UPDATE: I'm going to have LapBand surgery instead
Dave i can only imagine what you are going through all this that we do to get to a surgery date and then to be let down. i'm really sorry you have to settle for the band just because your insurance will not cover the sleeve. i haven't had my surgery yet but if for whatever reason Aetna decides they will not cover it i don't know what i would do. Best of luck with the band if you go through with it.

Recovery Time
kiwimitts i had the same question and i am being told it all depends on your body and how well you recover. some said they were off a week, one menber said she had surgery on a wednesday and was cleared for work the following monday. i guess how well your body responds to what happen to it. me personally, i am taking two weeks off just to be on the safe side and like you i do office work nothing too physical but i want to make sure i give myself enough time to adjust to what has happen to my body. your are a little further in the process. i,m only three months in and my insurance company has a six month waiting period. i done most of my testing. i have my sleep study at the end of the month.

:(
kaapuni if i am reading your ticker correctly you have lost over 70lbs since 8/24/10. you are doing excellently i could only hope for such good results after i'm sleeved. i am 20lbs heavier than when you started and if i could even loose 50lbs in the time that you lost 70lbs i would be extremly greatful. don't be so hard on yourself, you are doing great. keep up the good work and congratulations.

Stopped Losing:(
hey dianne just a question are you exercising? i read that alot of people who have been sleeved don't seem to be big on the exercising. not everyone but quite few people said they don't exercise at all. if you don't maybe add some type of workout to your day and you should get a better result. now if you already workout then maybe you are just having a stall which i've read is very normal. good luck with you journey and God Bless

Scared silly
Girl i know exactly how you feel and i am no where near a surgery date. i am only three months into this thing and that's all i can think about. my dr. told me i should have a date sometime in february it's only october and i am scared to death. i think we are all are scared of the unknown. at least you have a little over a month to worry, i have four whole months to be on pins and needles. to answer your question i think what we both are feeling is absolutely normal. best of luck and God Bless.

back to work
Good morning everyone question, how long did you take off from work. i'm trying to decide if i need to sign short term disability papers for when i am out or not. i thought maybe i could just put in for two weeks vacation and should be good with that. what do you think is that unreasonable to think i would be ready in two weeks to go back to work. how long were some of you guys out.

Is it wrong to keep it a secret?
hi i'm with you it is a secret of course i told my husband and he is very supportive. i told my mom and my sister (she wants to be sleeved as well) but no one else. i have not told my co-worker or any of my closes friends. i'm just starting and have not been approved by my insurance company yet either but i don't want any of the negativity. it would not change my mind but i just don;t want to hear it. i told the people that i think need to know at this point. my husband, my mom, my sister and my kids. I do think you need to tell someone because you may need someone assistance post-op. tell your boyfriend if he cares about you it will be important to him because it is important to you. best of luck and God Bless.

VSG in May 2009 -- not happy with myself
hi Shannon first thank you for being so real. it feels really good to get on this site and hear all the success stories but with everything it's not always a success. i have not had my surgery yet but you are going through exactly what i have been thinking about. will i be able to do the right thing even with the sleeve. it's not just about the tool it's about your mind and your will. i know you want to do the right things but you mind tells you other wise. i not really a big eater but there are things that i know i will have to leave alone period can i do it i don't know. i'n not a really big snacker but ice cream is my down fall. i would give up food if it meant i could eat ice cream when ever i wanted. i know it will take everything in me to leave it alone. you can do the same with the bread, there's proof you can do it you have lost about 70 pounds already so you know what it takes. keep you head, stay focus and use your tool. you will be just fine.

mixed up
hello everyone first i must say i am not feeling the new format of the site, i just joined and was just getting use to the way things were and wala today it's all changed. oh by the way i changed my post name to thickinphilly it use to be pennick i just officially joined on friday. anyway i think there is some type of mix up because i received a few email from people congratulating me on losing 100 pounds and i have not even been sleeved yet. i don't know if thats wishful thinking on someone part but as i said friday i am just starting my journey and have not lost an ounce yet. oh to give you guys and update i told you i had all of my pre-op testing well with my upper GI they found that i have an ucler which i'm not really sure what that means in the way of my surgery. i have to have an endocomy i think that what it's called to see what stage my ulcer is in and i guess we will go from there. that appointment is tomorrow i hope this doesn't hold me up in any way.

new to the site
Hey everyone i just found this site yesterday and i have to say your experiences have been so encouraging. i am just starting my journey and have not had my surgery yet, i don't even have it scheduled. I did however have all of my pre-op testing done and with just that i am so excited. you guys have answered a lot of my questions and given me insite on so much. according to my dr. (dr. soriano at temple university hospital of phila) i should be scheduled in february some time and i will certainly keep you guy posted. question can someone tell me what the drain is all about. i don't recall that being mentioned in office visit or my seminar.
