  1. I was sleeved on 8/17, and have lost 20lbs since the surgery. I have plateau and have bounced between losing 20-21lbs - when I know it's not a whole pound, it's really half a pound. I have a shake for breakfast, protein for lunch and protein for dinner. I don't know if I need to add something mid morning and mid afternoon, I've been drinking my water like I should. I am going to start walking today and after being off for 10 days, I am going back to work tomorrow. I know it's not going to disappear in the blink of an eye, but I didn't think I could plateau so early in the program. Of course I am not going to give up, I am too scared to eat sweets or anything I'm not supposed to, but argh! I know I need to be more patient but it's gone on for the last three days. Ahh!!

    27 and Sleeved

Such a great story, I can totally relate. I was an average in high school, lost weight in college and since 2003 I've slowly put on 100lbs due to numerous things of overeating, working two jobs, getting married and my thyroid. I found myself eating like a pig in hiding, but eating like a bird in public. There are always an multitude of excuses. I had two friends who were sleeved earlier this year - one friend admitted to not following the plan as scheduled like working out, etc. and she has lost 60lbs since May 2011. I was sleeved on 8/17, and have lost 20lbs since 08/15. I noticed yesterday in the shower it was so much easier to scrub my feet than before and that's when it hit me, that losing weight is actually happening! I have been experiencing ALOT of emotional stress and changes before and after the surgery. I am questioning everything, "Is this where I really want to be in my life?", "Do I want to be married?", "Do I want to take the same way to work everyday?". I know it's things I have to deal with on my own so I decided to see a therapist on the side. My husband is totally supportive but something this severe makes me question everything. I too had black blood which freaked me out but was assured it was normal due to the tubes. Good luck to you!

    Park experience

    Awesome! So happy for you!
  4. I had my sleeve surgery on August 17th with Dr. Hohen in Shawnee Mission, Kansas and am down 14lbs since 08/14. I can't believe how quickly I have lost weight. I am off work until the 29th, but am making sure I am eating right and walking. I had some cottage cheese and a meatball yesterday. Day 7 I can eat deli meats, tuna, etc. Can I eat soft pita bread with hummus? I am trying to figure out what my body is telling me, I don't know when I'm hungry, the only thing I can tell is when my stomach growls, and I don't know if it's just because I'm sore. Has anyone else experienced the same?
  5. Some people just DON'T need to know, it's nobody's business and it's your personal choice to let them in. Besides my hubby, I didn't tell anyone for the longest time because I didn't think they would be supportive and I didn't want to hear it. My parents were shocked, thinking it was all their fault that I was 'overweight'. Still only a handful of people know about our life changing decision (my hubby is going to eat the same foods along with me). I read your blog earlier and it helped me stand up to my mother today. Years ago we had a deal that if I lost 40lbs she would quit smoking. Today, I asked her to same thing and she replied, 'no it's different because you are cheating'. I flipped my **** and explained it's not cheating, it's putting your body at harm by having surgery to make yourself happier and healthier in the long run. Just wanted you to know that you ARE helping others and don't worry about what other people think. I can't tell you how many people have done this surgery within the last year that are actually talking about it because it's "taboo" or "not socially acceptable".
  6. I had my first BM three days out of surgery and it was all liquid, now it's more of a thick yogurt consistency.

    Body Signs

I have a meal plan from day 3-6 of yogurt, unsweetened apple sauce, cream of wheat, oatmeal, etc. Day 7-49 is when I can eat tuna, chicken, deli meat, cottage cheese, etc. Of course I am going to follow the doctor's rules, I'm curious to see if everyone has stuck to their plan. I bought hummus, watermelon, crystal light, laughing cow, string, feta and babebel cheeses. Today I had oatmeal for breakfast, half a protein shake for midmeal, a slice of deli meat and a babebel cheese for lunch and I seem to be keeping it down. I'm so impatient, I want it to go away all now! I walked around Sams club shopping today and I am pooped.

    Body Signs

I figure pita bread and hummus would be healthy, but I'm not even a week out.
  9. I am 5 days post op and down 14lbs.

learning that my stomach is different

Sneezing sucks the worst! Your incisions will not rip open. I have staples in mine and can't wait to get them out on 8/24.

    incision sites

You will have six 1" scars. One right under your breasts and five along your stomach kinda like a smiley under your belly button. Five are incision scars and one is your drain tube scar.
