    Need a buddy/mentor!

Hi I'm a 31 y/o stay at home mom from Texas looking for someone who can help guide me through this journey successfully. My starting weight was 256 and I'm currently at 240 according to my scale at home. My surgery date was April 22, 2011. My weight loss seems to be a slow one and tends to go up and down daily. My goal weight is 150 lbs so I have 90lbs to go. Looking for someone to text/email or Facebook for support. Thanks for reading and looking forward to meeting any buddies/mentors soon. Thanks! Jae
  3. Hi everyone! I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and have been on solid foods for the past week. I've been following the 3 meals a day 60+g of protein and exercising throughout the week. My weight has been fluctuating up and down by 5lbs every other day and can't seem to break this cycle. I go for my first fill on May 23rd and hoping this will help a little. I've read a lot of posts about not worrying about weight loss right now but it's so frustrating when you do things the right way and you still get punished for it. Sorry for venting but was just wondering if anyone else is/has gone through this.

3 1/2 weeks out and weight is yo-yoing

Thanks for your feedback Reverie! I'm sure I've read that several times I guess I was to stubborn to believe it since I am pushing myself to eat right and exercise. I guess the best bet is to hide the scale for now. I hope to see some results soon. Thanks again!

Let's keep track! How much did YOU lose in APRIL?

Hi April bandsters! I was banded on April 22nd and have lost 16lbs but am disliking bandster hell because my weight fluctuates up and down 5lbs. First fill not until May 23rd. :-( hoping I get some kind of restriction.

    Cheat foods not bothering me?!

Welcome to "bandster hell"! As tempting as it is to cheat while you're going through your stages should be avoided at all costs. You've spent the time, money and effort to go through this surgery to make a change in your life so don't cheat yourself. The band doesn't control what you put in your mouth just offers you appetite control once you start getting your fills. Right now it's all about will power. You're probably thinking if I had will power to begin with I wouldn't need the band right? Some people have restriction without needing a fill. If you have restriction now it's more than likely from the swelling once the swelling subsides you'll be able to eat a lot more but will need to control how much you eat. Let your body heal and dont worry too much about weight loss for the first 6 weeks. Good luck to both of you on your journey.

1 week out still really tired!

Hi Teekii77 I was banded on April 22nd and have also experienced being tired and still to this day. I'm pretty much tired of being tired. I spoke to my nutritionist and surgeon about this and had drawn some labs to check for anemia so hopefully I'll find out if I'm lacking iron. In the meantime they gave me some sample iron pills and my nutritionist advised me to continue taking my multivitamins, calcium citrate and to add a super B complex and B-12. It seems like alot to take but I'll let you know if it makes a difference for me. Get your iron checked that could be the culprit! Good luck to you! Jae

    Energy Level

Hi all I was banded on April 22nd and have had a very hard time lately trying to stay active. All I want to do is sleep because I feel weak. I take my multivitamins and calcium supplements daily. I was wondering if this is normal or has anyone experienced this? Not to mention I've been non stop cycling since the day of surgery which was odd because I had my TOM a week before surgery. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

WTH WHY is my hair thinning?

It may be from the stress of surgery on your body or just stress in general. I too have had thinning of my hair and was told it would happen due to the surgery. It was recommended to eat at least 60g of protein daily and to try biotin. Your hair will eventually start to grow back over time.

    Energy Level

Thank you all for your advice! I had a follow up appt. with my nutritionist and advised of her my weakness and constant bleeding so they ordered a CBC anemia lab and gave me some iron pills to take in the meantime so hopefully that helps. She also recommended taking a B-complex and possibly having a D&C per the surgeon. On another note I'm excited to finally get to eat soft/solid foods. Thanks again for all your support as my journey continues.

    April 2011 Bandits

Hi millypili congratulations on being banded. I was banded on the 22nd. I didn't experience the shoulder pain like you are but I did have discomfort with the gas in my chest making it hard to take deep breaths. The best thing that I would recommend would be a heating pad and keep walking the gas will eventually go away. The liquid diet stinks but is needed to heal. I survived this week with my Protein shakes (Bariatric advantage) crystal light, Water, hot decaf tea and jello. I'm on the pureed stage now and that's been the hardest for me. I mainly have creamy Soups along with the Protein Shakes, yogurt and water. Things will start to improve as the days go by. Good luck to you on your journey!

    Surgery Question....

You're completely naked under the gown. I asked the OR nurse if you are completely exposed during surgery and she said no that your top is covered and your lower is covered by a blanket. The only thing exposed is your belly for surgery and yes they do place a catheter while under. You won't even remember the surgery so it shouldn't be a big deal.
  18. Hi wheeler how are you coming along? Hope all is well!

  19. Not liking the pureed stage can't wait til soft foods!

    April 2011 Bandits

Hello fellow April bandsters! I was banded on April 22nd with a hiatal hernia repair as well. The first 4 days were the worst due to gas pains under my sternum. I felt like I couldn't take deep breaths without cringing in pain. I tried sleeping away the days just to get by. I was on a liquid diet for the first 5 days now days 6-12 I'm suppose to be on the pureed stage. I've found myself not eating as much and afraid I'm not getting all my protein in. Soups are going to be my new best friend for this week. I have a total of 4 incisions 2 that don't look that bad but the other 2 have a ring of skin bubbled up around them which I'm hoping will go away once the glue falls off. I have a follow up appt. With the dr. On May 2nd so I'll have an official weigh in then since my scale at home is different. My beginnig weight was 256 ,day of surgery was 246.6. I didn't lose much pre-op because I suffered from "last supper syndrome". Well that's been my journey so far. Look forward to hearing from everyone regarding their journey and any helpful tips would be appreciated. Good luck fellow April bandsters!
  21. 13 hours to go before I check in to the hospital and my nerves are killing me. I have to check in at 5:30am with a surgery time of 10:15. The closer the date has come the less sleep I've had. I struggled with the 2 week pre-op liquid diet, I guess you can say I had the "last supper syndrome." I will have to have a hiatal hernia repaired while in surgery. Since I had a difficult time during pre-op I hope I won't fail the band. Looking forward to a new and healthier me. Does anyone have any suggestions on a chewable multivitamin that doesn't taste awful? I've already tried the vitaband mixed berry one and I don't think I can stick with that one daily without gagging. Would love to hear other shared stories.
