    Eating out!

I just started my 4th post-op week, or the 2nd week of soft mushies, and I ate out for the first time since May 10th, the day before I started my official pre-op diet. I went to Bob's Big Boy and had a bowl of chili. Had no problems... even had 2 packs of crackers with it.
  2. I had one packet of cream of wheat.. It went down well... It was 3 oz of talapia and 4 oz of mashed potatoes and eating slowly, went well... It seems that with mushies I am not that restricted, but just having the food did satisfy me. Today I made a can salman puree, with a can of peas and carrots, light ranch dressing and curry powder. pureed in the magic bullet. It was 6 oz can of Sockeye Salman from costco and a 1-cup can of vegies. about 2 tablespoons of dressing. After pureed, I divided it into 3 servings. Had once just now for lunch and will have one other as dinner.
  3. Banded on 23rd. First day of "Mushees" had Cream of Wheat with a scoop of Protein Powder for Breakfast and mixed with Low Fat Milk... For dinner Talapia Baked in a foil wrap and then pureed with Mashed potatoes. It went well, no problems!

    do's and dont's

Here is a good site that has a lot if info including Do's and Don'ts http://www.lap-band-surgery-site.com/bariatric-eating.html
  5. Dr Burch... I really felt I had a bit of connection with him he made me feel very comfortable with my choices and decisions.
  6. 1 week post surgery. So I tried a BariWise portein drink today. I decided to use the Magic Bullet to mix the powder with water and some ice. It first came out all foam. I had a couple sips of the foam and turns out... that was a bad idea. Had pain and then a PB and was OK. Waited for it to settle back into drink form with no foam and all was fine. Just wanted to give people a heads up on that.
  7. I calculate from my first visit on this Journey... However Cedars Sinai Weight Loss Center mentioned that they don't use that weigh-in weight, but use the pre-op visit weight for their calculations... They just let me know that and told me I can go from whichever date I like myself, but be aware if I saw the descrepancy.
  8. Hi, I was banded a week ago on Monday the 23rd at 12 noon at Cedars Sinai. (Even live a few blocks from hospital) Still have some pain particularly at night but things are going down OK, on the liquids plus pureed Soup, yogurt, pudding phase. Did not have a hernia repair. Stayed overnight mostly to relieve stress on everyone, and 5 nights at my parents. Alway had energy an was walking the halls well by the next morning, making 4 laps of the floor. First night back was a bit scary, kept having muscle spasms, which I suppose where actually the walls of the stomach, got conerned enough to call the on-call Dr. at 3a. He suggested that perhaps it was because I was stretching the stomach by laying flat. I moved to a lounge chair and slept a bit more, but still had spasms/cramps in the morning and called again. This time they suggested giving it 24 hrs. Wednesda night was OK with only slight spasms. Still have the occasional spasm at night, but not as bad as that 2nd night and not in series. Can't really tell if I am getting hungry, or just having gas pains. Has first bowel movement Thursday morning after the surgery, after having warm prune juice on Weds night. Wounds are tender and itchy particuarly the port location. Have a nasty looking bruise right below bell button which is not near any incisions, not sure what is up with that. My first visit with Dr. is Wednesday.
  9. I was also banded on the 23rd. Doing OK, but it had gotten a bit harder to comfortably swallow liquids. I had a period of stomach spasms on Wednesday so perhaps caused some swelling. Anyway, to your question...You can try Optipure protein drink... It's a clear liquid protein drink in various flavors, of the two I tried, I like the melon one best. They are not shake like. 40 grams of protein in 20 ounces of fluid will get you on the way to the protein and liquid quota.
  10. So I got banded on Monday, stayed overnight and came "home" to my parents for a few days. On Tuesday I woke up to having series of stomach muscle spasming (like a charlie hose) They would stop and then start again. Called the on-call doctor, and he suggested that perhaps because I was lying in regular bed extending my stomach and to try sleeping somewhat upright. I moved to the lounge chair and got some more sleep, but still has some spasming in the morning, and bit throughout the day. Last night was better with it only happening once at about 12a, and I have been fine since. The only other thing was that all my muscles seemed very sore starting after surgery and the worse was also yesterday. I was up and about anyway, even went for a short walk. Today I am much better took a longer walk. Doing OK with liquids and Proteins, but it is a struggle. Last night I had Jello and a muscle milk light and I think things got a little stuck... perhaps I didn't chew the jello well enough. My only complaint now is that although I have been passing gas, I haven't had a bowel movement since Monday morning. Talked to the nutitionist today and she suggested that having warm prune juice this evening should do the trick, or try benefiber.
  11. Prune juice did the trick, but today I liquid is not going down as well as it did the first few days... I do manage some and it hasn't come back up since last night, but I can feel it slowly go down, even broth. It feels like the liquid is competed with burps for space, and I don't burp well, but everytime I sip I do burp a tiny bit. Hope things get better tomorrow.... Did get one pure protein shake and some broth today... working on a bottle of Isopure, but haven't got much of it.
  12. Very good to hear! Dr Burch is doing my Lap Band on May 23rd, and so far I find him to be intellegent comforting and responsive. I am looking forward to him doing the surgery and being my doctor. He and my Mom even bonded over being from Boston.
  13. Hi! Been looking at the forums off and on and its time for an intro. I started this Journey around Feb 10th. So far leading up to surgery I lost about 30 pounds. I was doing about 1500 calories a day to get ready. Now I am on the more restricted modified liquid diet of I guess just under 1000 calories. My Dr. is Dr Burch from the Cedars Sinai weight loss clinic in Los Angeles. I am both excited and nervous about the upcoming surgery. I guess my biggest worry is missing eating like I used to, but I am also ready to make the change.
  14. Thanks... The pre-diet is not so bad as long as I keep busy... Had a nice walk today, went to a book signing and met Betty White, spent the afternoon with friends. Posted a pic of me and Betty White on Facebook and got a nice complement on the weight loss so far.
  15. Got my date.. I am getting banded on May 23rd! Lost about 30 so far leading up to it!
