  1. I have a quick question...so...I have this big hunk of fat on the back of my neck where my neck and back meet. Since I have been overweight since Jr. High...it has always been there. Will it go away??? Has anyone else had this??? On a side note - I've noticed that although I am still self-conscious about my weight - Recent;y I have kind of embraced it. Like when my family went to a Water park I was out there having fun, running (ok walking) around not caring like I used to because I know that soon I won't look the way I do. I find it ironic that for the first time I am - to a point - OK with my weight. Or well at least I accept it because I know/hope this weight is only temporary. I FINALLY FEEL LIKE I HAVE CONTROL!!!! Can't wait till June 20th!!!!! BRING ON MY SLEEVE!!! Thanks for listening/reading my ramblings....gotta love VST therapy! Kelly
  2. Hey There Mommy Tawnie - like people have said "don't take it personally". I know when I have a question (and I've had MANY) I will first do a quick scan of the boards and see if there is already a thread started with that topic and there USUALLY is. SO then I don't need to start a thread myself...just an idea Frustration sucks...hang in there! Good luck with your loss!
  3. great post!!!! Found this one VERY helpful....thanks ladies!
  4. AMEN!!!!! I have been feeling a little anxious about my surgery...which isn't until June...but THIS RIGHT HERE (well above is why!!!! I had a really crappy day yesterday and went through a drive-thru yesterday - like I do when I'm upset....and driving I realized "I won't be able to do this soon!" and then after I had that moment of sadness - I realized this is EXACTLY why I want the sleeve! I've got to change! Thanks for this post.....
  5. Well I have gone to my PCP all my life -well at least that office all my life...and he is very UNsupportive of any type of weight loss tools EXCEPT diet and exercise. About a month back when I went in to get a copy of some of my records I made an appointment to talk with him...and he told me instead of writing a letter in support of my VSG - he was going to give me a diet to try. I told him I had been given that diet twice before and it never worked. He said "Try AGAIN!" SO I found a new PCP!!!! She is great! Wants me to try a month of Adipex - but the greatest news is I just found out I DON'T NEED A LETTER from my PCP. My surgery is scheduled for June 20th and I think I may write a letter to my old PCP explaining why I left and that I just needed SUPPORT! I don't know...My point is: You will want your PCP "on-board" so in the future you have someone who respects and understands your decision. tell her! then see if you need to find a new PCP!
  6. I had my psych eval YESTERDAY and it went great. I was honest about everything! I have been on anxiety meds for years and she said to be sure to keep taking them. Put it all out there!
  7. OH! And I'm having my psych eval today - so I will ask her as well. Love you fellow VSG'ers and wanna-be's like me!!!
  8. What my questions/concern is...where are the negatives? My sister is the one that keeps questioning me on this. She doesn't want me to have the surgery. I get that. She keeps telling me "You don't see all the people who have had it at work like I do". She is an Occupational Therapist. She says their not really thin, they've gained it a back. I know the risks and "sucky parts": 1. Death - huge I know. 2. A Leak - also very risky. 3. My head hunger issues will be brought out huge. 4. My "food to cope" tool will be gone! 5. possible acid reflux... 6. Gaining the weight back 7. not really losing anything I love this site because of the unconditional support and GREAT stories. But where are the people it doesn't work for? Where is their story? I'm a big BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY person.
  9. That's why I love this blog! Thanks everyone for your comments. I will get the script filled and I will give it a try...but I am in NO WAY doing this INSTEAD of my VSG. Myrori - I will write that list. I have my little "VSG Binder" that I have kept copies of everything and all the info I had to give the Bariatric Institute to be approved by them. So I'll add my list to my folder. My psych eval is Monday...I'm kind of excited....does that make me weird??? WIth the Psychologist think I'm weird??? Just kidding. But I am excited to have my eval done. One step closer. KinkySlinkyRN thanks for sharing your experience. Good to know before I try it.
  10. SOOO a while back I posted about my PCP being unsupportive. I have since found a new doctor and when making my appointment I asked the nurse about the PCP being supportive of WLS. She says that the office has patients that have had it. I met the new doc and LOVED her - however she wants me try a month on Adipex. My sister-in-law did Adipex and lost like 50 pounds - and now she gained it all back and then some. I know that I will too when I stop taking it. My VSG is scheduled for June 20th and I don't need a letter from my PCP - she just has to sign off on my surgery. SO I guess I'm just venting and asking your opinions. This forum has been great for info, reassurance and support.
  11. I agree it's crap - but maybe it is something important you need to know about before surgery. Yes the timing sucks - but thank God you can get in first thing tomorrow. Keep looking up!
  12. SOOOO great to hear! I am getting Sleeved June 20th and was worrying about just what you talked about. THANK YOU!
  13. OH how I can relate! I actually started my 1st thread on here about my mom and sister not being supportive. My husband is behind me 100%, my mom seems to have accepted it - even though she doesn't like it and I still have yet to talk with my sister again after our first blow out. It is up to YOU. Find that support system outside your family if you need to! You do what's best for you! Hang in there - make your decision and take whatever else comes with a smile on your face because soon you will be healthier and happier!
  14. Hey and don't worry too much about those "big girl panties" - pretty soon we'll all be in pretty "little panties"!!!!
  15. WOW!!!! Way to go! Very inspiring!!!
  16. Congrats!!!!! Awesome NSV!
  17. WELL! I was give a new diet to follow for the next 3 weeks...I told him I had been given it before and he said to try it again. I am VERY FRUSTRATED!!!! I meet with my surgeon tomorrow and I guess I'm going to find a new PCP. I asked him "so you're not going to write the letter?", he said "I don't like to, but we'll see in 3 weeks." UGHHHHH!!!! Oh well...
  18. SO I went to my PCP's office to request my medical files and get my letter written from him supporting my VSG. My insurance will completely cover the procedure with this documentation. I got the files - NO PROBLEM. However, I knew that my PCP is not in support of anything except diet and exercise to lose weight. In the past I have discussed weight with him and asked for appetite suppressants. The nurse who was getting me my records assured me it would be "no problem" and that my PCP would write the letter. Later that day when I got home from work there was a call on my answering machine telling me my PCP wanted to see me. SO I have my appointment today. Has anyone else had this experience. My VSG peeps told me I could always change PCP's, but I would really like to stay with mine. I've been going to him for 15+ years. Any comments or experiences would be appreciated. (This awesome forum has set my mind at ease before!) Thanks! Kelly
  19. Now I haven't had my surgery yet...but what I've gathered from my new obsession "VSG-er stalking" lol....You/we will FOR SURE lose the weight to begin with...but the maintenance and how much we lose will be up to us and our choices. Youtube has been very informative in actually seeing people and what they have gone through. Many post every week and you even see them when they are having a bad day. I too have tried everything...this is it for me! Hope my ramblings helped.
  20. TOTALLY!!!! I love the "Food Funerals" too! I am trying for the most part to get my head on right for what is to come. I am going to give up pop for Lent and then just let it go completely...
  21. It's sad though isn't it? I figure I will tell my mom after I meet with the surgeon and ask if she wants me to tell her about my appointments and stuff or not bring it up. It just makes me furious because I feel the most judgment from MY family...But I am going to do it FOR ME!!! ( and my kids
  22. SO I know it was GREAT that my mom went to the seminar with me - HOWEVER - she spent the majority of the time working on something else and not paying attention. Then in the car ride home she said "I didn't like this..." and " I didn't like that" and every time my husband and I would correct her. UGH!!!! Oh well! I am ready!!! Can't wait till the 29th to meet with my surgeon!
  23. I went to the Michigan Bariatric Institute seminar last night. They answered a few more questions that I had...now I have to wait until the end of the month for my surgeon appt, and I know there will be MUCH MORE waiting after that!!!! I know I need to be patient - but I am READY....let's go!!!! Just venting...THANKS!!!
  24. Looking for a surgeon for my VSG in the metro detroit area...Anyone have any experience with Zeni?
