Yikes! I looked up some answers to that question and you're right, Judy....in most cases. I have a very long history of excellent credit so closing these two accounts shouldn't make much of a dent. Also, I don't plan on applying for any kind of credit or loan ever again, so it shouldn't be a problem in my case. But, in general, you are right...I should have just left them open to keep my good credit score perfectly intact beyond the next 10 years. (It doesn't really send up a red flag, it just eliminates good history from the report.) I won't close anymore. However, I just took such enormous pleasure in telling Chase Bank to "shove it". I've gradually moved all my business to Capital One and should have done so long ago!

Hi everyone - nothing grand to report here, just the usual. I did close two of my credit card accounts today! I took most of the bonus money I made last year that was just sitting in savings and paid a big chunk of my car off, then came up with a 'snowball' plan to get all my debt paid off (2 car pmts) by Aug 2010. I'm saving $2,500 in interest and paying them off THREE years early if all goes according to plan. This is very exciting for me! I have never NOT had debt!! When my mother's estate is finally settled and after the taxes are paid (bleh) I may even be able to pay them off completely before year end. I Dave Ramsey!! I also sent an email to my ex asking him to review my "kids budget" and see if we can make it more equitable. I'm most definitely paying more than he is. We'll see how that goes over! Ha! Evan went to see his psych today...she increased the dosage of his medications. Whew. He goes to see his therapist on Thursday. His car is in the shop getting repaired and I have an attorney working on getting his tickets 'fixed', so he's in better spirits as these problems are getting straightened out one by one. Granted, I've had to walk him through it and take care of some things myself, but that's ok...he's functioning quite well for now. He was really overwhelmed. We also dropped one of his classes for the spring semester so he's taking 12 hours instead of 15. Judy - I'm so proud of you for walking the straight line!! You must be thrilled with yourself!! Is Bobster walking it with you?

Denise, the trip is June 25-29! You should think about coming! The house is awesome!

Haydee/Tracy - I'm not paying for my airfare this month just because it's not in my January budget and I don't use credit cards anymore! $305 sounds like a fair price, though. I'll purchase in Feb or March probably. Haydee - if you don't mind driving in AL and renting the car, that'd be awesome. I did see Alamo full size for $15/day. you won't find a cheaper deal than that. Cost to cancel is $0, so might as well reserve at that price now!

**MAJOR CORRECTION!!** Sorry, everyone....For some reason I had it in my head that there were 12 of us splitting the cost of the Alabama house...but it's NINE! There's actually 10 of us, and then I forgot that Laura isn't paying. DUH!! So I've recalculated and the balance of what each of us will owe is about $195[edited to correct figure]..and yes, that's after the deposit is subtracted. I apologize for the confusion. It's just been a long while since I messed with any of that. I'll email you a link with the Google spreasheet that has all the pertinent info.

Oh, RIGHT! I forgot to subtract that! So it'll only be about $155!! Wooohooo!! Jane, We have ATT U-verse and we really like it! However, we did have quite a startup problem and had to have our dvr box replaced about 4 times!! So if it's not behaving like you expect it to, you can call their customer service number and they are actually very nice and very responsive!!! Such a change from our Time-Warner we had before. They were rated in the top 10 companies for the worst customer service...and I believe it!! I think you'll be very pleased with ATT. DVR is AWESOME!! :tongue2: Well, I essentially just got out of bed. I got up at 5:00 then went back to bed at 8:30, now up at 1:00p. :wub: Still in my jammies.

Well, i went online and looked up info on the Menninger Clinic which is one of the best....6-8 week program.....$1050 per DAY!! So, that's out. I did get his psych appt moved up to Tuesday rather than the 27th and also made an appt with a 'talk therapist' for Thursday. I went to see a girlfriend tonight and was giving her an update on Evan. Spewing it all out like that in one long timeline I realize he has had a VERY difficult past four months....he's had TEN fairly major negative events happen, any one of which is really enough to make him crater. So the fact that he is cratering now shouldn't surprise me!! He's going to stay with me for a few weeks and I'm going to keep him propped up as best I can. I think I can do a little better job of it than his dad....they just are too much alike and lock horns a lot lately. Evan and I get along really well for the most part and always have. He'll be okay and will get through this...but getting him to believe that is not easy. :grouphug:

I hope that's true, Tracy. It's hard to know what's best sometimes.... coddle him or play hard-ball. Coddling doesn't really "help" him....and hard-ball makes him crater into a puddle of tears. Doctor can't see him 'til the 27th. I think I'll go online and see about getting him into Baylor's program here in the medical center. Cutting edge research going on there. We've got some of the best care available in this city -- I suppose I should take advantage.
