Biggest piece of advice I have so far.... Im 11 days post op, and whatever you do... DONT SCRATCH the incisions! I couldnt help it, they are healing fast but its hot and im sweaty and the anti-itch cream doesnt help much, so im really scared that they might get infected cause they are swollen and bumpy. Please be cautious everyone!!

Hey! Mine was the 9th too - I am feeling awesome, I posted on page 16 bout it - super long, so I wont write it again lol. Recently I noticed yellow bruising on my incision sites, which means they are healing well, thank goodness! I know that the worst is over, and the best is coming. Pain is like a 2, but I tried driving and it wasnt too bad, defininitely doable! I am still on the full liquids for 1 more wk, but Ive been experimenting with small amts of rice, bread (HUGE mistake, dont eat bread so soon!!), and pudding, and so far so good! I know we will be alright jotate! How are you feeling? How is your pain level? Have you tried driving yet??

yep! The full liquids im on for 2 wks, includes all those plus a few more things (yogurt, popsicles, milk-based soups). every surgeon is different, though, and some other ones are allowing their patients things like mashed potatoes and egg salad only 1 wk after surgery! I have been really lucky so far - NO constipation, NO nausea, NO trouble getting in liquids or protein. i was so frightened, thinking the absolute worst would happen, and every day is better than the one before. i wont weigh myself till i see my PCP next wk, i made a promise not to obsess over the scale, but I lost 20 lbs pre-op. also im having a better time getting up from bed - that was tough the first couple of days!!

july 9th sleever - im 2 days post op now! felt NO nausea at all!! (knock on wood) pain is about a 3, and my cuts are starting to itch, which means they are healing! I couldnt eat anything for first 24 hrs, but i found out my doctor didnt want to do the swallow test, so i was able to go straight to the clear liquids! im on full liquids now for 2 wks, then pureeds for another 2 wks. so far, ive been drinking water, protein shakes, jello, tea, pudding, will have some potato soup tonight. Biggest discomfort - after drinking, it feels like my throat gets blocked and nothing can go down, then it passes and i take another swallow, then the fullness comes again. its an ongoing battle, lol. good luck to everyone going this month!!!

That is my date too!! I am excited, a little bit nervous but I am keeping it together well. I am having it near where I live in the Bay Area, CA. I did have to lose a bit of weight, am down a total of 18 lbs from when I started earlier this year. I have Anthem BCBS and they have been so-so, but they are covering at 100% now. I don't have a long pre-op diet, just 48 hours before has to be clear liquids, then 2 wks full liquids, 2 wks pureed, 4 wks soft food, then back to solid at month 3. Have you done all your shopping yet? I am getting everything this weekend, but got a Nutribullet (for the pureed and after) and food scale last week, and am trying to eat all the stuff we have around here now so that its not there afterwards. Also I'm making some household modifications - removable showerhead for the twice daily showers, extra height on my bed and couch so I dont have to bend, and rearranging furniture for easy access. Lots to do!!

    Young Sleevers

Hi all! I'm Sheila, 23 from CA, and i get the SG on 7/9!!! Any words of advice, like things you wish someone told you before the surgery? I'm excited, but a lil nervous...
  9. I am giving myself 3 weeks, just to be safe. I have a desk job, but I think that the full liquid diet I need to be on for 2 weeks is better managed from home, plus my work/short term disability is going to cover me 100% with job security! I would definitely check if that is something they can do for you, instead of using all your vacation for your recovery time.
