  1. The first thing that came to mind as I read this was riding, driving, or getting on boats with an empty stomach. After banding, I am sure that this is much more likely to happen than in the past. I haven't experienced this since banding, but I can tell you that the times that I have experienced any kind of motion sickness has been when I had nothing in my stomach prior to the event. I don't if this was your case or not though..
  2. Only 8 weeks out from surgery but as of right now I am 100% happy. As of this morning I am 41 lbs down.

    October Bandsters!!!

I think this last fill will be the last one for a while. It is coming up on a week since my 3rd fill and I think I may be in the "green zone" at this point. To top it off I have also lost another 6 lbs since that appointment. I think the eating, exercising, and everything else is all starting to come together. Great feeling.. I hope everyone else is still marching in the right direction.. -K

    October Bandsters!!!

Just a quick check in. Things are going great. I was banded on the 13th and received my 3rd fill today for a total of 6.2cc. So far I am down 35 lbs and going strong. I started running again about 1 month ago. This kept me stagnant for 2 weeks as my body adjusted, but I have started dropping again. I hope everyone is doing well.. -K

    Runners

I'd be curious on what your doctor says. Having run a lot in the past, I am looking forward to getting back to longer distances. So far I haven't experienced any issues since banding, but then again, I haven't had it long and I haven't gone over 3 miles or so. I plan to be back up to marathons and beyond again, before long, so I really hope that I do not experience this moving forward. Good luck to you..

    Terrible Mood....

While this didn't happen to me after surgery, this has happened to me in the past. In my case, I was training a lot and wasn't taking in enough calories for the activity. I raised my calorie intake, started feeling much better, and the weight started dropping as well. Have you talked to your doc or nutritionist? You could always try to limit your workouts or raise the calories a little, to see if you feel a difference. I hope you figure it out. I know it is a miserable feeling. -K
  7. While to me, it doesn't sound like you were "stuck", yes you can have a stuck episode with an empty band. I just recently had my first fill. About 2 weeks ago, while the band was empty I took a bite of something that I knew I probably shouldn't. I knew almost immediately that I had a problem; it didn't take an hour. It was a very unpleasant experience and I will be doing my best to avoid it in the future.. haha.. I have been pretty luck so far. That was the only thing that I have had issues with and I have tried all kinds of food. I know this may change as I get more fills. Good luck to you..

    How much time off work?

I went back after 3 days off.
  9. Static line jumps just means that you have a line connected to your parachute as you exit the airplane. It automatically pulls your chute as you fall from the plane. To me, these are more scary and not as much fun. Most of ours were done in the dark, exit from 800ft (VERY LOW... skydiving is typically 10k-13k ft), and you land really hard. Skydiving is MUCH better. You will enjoy it.
  10. That is an awesome reward! When I was in the military I did static line jumps for my day job, but on the weekends I spent my time skydiving. This is something that I really miss. When I get back down I plan on making a few more jumps. Other than skydiving, I have always wanted to hang glide and fly in a sailplane. Who knows... One thing that is definitely on my list is to finish out my NAUI Divemaster. I started down this road a while back, but never finished. I really want to get it before my kids are old enough to dive.

    where is my port area?

-edit.. I didn't see the post from formykids2.. Pretty much what they said.. In my case, it is under the largest of the five incisions. It was the area that was the most sore and there is hard knot feeling under it. And yes, from what I have seen (haven't had it long enough to have a fill) they deaden the area and use a special needle to go through the skin and into the port.

    Preop diet starts today

skinnygrrlatheart .. It gets easier. I had the same pre-op diet and surgeon as D_1710. I would have to say that the second - third day was the worst. That is when I started going through withdrawals from Coke and caffeine. After that, it was smooth sailing. I had my surgery yesterday and all went well. I am sure that was in part due to following the pre-op diet and instructions. Good luck to you. I am sure you will do great.

    October Bandsters!!!

I was banded yesterday and actually feel pretty good. I have been taking pain meds and gas-x on a regular basis. I was told to take it the first 24 hours whether I thought I needed it or not. So, the dose I took at 5 A.M. this morning was probably (cross my fingers) my last. Feeling pretty good and can't wait to get started on the phase. I had two weeks of liquids pre-op (lost 14 lbs) and now I have 2 weeks of it post-op, followed by 2 weeks of blended. Haha.. It is kind of sad that I am so looking forward to blended foods. Good luck everyone..

    your pain after surgery

I had mine put in this morning. Right now there is no real pain, I am just sore. As someone else posted, it feels like I have done a lot of crunches. The only other surgery that I have to really compare it to is the one on my leg. I have plate and 11 screws. The pain after that one was a 1000 times worse than this one. For me, the anticipation of this procedure is much worse than the procedure itself. -K
  15. I joined the crowd today. I reported to the hospital at 3 A.M. and sat around until 3:30. After checking in I got one of my cool bracelets of the day and was taken back answer more questions and put on the gown. Once I got out of my street clothes and got an IV they brought back my wife. She got back there in time to see me get my Heparin shot. It wasn't too bad, but I still didn't like it. As we chatted the nurse put some compression socks / boots on me. I saw the OR nurse, the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and a PA. All of them had the same round of questions, but that was ok with me. I wanted to make sure we were all on the same sheet of music. The PA then looked at me, pulled the cap off of a syringe, and said "The Bar is open"... haha WoW. Pretty quick I told my wife "I can feel that already". I remember the PA saying "That is the good stuff". I was pretty much out at that point. My wife told me that she gave a couple of kisses and they wheeled me off about 5:15 A.M. I do slightly remember a couple of things in the OR. I remember (somewhat) transferring beds, two people asking me to scoot my head back a little, looking down towards the bottom of the bed thinking "that is how the tilt the bed with me on it"... haha.. Not sure what I was thinking. I watched a full LB procedure on Youtube and remember them tilting the bed, so that was probably stuck in my brain. The next thing I remember is someone saying "Take a deep breath" and called my name. I don't believe I came to right then because I remember looking up at a clock at 6:45 A.M. and no one was next to me. The nurse came over and we moved over to a wheel chair. She said that I would head down to radiology in a few minutes for my drink. Well, an hour and 15 minutes later, they still were not ready for me. They were backed up for some reason. During this time, I did have two waves of nausea which really sucks after having your stomach worked on. Each time it lasted maybe 30 seconds. Finally, after about an hour and 45 minutes I went to radiology. I had one other wave of nausea there. Again, this was short lived and we moved on to that chalky drink. When I was finished they moved me from PACU to something they called Step Down. I sat in there for what seemed like forever. Since I was held up going into radiology, my surgeon went on to another procedure. This meant he was not available to check out the x-rays. This was holding things up. That was fine, since all I seemed to want to do is take a nap.. haha.Once they were cleared, I drank some water, used the restroom, got dressed, and was discharged at 11:00 A.M and home by 11:30 A.M. Other than the little delay going into radiology, I would say that everything went great. I am feeling much better than I thought I would. My throat is a little scratchy and I feel like I did 1000 crunches last night, but other than that, everything was great. At this point, I would have no problems doing it all over again. The anticipation is much worse than the procedure. -K
