  1. This pre-op roller coaster ride is the most unfair ride to be on. I started in Oct 29, 2010 by going to my first appt with WLS doctor. I was given a list of pre-op test to be done before I can call for my second appt with WLS doctor. For me I was requested to see the following: 1) LABS (Blood test/Urine) done 10/29/10 Cleared 2) Nutritional Consultation done 10/29/10 Cleared 3) Psychological assessment done 3/4/11 Cleared 4) Support Groups (2) 1st 2/1/11 5) Ultrasound done 1/15/11 Cleared 6) 6 month diet letter/PCP Letter Cleared 7) Cardiology done 1/26/11 Cleared 8) Neurology done 2/15/11 Cleared 9) Pulmonary done 3/28/11 So the first time I found out that I was not full informed about what was going on was in Dec 2010. I thought that I need to do 6 month diet I put off calling to schedule my appts. When I call the nutritionist to schedule another appt I was told I did not need the 6 month diet because my insurance did not require the wait. I was so mad that I was not clearly told this. So I started to get on the phone and make as many appts as I could. While waiting for my appts I kept going to my doctor to take car of my health like the diabetes, high blood pressure, Neuropathy in my feet, thyroids and anything else that was becoming worse as the days and wait went by. I started at 228 pound and now I am 240 pound and doing diabetic weight watcher diet with no cheating I have gained weight in stead of losing it. I was also put on an insulin pump to control my sugars better and I now take more medicine. So when I think things can’t get worse it does. I went to see the pulmonary doctor she told me that I need to do test before she could clear me for my WLS. She started to tell me that it may take 3 month before I could call the doctor for my second appt. I was holding back the tears. I was told to understand that it was for my own good. My own good, I thought that when I made the choice to have this surgery done that I was thinking about my own good! I guess she saw my face and suggest that she will put me her cancel list and call me to fill that spot. I went along with that but confused why I need a sleep study done. I never complained about any sleep problems. I have always sleep with my mouth open and snored because of it. Was never told I had a problem with stopping breathing at night. So when I went for the test I thought I was going to sleep like I do at home but that was not the issue they hook u up to a lot of things and tell you to sleep on you back. Well that was problem one because I sleep on my side. The bed was uncomfortable for me too. So I really could not sleep. When I finally went to sleep the tech came in and woke me up and put a machine that blows air in you noise and while this is on you can’t really open your mouth because the air hit the back of your throat which I found painful. They said this is because I snore and at times it is loud. Well I have always snored because I have always breathed through my mouth not my noise. Finally I am sad again that I now need to sleep with a machine. Crying because I am scared to go to the doctors, what else are they going to find wrong with me. Thinking about calling it quits.

  7. Well if you are ready been given this opinion sorry for repeating. Take a step back and stop trying to convince your wife to agree with your opinion. Sit her done and tell her i understand your worries because i don't want to lose you too. But if we keep this up we will lose each other. Why don't we try this diet plan together. I have tried your way lets give this a try. And go to couples counseling to help ensure her that once this change happens that you would stop loving her. It sounds like she is scared that you will not love her anymore when you lose the weight. Tat you would not find her attractive any more. I wish you the best of luck and remmind you of one thing that i am told all the time how can you take care of her if you don't take of yourself. It is about you. Take care of you so you are around to love her.
  8. After you check with them also check your states rule about the medicaid program. In NYS the medicaid program needs a *** provider and the providers set rules also. Good Luck
  9. Well I had a long day today and it was emotional too. I started this journey in Oct 2010. Starting and scheduling all the Pre-op surgery appt. My doctor requested that I see a Cardiology; Neurology; Pulmonary; Ultrasound; Psychological; Nutritional Consultation and Lab test. Then I was told that may need a 6 month diet for insurance. First got upset when I found out I did not need it and because no one told me this I decided to wait to schedule my appts. Well I got mad and started to call and schedule for appts. I was lucky in getting all my appts. by March 28, 2011 I was so happy. Today I got a hard blow again when I was told that it may take another three month because i need some test and the are booked for three month. I left the Dr's office crying and not knowing why this was happening. But I told the Pulmonary doctor that I am not in a rush and if I have to wait I understand but I am not doing this for a quick fix I need to do this because I losing my fight to the diabetes and I would like to put it to sleep forever. So she said I will put you on my cancel call list. Well I was suprised when i got the call that the last two test I have to do sleep test is April 1, and Breathing test is on April 11., then I can call for my second visit.Happiness again. Praying to have my surgery by May or June the latest.... Up Down around Up again Down Around can't wait to get off.
  10. Thanks for the advice I started to walk again last month and still can not walk far or long. At the first visit the doctor said that just walking is not exercising. So when should i start to add protein to soup or yogurt? Do know any of the brand name of these unflavored Protein?
  11. i am new too and have to wait too. On march 28th I have my last appt to clear me for surgery. I also have to wait for one more support group then i can call for my second dr appt. Good things come to those who wait. So excited and scared. Good luck
  12. Nice that you are looking out for others and are willing to network like this and if you are not to busy I am new can you send me one also liluco-69@hotmail.com
  13. I want to thank you for your post I am new to this and was looking for some answer to the many questions i have. I am sorry what happen but you should not be ashamed that you could not have your operation. But everything happens for a reason that is what I say. I want you to think about it this way, I finally was honest about myself and that is the first step to accepting this life change. I now know it is going to get better and follow instructions because I know my health counts. And if I don't take care of myself who will. But my thanks I really want to let you know because I am excited and scared about this. I feel that the requirements in the states is hard to deal with when you are doing alot of things and no one person is clear why you need to do this. I started this in Oct 2010 and though that i had to wait 6 months because of insurance but found out that my insurances does not require it so I have one my cleareance appt and support group to go to and then I will have my second doctors visit. Counting the days myself. Question what type of exercise were you doing and what type of diet were you required to follow? Good Luck that day will be here sooner than you know
  14. My name is Lilu I am 40 years old. In June 2010 I was reading a magazine talking how weight loss surgery could help me with my diabetes. In Oct 2010 I finally decided to talk to a weight lost surgeon and he suggest that I have the sleeve done. The reason I took these steps was because no matter what i did to control my diabetes it was still high and out of control. I start to have bad effects in my eyes and my feet. I also noticed that i had high blood pressure and was unable to exercise like i wanted too. So I have one more clearence appt. and have been trying to prepare myself for this life change I have had some set back in the prep.Due to part of my health has worsen cause of the diabetes i had stop exercising because my feet and back caused me pain. I still have questions that i have not got a clear answer for but hope that someone that has gone through this can give me their answer or their opinion. I will be schedule for surgery in May How do I work out to get myself back to exercising before and continuing after surgery? I have alot of food allergies and want to be able to finish more than three sips of the protien shake before i get the gaging reflex. How do i make it better tasting? How do you make the puree meal taste better?
