  1. I had my surgery 4 weeks ago today and am down a total of 48lbs, 20 was preop, 28 since then. Feeling great and moving onto soft foods today. Enjoying it alot and feeling GREAT!

  2. I am in Houston and was sleeved August 10. The entire month of August we had 2 days under 100 degrees, so I didn't really start exercising until this past weekend (3.5 weeks out). I don't have a treadmill so I enjoy walking outside. I was able to take about a 20 minute walk up the street to some shops in my neighborhood and walk around the shops and then walk back. I did get a little gassed out on the way back and could feel the lactic acid building up in my muscles. That all being said, I was a competitive shotput thrower before I got really heavy (part of why I got heavy is that I threw out my shoulder and was used to the ridiculous diet that accompanied hours of workouts and weight sessions every week) and I can tell you the most important thing to do when exercising or lifting is to listen to your body. In general, you want to go up to the point where your body is at it's limit and then try to push it maybe 30 seconds more each day, or 2 more reps if you are lifting, whatever. Most people who are in our situation (overweight) have a laziness about them (myself included). We work to the point where we thing we "can't take it anymore" and just stop. You need to push through. The next day it will be a little more, and a little more, and a little more. Good luck!

    Alcohol?

    I have heard that you should wait 3 months to even try it and then a drink here and there is ok, but not smart to get drunk because alcohol can agitate your still fragile stomach. After about 6 months maybe you can go out and have a few drinks, but it will probably hit you like a brick wall so don't even think about tryin to drive

    Stay strong, the week after surgery is when you are going to have some head hunger. Esp when you see the ads or someone brings in something from a fast food joint and you smell that grease. After another week it gets ALOT easier. That first week or two post op can be rough with the liquids and Protein shakes and what not, but you should be able to mix it up a little bit, try some different broths, try maybe adding a little bit of yogurt into a shake just to change the flavor and texture, I know I was allowed to eat the NON-fruited greek yogurts during weeks 1 and 2 (pretty much plain- yuck, honey or vanilla- they were ok). you just need to mix it up a little bit and remember why you are doing this. I am not 4 weeks out, down a total of 45lbs including the preop diet, and feel great. Also, I am in Houston, so if you need to talk anytime or just want to pick my brain, send me a note and we can meet up. I am 26 also and live inside the loop, it helps to talk!
  5. I am in Houston and was Sleeved on August 10. Time flies post surgery, just be diligent about what you are supposed to do. This is a tool to help you change your life. It doesn't do all the change for you, you gotta help it out. Think of it like a hammer, you couldn't possibly hit a nail into the wall without a hammer but a hammer can't hit it into the wall by itself, you still have to swing the hammer. Work with the sleeve, do what is required of you, make the changes you need to make, and all will be well.

    35 lbs?

    yes that is very good. I have lost 40lbs in 5 weeks (2 weeks preop liquids 3 weeks sleeved) but I also started at 400lbs so it is going to come off faster to start
  7. yep, broth and crystal lite and maybe some protein shakes made with skim milk. day 3 was hard for me, starting with day 4 I could notice that every day got a little easier. I am not almost 2 weeks out and am able to get my 6 ounce protein shake down in 30 minutes no problem. yogurt I nibble on for half hour as well, just don't have the desire to woof anything down, just eating to provide fuel

  9. oh yea, and buy a good tape measure...that is a better judgment of loss than the scale
  10. Rule number 1, throw your scale out the window, call your PCP and ask them if you can come in on morning every other week and weigh in with them.

    August Sleevers!!!!!!!!!!!

    I am on August 10 and am VERY happy to have found this Forum. I am 2 days on my Bariatric Advantage Protein liquid diet, so far so good. In the past two weeks I have given up tobacco (smoked and dipped occasionally), alcohol, diet coke, and now food...HA! I bought some of the shaker bottles at GNC that have the little wisk ball in them and they work GREAT for a shake on the run. Also have some Crystal light powder and several Water bottles with measuring lines on the sides. I have a stack of books to read through during my recovery but honestly just want to get to it. Two weeks cannot go fast enough.
