  1. Ima! That sounds awful. I think putting the scale away, and keeping up on your 5:2 is just the ticket. In two weeks things will look much better! Im fasting today as well, We can do it!
  2. Glad your back on track Globe!
  3. Three miles is great! And elevation is that much better! Good work! I was at dance class tonight (wed and fri) We had a scare last week, we don't have enough students and the boss threatened to cancel the class... I had to think about what I would do if the class was canceled. The majority of exercise I do is my dance class and a walking class I lead twice a week (around 2 miles, with 6-9 adults with disabilities) I love both of these classes and they are my regular exercise... I also started birding in May... and walk around 2-3 miles two or so times a week with that. I HATE it when I have to exercise... but I love moving when its something I love. I have had to identify those things that I love to do. If those things were not right there and motivating.... I might just sit on the couch too.... like I did around 5 years ago when I turned 55, and realized I could hardly get off the couch and needed to make a change. The exercise was not enough for me to lose the weight, so thats when I went for the sleeve... the second tool in the toolbox.
  4. Do check out the Vets forum... many in the same boat working to get to goal or lose those reagained pounds. I never got to goal (close...) and had a22 pound regain... I am almost down to my origional low... using the 5:2 with lots of success and not too hard to follow. Sorry about your regain, please try this before you go under the knife, it might just do the trick! joly, seriously relax, you don't feel that much restriction until you are at solids. Even if you cant feel "full" don't eat till you feel full, eat by measuring and counting calories. You had nerves cut in your stomach, and you may not be able to feel full yet, until you actually heal up... maybe quite a bit later! Just slow down and follow your Docs and Nuts advice. Also, at 2-3 weeks many people go into a LONG stall (the 3 week stall its called) Mine lasted 4 weeks! This is normal! Just hang in there. Things will move soon.
  5. Don't laugh, my dad talked a plastic surgeon into giving him a rate for doing him and my mom! (him and her face lifts)
  6. Are you telling me that the dreaded stall can happen while you are on the blessed 5:2!!!? BUMMER!! (Old hippie talk....) I have been lucky so far, but I'm sure its only a matter of time, I had a TON of 2-3-4 week stalls before the 5:2.
  7. :D that cracked me up! I belly dance... and my totally fit teacher tells me that I have a very good core, and control over my abdominal muscles.... but a BIG however.... when I do hip bumps, the old stomach just stays there, hiding my movements.... but will keep moving on its own when I stop the hip bumps! My butt also love to move without me asking it too... like a bowl full of Jello in an earthquake!
  8. I think you look fantastic! And your mom is a doll, she looks really sweet! You know, when you let yourself feel proud of your accomplishments, and proud of the body that lets you do so much... it shows. It shows in how we dress, hold ourselves upright, how we move and how we laugh! When we can OWN our body and life, we shine!
  9. ...so I lost another .1 pound today. Its like finding a penny on the ground, eventually they will add up to a dollar! Here is an idea for next time. (and you know there will be an next time) Take two chocolates, wrap them up and put them in your desk. Save them for tomorrow, because on this plan you can do that! What? Did I miss some horrible thing you did?
  10. I mostly use Stevia, but the studies are saying that ANY sweet taste will trigger the bodies hormone response to sugar... so it may still cause insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome..... Its the sweeting of our food in general, whatever kind that is the problem , not the chemical composition of the sweetener..... BIG SAD FACE. I am trying to just cut some of my sweet choices during the day... I used to like unsweetened ice tea.... not any more! I'm working on getting back to that.....
  11. Fast was around 575.... seems to still work for me, I usually eat pretty light the morning after. Lost my bounce--- to .2 pounds under my 5:2 low. Only .4 pounds from the 170's.... I'll get there yet! It feels so good to feel like there is hope that what I'm doing will work! And really, the BIG point of this is better quality of life into old age....
  12. My husband is starting ADF but has never "dieted" so we will see. He has good intentions.
  13. Fasting today, so far so good. This morning was up a little, but If I can knock off 1.3 pounds this week, I will be in the 170's, new numbers which is a little voodoo boost for the morale. If not this week, then perhaps next! My all time low after WLS was 174... so heading in the right direction. Vacations coming up, so I really am motivated to stick with this now.
  14. Yea... thats my man! So he decided that he would just eat fruit and veg every other day. He started out well in the AM, then we went to a potluck... He was sitting there looking round, really lost with all the food. I feel for him, he has never had to practice impulse control really.... I was eating (sorry honey, I told you my fast days were mon and ths) and I got a veggies burger. I know I can't eat the whole thing, so I offered him half, all verggie and not far from his plan. He ate it, but then.... when he got home the deal was off. He kept going to the fridge, the impulses that make one do that were in charge. It doesn't take that much for him to lose weight, so maybe that will be enough... hope so. Hes a contrarian, and I have to make suggestions so he thinks he thought of it himself or he resists! I know how I felt when others made suggestions about how I should eat....
  15. So after my husband gave me a load of **** yesterday about talking about "dieting" all the time and who cares and get a life and such, he said he needed to lose some weight and improve his liver. (he's a big strong guy with a ton of muscles and a pretty unhealthy eating habit-about 30% fat) I had sent him a link to the life extension program that the 5:2 plan was started from... and he actually queued it up and we watched it together. I gave him the the book, and he said " I don't need that" but I left it lying around anyway just in case he wants a look see when Im not in the room! (stubborn?) His answer is that "You cook everything for me and I will eat it." But the problem there is he hates about half of what I cook, and has told me so in no uncertain terms, and so I don't cook much for him- except a few things I know he likes- or he will eat the measured out healthy food I have cooked, then belly up to the snack bar and make a stack of cheese/jam sandwiches with a side of mashed potatoes or something. The man is a trained chef, so I don't feel too bad letting him cook for himself, but he has no self control or motivation.... (there is a twinkle there of wanting to get more healthy and improved energy- fingers crossed!) So I have a scale that measures body fat, and he set it up to check his, and figured out I had mine set as a male! He changed that for me...(boohoo, my body fat measurement went from 25 to 30 ) I'm hoping there might be a hope in hell that he might be the right type for the 5:2 (eating what you want for 5 days a week!) and maybe if I cook for him two days a week, he might make it work) He can do what he wants, hes an adult, but I do worry about his "death wish" as far as his eating habits go... I want him to be healthy for as long as he has!
  16. I think its so important to log all that stuff, even when your off plan, or its hard to figure out the cals... just to remain conscious of the cost of any different situation, GOOD FOR YOU! Hoped you enjoyed yourself!
  17. OK, so when we lose body fat, the fat cells empty out, but are still present right? So I would think that there will still be more "mass"where the fat cells are, even if they are not being plumped up with as much fat..... (Miss not-a-scientist trying to be a scientist!)
  18. http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=56830 Experts rate the best and worst in body-fat measurement devices.
  19. I tried the calipers and they said I had body fat percent of 34.6.... average for my age...
  20. Discussion on the topic of loose skin and caliper use: http://www.myfitness...lipers-accuracy most on the thread said it would not make any difference (non of them had loose skin to start with!) and the two people who seemed like they might have a clue (fitness trainer and someone who had asked a professional) said YES it makes a difference... such as "I just had the caliper test and the hydrostatic testing (where you get dunked in the tank) and I asked about this (bc I'm curious like that). The tester told me that yes it will affect if its very loose skin like you had gastric bypass and have tons of skin all over otherwise no. And also the hydro testing in these cases is a better alternative."
  21. Have you guys been checking your body fat? The 5:2 claims that it reduces body fat better than other eating methods....my only record of my body fat percentage before starting 5:2 is from a Bod Pod test I had at about 8 pounds heavier (on my way down) 2 years ago.... it said I had a percentage of 36.9 (excess fat-not that good!) My scale here has a body fat setting... I don't know how accurate it is... I never have used it, until a couple of days ago... and again this morning... it says 25.9 percent fat! ( lean for my age!) Thats quite a drop from the bodpod...) I think I must have had at least some fat loss.... I'm going to try and keep track of the last 12-15 pounds and see if the body fat goes down more. I have some of those pincher things (calpers) that measure body fat too, I will dig those out and try them as well...
  22. Laura, do you think you could "pin" this topic? Thanks!
  23. All in all it looks like everyone is doing very well! Coops! A small! I will never get into one of those, I was in a large at my lowest after surgery weight. Just a big gal. You are doing awesome!
  24. Eating some extras today, had carrot cake from whole foods, and some stuff from their salad bar... so yum! Luckily I went kayaking today for 2 hours, and then will have dance class this evening. That should cover the calories, but its strange sitting here eating cake! EDIT next day- no weight gain, but the cake made me feel so yuck! When will I learn!?
  25. Down a little more. MFP asked me if I wanted them to reset my calorie and exercise goals because I have lost 10 pounds since the last time I did it.... NO thank you! Doing well as I am. I don't really want to lose faster than I am at this point. Unless I hit a giant stall, it will be off soon enough, and then we will see about the BIG M!
