  1. I had my WTH moments the next day due to all the pain. And it lasted a few days. Now it's "Thank God I had this surgery". Time seems to drag when you are on all liquids. Once you move to soft and regular foods time flies.

    Countdown to May 10th

I tried many different Protein drinks bot pre mixed and powder to mix with skim. The only one I like is sugar Carnation Instant Breakfast. If you need it pre prepared for wor just measure it out and mix it all in a gallon jug. Shake well before each use and it's fine. They make premade Carnation and the sugar free is easy to find in chocolate but it's impossible to find in strawberry. The only place I could find those flavors in sugar free was through the Nestle web site. I ordered a case which is a little more than you need for the liquid preop. But you will need it post op also. There are also different web sites with Protein Shake recipes that are really good.

    Weight gain after surgery?

I was shocked to learn that I had gained 4 lbs post-op. The nurses told me this is normal due to the fluids from the ivs. They said many RNY patients gain 20 lbs. It does come off fast because it is fluid related.

    Banded Plication

My insurance would not cover the sleeve. So I chose the band over plication. The results are comparable to that of the sleeve. Do your research, talk to your surgeon and choose the surgery that you feel is best for you. I have heard that many insurances are reluctant to cover plication since it is a relatively new proceedure.

    GPS Update: Important new information

I got the band over plication as a first step in my weight loss journey. Once I lose 100 to 120 I will convert to RNY. The reason being this surgery is less invasive. So, by losing this weight first, it will make RNY safer for me since I have an extremely high BMI. I know there can be complications with any of these surgeriesa. I did a lot of research and I feel I chose the best surgeon for me. That's why I am willing to make the drive 3 1/2 hours each way to my appointments. They have an excellent staff as well. Everyone there is amazing. I am hoping for a good outcome. But I know if there are problems my surgeon will be able to resolve them.

    Gastric Sleeve Plication

I had lap band over plication in early January. It was done by Dr. Schauer at the Cleveland Clinic. I have had no complications so far. Best of luck to you.
  7. I was very nervous, too. I almost backed out due to nerves the week before surgery. I am so happy now that I went thrugh with it. Recovery was slow and steady. I was up and shopping within four days. I used a wheelchair so that helped. Had lots of nausea. That was the worst side effect. They gave me meds which helped. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'm happy to help as much as I can.

  8. Best wishes on a speedy recovery and a fabulous new you.
  9. I've been there. It's totally normal to be nervous. I came close to backing out the Friday before surgery. So happy I didn't. All went well and it was over before I knew it. Thinking of you today and wishing you a speedy recovery.

    GPS Update: Important new information

I am so happy to have found this forum and to find someone with the same surgery as me. It seems to be pretty rare. I just got my second fill Wednesday. I have a total of 4cc and I am feeling good restriction now. I have been lucky enough not to have any problems so far. The plan is for me to lose 100 to 120 lbs then convert to RNY. This is due to my higher weight and the risks of a more invasive surgery.

    Almost my turn!

Hope all went well and you are doing great.

    back from Ohio

I'm two months out and I still worry. That's normal. There are days when I feel I can eat more and others where I don't feel very hungry at all. I have learned that eating slower helps. Best of luck to you.

    GPS Update: Important new information

I got banded plication on 1/10/11. I am so glad I have finally found someone who has heard of it. I feel like the redheaded step-child of WLS. I wanted the sleeve but my insurance did not cover it. hey did however cover the band so we went with banded plication. It's a learning process. I've lost 30 lbs since surgery. It seems to be coming off faster now that I have been able to start exercising the past couple of weeks. I am in the mid 400s and this walking thing is new to me. lol

    1 month follow-up appointment

    Finally broke my stall!!

Congrats on saying good-bye to the 260s! It seems like I always stall when I am close to breaking into a lower bracket. It seemed like I would lose great then I'd hit a pound above the number I wanted to get below and stay there for a week or two. the first one was getting below 500. I stayed a couple pounds above forever. But when I went below it was by several pounds. This last one was getting below 450. I was at 458 then 453 then 451 then, all of a sudden I hit 443 then 440. 300s here I come. Hopefully breaking that magic number will keep you motivated and show you that you can do it.
  17. Thanks. It's great to be here. I finally found a forum where there are other people who have had the same surgery as me.

  18. I am the exact same way. I have a very small Breakfast and lunch along with a couple of small Snacks throughout the day and I am full after each meal. But, at dinner, I can eat much more before I feel full. I have an appointment with my surgeon tomorrow and I this is one of the things I am going to ask him about. Also there are days when I don't feel much restriction. Then there are days when I have a lot of restriction.
  19. I had gastric plication on January 11. My surgery and experiences are some what different because I also got the lap band on top of plication. The combination of the two has been done only a few times and it's still experimental I haven't had any major problems so far. But, like others have said, if you feel full don't take another bite. Eat slow and chew good. I have a follow up and band fill tomorrow. I am excited to see what my surgeon has to say about my progress. I traveled 3 1/2 hours away for my surgery. I was in the hospital 2 1/2 ays. Then I stayed in a hotel for the next 2 days in case there were any problems or complications. Many on other boards have talked a lot about this surgery not being reversible because they have heard that the stomach folds fuse together. I was told by my surgeon that it is completely reversible. Our plan is for me to lose 100 to 120 pounds or then convert to RNY. He felt that, due to my high weight, this would be the safest way to go. I had lost 102 pounds pre-op by dieting with the help of my nutritionist and swimming. I've lost cose to 30 pounds post op. My progress is a bit slow. That is due to the fast that I am not very mobile. But with the weight coming off I am beginning to be able to walk so that will help also.

    GPS Update: Important new information

I had plication combined with the lap band at the beginning of January. I know the plication is new and experimental. And it in combination with the band is still quite rare. I did my research and chose a surgeon who is highly experienced in all of the proceedures. He has studied and done plication for quite a while. My first choice was the sleeve but my insurance would not cover it. So this was my plan B. So far I've had no complications and I hope I don't in the future. I believe finding the right surgeon is key. Do the research before going under the knife. And, if there are complications, make sure you choose a surgeon who can resolve them.
