm. It begain to hurt to where I could not lift my arm so long story short I thought it was a bug bite and lanced it myself. Cut to last Monday (about 2 weeks later) I developed 3 "cyst" type lumps on my right side under my arm. They were so painfull that I ended up in the ER Sunday night to get them lanced and cleaned. They checked for strep and staph but I came back fine (thank goodness). Now I have another "cyst" developing on my left side again. I have been to a dermatologist and was told they are not what it is and was put on antibiotic cream and liquid. I guess what I want to know is has anyone had anything like this happen to them? Is this happening because of the band or is this just a coincidence that I am getting these after I was banded. I do not to call the surgeon if this is not realted but I also do not want it to get out of hand.

    A Tiny Thanksgiving Dilemma

If you do not feel like telling him that is your choice. You have a few options, you can say that you have a stomach bug and dont go or if you do go tell them you are getting over food poising and that your doctor will only allow you to eat liquids. This way it is only a little white lie.
  10. I am 3 weeks banded and feeling great, but I am having some challenges and hope that some people here can give me advice. I am a night eater, meaning I can go most of the day not very hungry. I usually have a cup of coffee in the morning about 7am then eat lunch at 12 consisting of vegies (I love veggies) and then I am good till I get home. Apparently my internal clock is placed in my stomach, because come 7pm everynight I am starving and want to eat like a fat kid at a buffett. Joking aside, last night after the gym (just started back), dinner and putting my son to bed I caught myself eating a bowl of my sons cinnamon toast crunch Cereal, mind you it was a small bowl but still not the best thing for me. Please tell me I am not the only one that has night cravings. Have any of you gone through this and were able to get past it? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to crave this night time hunger?

What To Expect On My First Lap Band Fill

I am thinking I might need a fill, I am starting to eat more and have not lost any weight since middle of last week. I am not gaining which is good but I am not losing either. I did try to eat a small meal yesterday and ended up throwing it up because it got stuck, but that could have also been because I think I ate it too fast. (My inner fat girl was comming out and wanted the food fast). I appriciate all the advice as I was nervous with all the stories I have read. Thanks for your advice!

    I'm starving!!!!!!

I feel you, I had surgery on the 21st and as of Friday can go to mushy foods, to be honest I have never been so excited to eat mush. I have to agree that sugar free popsicles are the best to get you thru the cravings, you at least get to "chew" and that is really what you are missing. I also recommend sugar free apple juice mixed with Water (to cut the calories) when you get sick of water. I am about a week ahead of you and can promise that the feeling will go away, it takes some time but stick with it!!! Another thing that helped me is that I am telling EVERYONE about my lap band, I figure that it is alot harder to cheat when other are looking at you and wanting you to suceed. Good Luck, you can do it!!
  16. Hi guys, I am 5 days post op (banded 10/21/11) and today is the first day that I am starting to feel "better" . I returned to work on Monday and noticed that by noon I was feeling pretty lously, anyone else feeling bad by the end of the day? I guess what I am wondering is I also had a hernia surgery while they installed the lapband, could this be the cause for "hurting" more then what I thought? I am doing well on the post op diet with the exception of the Protein shake, the ones that I got are HORRIABLE, any one have any sugestions on changing them out?
  17. I am hoping you all can help. I had my surgery on Friday (10/21/11) and have a couple of questions I am hoping some can help me with. I have been very good about eatting only Clear liquids, broths, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles but yet I find my self hungry, is this normal? Any sugestions to beat the cravings? For example I am getting ready to prepare lunch for the family and all I can think about right now is eating. Also I can not seem to get rid of the gas, any sugestions? Any sugestions would be great, I want to do well and want to suceed and would love to talk with others that have found things that work for them.

  19. I will be getting lapband after 8 long months of waiting (insurance approval required it) I am scheduled for surgery this Friday (10/21/11) and I am excited and worried. I am excited as I know that this is a start of my new life to a better and healther me, but am worried that it is not going to work that I will slip back into my old ways. I try to keep this negative thought out but past experence has taught me that the weight always comes back. I am trying to be pro active, I have joined the YMCA in my area and even cleaned out all the "bad" food from the house but still I am scared. Anyone else have this problem? Also any advice?
