Inamed does actually HAVE to document any defective device. Your doctor should have recorded the serial # and tracked it in your operative record. don.mills@inamed.com is customer representative. he's very good to answer questions.

Well. I'm home! I wound up having to stay the night, but everything is working as it should. He wound up replacing the band and fixing a hiatal hernia that really should have been fixed the first time around. So in addition to my SIX NEW holes, I also have a sore throat. I look like I've been in a stabbing. lol.. On top of that, somehow? I got a black eye in the process? Speculation is the tape over my eyes in surgery? Or possibly when I was being positioned? Strange. So.. I'm Lethalwoman - 11 stab wounds and a black eye. I wished he could have used the existing scars. To top all that. They gave me morphine in my PCA pump, which I turned out to be basically allergic to. Immediately, I started itching so bad I couldn't lay still or get comfortable in any way. They had to bring benadryl and change to demerol. Then, the demerol gave me an awful headache, which then made me feel nauseated. lol. It was a rough night. Today has been better. I have one larger incision, which the most painful, but the rest I can't even tell are there. I'm able to walk slowly, but I couldn't get in any hurry, for sure. I really do like my new doctor, though. So all in all, I think it will turn out to be a good experience. I've just walked in and probably need to rest awhile. So I'll write more later. Actually, I have heard this restriction/altitude thing many times before. I agree with Donali, that it may not be logical, although I knew a woman who would go into the city for her fills and be fine, but lived up in a higher elevation. By the time she would get home, she swore she could tell the difference.. I dunno. To me, it's just different from day to day. They also say menstrual cycles, etc affect the band too.. It's a very interesting piece of equipment, the band... Leatha

My insurance did pay and is paying for my repair tomorrow, however, each employer purchases different policies, so even if you have the same provider, the exclusions could be different. It wouldn't hurt to call them and just see? Leatha Cigna PPO then, EPP now.

Teresa, This is very good advice. Most people really don't understand how hard local care is to get when they get banded elsewhere. And, it's getting worse. Everyday I hear of a new doc that has announced he will no longer see patients he/she did not band themselves. This is all due to liability insurance, but so many people just get so excited about getting banded that they overlook the fact that it's forever. Mexico is a longgggggggggggg way away in the event of an emergency, so you must have a backup plan in place BEFORE you get banded. I did not go to Mexico, but I did relocate after I was banded and have had a horrible time getting follow up care. Take what you can use and leave the rest... Leatha

You're still in the early stages, Lisa. It's a good thing that you haven't PB'd! This is one of the main causes of slippage. It will come. I promise you. As you get more and more restriction, it's almost certain that you will PB. Hopefully, once or twice will be enough, but there really is no way to gauge how tight you might be one day and not the next. I have been banded 13 months and I can still count on both hands how many actual times this has happened to me and like Teresa, each time was simply because I had not chewed as well as I should or I was in too big of a hurry. I've heard some folks say they do it regularly, but personally, I avoid it at all costs. (and I still got slippage.:think )

:-S Well. There's nothing like waiting until the last minute! I JUST got approval from my insurance company for my surgery in the morning. arghhhhhhh! It's not enough to be nervous about surgery itself, but you gotta be on pins and needles about whether insurance is gonna pay too? So, tommorrow morning I have an EGD and surgery to repair my band slippage. I asked the doc about putting in at least half the fill that I had when they un-filled it and he said no. :-( He reasoned that since I had already had the slippage, he didn't want to set the stage for it to happen again before proper healing time. I guess that's reasonable, but Dr. Maese was the one who suggested it. I'm not looking forward to this, but I am ready to get back on track losing the rest of this weight. Yep! Jessie is a Rumbaut patient. She says she loves it and it's easy access. Mine is right at my waist, which can really hurt if you want to wear jeans or something with a fairly snug waistband. :huytsao

Unless you have sternal placement or above your left breast. I've only heard of port placement on the left side, normally right at your waist. In my case, my port incision was the only one I ever felt any pain with because it's the largest and has the port beneath it. The scar for the port would be larger than the other scars, also. Leatha
