    Self fulfilling Prophecy?

I just got that book. And Jasmine, you are totally normal- I got banded and lost half the weight I need to and sat stuck for MONTHS because it is like I am so convinced I am not going to make it, that I am not. So I went in last week and I talked for a long time to the nurse (who also had to unfill me a bit because I had gotten so overfilled I was pretty much only eating soft stuff- I was convinced that if I kept the band tighter I'd HAVE to stay on track. Ummm. learned that lesson the hard way). Anyhow, she suggested the Beck Diet Solution and I am reading it. I was 220 when I got banded, got down to 181 and then went back up to 190. My goal weight is 140 so I have 50 to go. If you need a buddy or anything maybe we can help each other, I am so glad you posted this, I wondered if I was the only person out there who created negative self fulfilling prophesies. But you know what, that works the other way as well- we can turn that around to successful beliefs....

I agree- I think this next fill is going to be it for me, but if it isn't I will keep trying. The band is a great tool but I am not going to miss out by being to lazy to pursue the sweet spot.

    January Bandsters???

:hail: great job- good for you! 4 pounds that fast- that is so good. as for being sad- I know how you feel, I get the same way. but you know we're all here for you so hang in there and when you feel sad consider doing something nice for someone- it always makes me feel better. I'll pray for you, too.

    January Bandsters???

good to hear you are out there still but sorry you got stuck having to wait for a fill- 90 days? how dumb are they- they pay for the tool (the band) then won't let you adjust it to work. I am glad you can get a fill now. on the bright side, you are doing awesome with your eating- :clap2: I can't believe the willpower and progress (I am sure not there yet).
  5. Hi there, I am 2 months out from surgery and feel like I am making less than perfect choices with my eating. I am 'winging it' and since I have had 3 fills and not gotten to a sweet spot yet with my fills, I am maintining my weight I have kept off the 15 pounds I lost during my first 2 weeks but lost no more, despite exercise...) Soooo- I wonder if any of you will be kind enough to share what you normally eat for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I think if I get a better idea of exactly what others are eating on an average day it would help me formulate an eating plan. :help:

that is a good point, and just being more active is a victory.. the other night I started mowing the lawn and after about 25 minutes I remember when I tried to do it last year and I practically threw up I was so dizzy and sick from being too out of shape.

    January Bandsters???

Thanks, I totally agree. Plus, I think that the pizza slid down without needing much chewing (I try to remember but I knew my bites were too big) was a good example that I am not tight enough. I made the remark so she'd remember- will power didn't get me here and it is something I am learning but I what I am seeking from the band is a tool for satiety and smaller amounts of eating, which isn't working. I asked her how much she had lost (I knew she had one) and she said 80 pounds when she got her band 6 years ago. I asked if she remembered how hard it was to change years and years of bad habits, especially while waiting for your new tool to get adjusted to where it does its job. She was quiet about that topic and I think it sunk in- we are all different and this is a process.... not an easy cure!

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

I have only slimed once and I was at lunch with friends - suddenly there was terrible pain (too big a bite of chicken the morning after a fill) and then all of a suddent it was a tsunami of slime then the chicken ejected right back out- no burp, no throwup, it was like a CD getting ejected out of a CD player. grossest thing ever! I stepped out of the dining room thank heaven because the look on my face was pure shock! :omg:

thank you so much, Julie- I cannot tell you how much it means to hear that others struggled slowly as well. I know we are not supposed to compare ourselves to others but sometimes it is how we know what we need to tweak or improve.

    Can't take it anymore!

that is horrible- I am so sorry... I'll keep my fingers crossed that you will find a solution.
  11. thank you so much... that is interesting, if I get one more fill (my 4th, which should take me over 3 CC and am still where I am now, I am going to ask for a flouro fill... shoot, my insurance pays for this- I should ask them for a flouro fill now. It can't hurt to ask. I love that restriction may sneak up on me... I WISH it would!!:biggrin1:

This is helping so much, thanks so much for the ideas....:clap2:

    Can't take it anymore!

Hey there- I am SO sorry to hear how bad you are having it. I think your stomach is swollen from the PBing and you are trapped in a cycle- stomach swollen, causes PBing and sensitivity... sensitivity and PB ing causes more swelling and so on. First I'd get rid of any fill you have- get it all out of there and go back to letting your stomach heal. Then I would get tiny fills- never more than .2 oz at a time... who knows, maybe you are one of those people who never needs a fill, the band is enough. I wonder if he put in too small of a band.
  14. I am learning the art of patience as well- trying to be patient in finding my sweet spot. Last fill was .4 which felt like nothing- the one before that was .75 and my first fill before that was 1.5... I go in next week for another... I hope it gets me closer. I keep wondering if they are getting any in there! I am sure they are but boy would it be nice to have some evidence.

My problem is that I lost all the weight during the first 3 weeks, when my stomach was swollen and now I am stuck there- I assumed I'd put all that back on and I haven't, but no more has come off... I will just have to be patient...

thanks- sometimes I read these boards and people are making so much more progress than me, I feel like I am a failure. I am really taking a hard look at my eating (tomorrow I start journaling every bite I take) and next Wed I am going back in for another fill... I hope that one gets me closer... it will be my 4th fill.

what do you usually eat each day?

typical is oatmeal or slimfast for breakfast, chicken and rice for lunch, and usually whatever the family has for dinner - chicken breast and salad and a roll or chicken sandwich. I do snack, sometimes cheese or something (string cheese) but I have been bad about sweets between meals. Not nearly as bad as before the band, but not avoiding them like I should be. I think the portions are what is killing me- I think I am keeping off the initial 15 or so pounds (15-18 off, I waver around) because I am exercising now and eating better foods (usually) but I think I am not losing any more because I am still eating too much... I hope that makes sense. Regardless, I am obviously not where I should be on fills because I am hungry a lot and am not feeling full, even when I eat solids (I am trying to avoid mushies). Effective tomorrow I am going to start journaling everything I eat.

    January Bandsters???

Okay, when I went in for my second fill I had a different nurse and I told her I was able to eat pizza, etc and was worried about my band having slipped or broken or something and she said "how did pizza end up in front of you" (as if to say I should be making better choices, which I already KNOW :huytsao ) and so I replied in the same tone "well, how do you think I GOT HERE?". ugh- I know i am not perfect but 3 fills and I can still eat pizza, bread, etc and portions that are too big- she can't blame me for being worried. Of course, reading on the main lap band board it says that some people have to get a number of fills so I think the key is not to give up- to keep going until you get enough fills to be in the sweet spot... I have to keep on trying....

that helps a ton- I know what you mean about having to make yourself stop on things like lentils... I love them but have to tell myself to stop on mushies or I will keep shoving it in. you are making good good progress- I looked at your signature... you should be proud

what do you usually eat each day?

thanks, Annie that does help. I just really need to see a few people's eating habits so I can get some ideas
  21. well, I exercised 15 days in January, which is over 50%... not as good as I should do maybe but this is more than I have done in at least 7 years... so I am proud of me. I only count things over 20 minutes straight like brisk walking, etc. My Feb goal is to exercise more than I did in January.

when did you get your band? I got mine Jan 31 and I have had 3 fills (2.65 cc total) and feel barely any restriction too... I am not losing anything at all and am working out very very regularly. I know we can't compare ourselves to others but I feel a little crazy- has my band broken off? is it even there?

    January Bandsters???

Hi, all- I have not been on here much, computer was down and then I had a rough couple weeks (sick, etc). Anyhow, I have had 3 fills and still don't think I am to the 'sweet spot'. I had 1.5 cc put in in 6 weeks after surgery the following week I got .75 cc more the following week I got .4 more (for a total of 2.65 cc) I am still down the original 15 pounds but just seem to hover there despite exercising more than I have in 6 years (at least). I am eating much better and surely less than before surgery but still feel like I am stuck. Has anyone else had this happen? Am I just being impatient? I keep thinkin I broke my band or something because I am totally hungry and keep eating. :hungry: I am making better choices but not great ones- I just don't feel full...
  25. How long did you have to wait after surgery for your first fill? I am 4 weeks out on Wed and my Surgeon's office says 6 weeks... but I notice some people on here get them at 4 weeks. Does it have to do with BMI? Or just different surgeons?
