Backup Plan: Gastric Bypass
Hmmm...my surgeon mentioned to me that the sleeve is unique in that it can be 'easily' converted to a bypass, but he definitely didn't call it a backup plan. He was talking about it in reference to losing enough weight.

Blue Shield Of California Ppo
There seems to be a lag with insurance coordinators knowing that BCBS no longer requires the 6 month wait on a good number of plans. Mine still thinks it even though I went through my insurance documents line by line and it says I no longer need it. Anyway, good luck to you! :-)

Frustrated
I was going to suggest circuit training too. You'll get strength training plus the cardio you like. Once you have your sleeve you won't be able to do strength for 4-6 weeks depending on your surgeon so you'll be doing all walking then.

Surgeon Doesn't Do A Leak Test...deal Breaker?
You know, that's a great point and I didn't think about that. Thanks! Someone mentioned a drain, they do a drain, but it is removed before you go home from the hospital rather than at the first post-op appointment as I've seen a few times here.

Surgeon Doesn't Do A Leak Test...deal Breaker?
My surgeon said he doesn't do a leak test because 1) they've never had a leak and 2) he believes that normal vital monitoring will let the staff know if a leak is present. Any other surgeons not do leak tests before leaving the hospital? Seems a little unconventional to me so I'm trying not to be worried about it. Other than this thing nagging at me, I am extremely confident in the hospital, program, and surgical team.

Wanting To Go Out And Have A Drink...is 7 Weeks Way To Soon?
My packet from my surgeon says to be careful with alcohol not only because it's a slider but also because you may get intoxicated quicker than you're used to. I still say go and have fun! (Just be mindful :-) )

Oily Skin & Acne! Ugh!
I worry about this because I already suffer with moderate acne. From what I've read, it's normal due to the hormones that were stored in your fat cells being released into your body as you lose weight. I wonder how long it takes for your body to regulate the hormones though...

Where Are You 200+Er's?
that's a really good point! Even if we "only" lose 60% of our excess weight, that's not a drop in the bucket!
-
Where Are You 200+Er's?
That's great to hear, that several have lost 150-200 pounds. Thanks for that. I hear you, my goal weight is 180-190 just because I just want to be in one-derland SO BAD! LOL I was annoyed at first because I thought he was going to really try and push RNY on me, but he did just quick blurb comparing the two then the rest of the visit we talked about the sleeve. And like I said, as he was leaving he grabbed my hand and looked me in the eye and said "with dedication and motivation, you'll blow that average out of the water!". So it was left on a very positive note.

Where Are You 200+Er's?
Hey everyone! So I had my surgical consult yesterday. The surgeon was great and gave me some things to think about. He asked me a question regarding weight loss with the sleeve that I'm wondering if any of you have worked through. He said that with the sleeve, patients will lose 60% of their excess body weight. If I fall within this average, I'd lose about 125 pounds which will still categorize me as obese. He said "if that happens, will you be ok with that?". I was surprised by the question so I just said, I guess so. Now that I've had some time to think it through, my answer is HELL no. LOL I'm not going through all of this to still be unhealthy! I plan to exercise to maximize my results, but being honest he's put this little seed of doubt in my head that I need to work through. My hubby, love him, just said "when have you ever been average?". The doc even said that with motivation and dedication, the average can be blown out of the water. So I'm just wondering, for those of us that need to lose more than the average, how are you attacking it? How are you keeping yourself motivated? Do you ever wonder about the what if's?
