  1. Well I flew to TJ MX all by myself, went through surgery on Monday and flew back all by myself Thursday, went back to work Friday. I really didn't need any help but boy it sure was nice to have my loving wife there ready to do anything for me. Like Eureka said have someone at least pop in and check on you. Take your temp and see if you're in any pain. We all wish you the best!
  2. I think this effects males as well as females too. I know I went through some tough times with unexplained anxiety after surgery, Also on a side note - and I hope I don't offend. I have just been as horny as can be for about a month now. My poor wife has to put up with me. - if you know what I mean
  3. Stick with it. I went on the pre-op liquid diet for TEN days so 3 days should be a snap!
  4. Well like anything biological it's made of tissue and just about any tissue can be stretched if enough pressure is put on it for long enough. I doubt that it could recover back to it's pre-op size but me come close to a smaller version of a full size stomach. You need to exercise portion control and eat ONLY what you have determined you need for the day. It's a day to day process, one step at a time.
  5. We all wish you the best!
  6. hair thinning is pretty much a norm of most invasive surgeries along with drastic dietetic changes, as sometimes is the missed period. Please consult your surgeon or regular doc to make sure though, you may be anemic or deficient in some other Vitamin or mineral. The can run a blood panel to check, it's worth the peace of mind.
  7. GOOD NEWS! Glad to hear it and I hope you "beat the odds" from here on out. Keep us posted.
  8. I think it's true to say that everyone is different. While most have a life long restriction there are those that feel no restrictions or very little, you seem to of fallen into that group. While I was in TJ MX for surgery there was a gal there that had VSG and she was hardly restricted at all, she lost and the regained her weight. She was there for gastric plication to further reduce the size of her sleeve further, I don't know how she came out as she was scheduled after I left to return home.
  9. Congrats! I too use a CPAP and look forward to someday being without it. BTW: It's not strictly true that you can't get a new mask without an RX, I buy my online usually at this place: http://www.directhomemedical.com/ you can get masks, hoses, fitting etc.
  10. Has anyone else checked out this site: http://gastricbypass.netfirms.com/index.html It is full of horror stories supposedly due to WLS. A lot of it really sounds bogus, I'm sure that these people have suffered but is this ALL due their WLS? Are these extreme and rare situations? This seems so unlikely that begs credibility. What about people who have large portions of their stomachs removed due to disease? I remember 2 examples of entire families having their stomachs removed due to a genetic dispostition to getting a very nasty stomach cancer. They all seem to be doing fine. Many have had other seemingly benign surgeries and had troubles. As an example my brother went in for a simple bunion surgery and nearly lost his foot AND his life due to an MRSA infection, yet both my wife and I had the same operations (hers was actually much more invasive) and have had no problems and it fixed the problem.
  11. I must be one of the minority, 2 months post op and LITTLE tastes good. Sweets are especially sickening. Everything tastes different than it used to and Soups that I loved are pretty vile right now. Everything else tastes blah or even bad. Had my wifes spaghetti and meat balls Saturday and yesterday and WOW it was REALLY good, I loved it before and it is STILL one of my favorites. BTW: The spaghetti is spinach spaghetti with Hunts tomato sauce and a dab of honey. Plenty of chopped up Italian meatballs too. Even better the second / third day too.
  12. Boy I'm not sure what they used on me for pain meds but all I felt was nauseas and very, very thirsty. I NEVER really had any pain, just an uneasy feeling. Good post, made me laugh.
  13. I wish you well in finding out what it is, hopefully nothing and will pass soon. I had exactly the opposite reaction, my otherwise bumpy broken out skin got real smooth and cleared up nicely.
  14. I was done in TJ as well. You WILL get through this and it WILL work for you. Prayers lifted up and you are in our thoughts. Be sure to post as soon as you can afterwards.
  15. I had high hopes of losing a full 75 pounds by my 2 month anniversary, I almost made it at 73 pounds, that last 2 pounds is just stalling and not coming off. I weighed in at 302 this morning, 122 pounds yet to go. Unfortunately they did not weigh me at surgery time and my start weight of 375 is what I weighed at the start of my liquid pre-op diet - it still counts though! EDIT: Well SHAZAM! I posted this Sunday and got on the scale Monday and was at 300 lbs! Technically I guess I need to be at < 299 to make that 75th pound count but I was so excited. I try NOT to weigh every day but this is like watching a car odometer roll over to a huge number, can't take my eyes off it. NEXT GOAL: 275 pounds which will put me down 100 pounds and more than half way to my goal.
  16. Just 2 months out for me and YEP all kinds of gurgling, squealing and burping going on. I to am anxious to see if it continues.
  17. I too would go ahead and do it too. However my taste has changed so much since my operation I am afraid my opinion on cake would be worthless, hardly ANYTHING tastes good to me anymore. If you have a similar problem it may not help your daughter out much.
  18. Yep, 2 months out and a hard boiled egg is a BIG Breakfast, to get it, my Vitamins & pills and a small glass of Water with miralax and I am stuffed. It takes me about 1/2 hour to down them all. We are lucky, a FEW sleevers have reported that they feel hungry all the time. Glad I am not in that group.
  19. Tijuana is a HUGE city and the parts that are bad are not anywhere near the hospital. YES, there is a risk, not anymore than and other large city though, unless you go looking for it.
  20. Wow nasty bruise Sue. I hardly EVER bruise, it takes a bad bad hit or poke for me to bruise. The last one I had was during the IV insertion for a stress test I had last fall. Now I've donated blood and have had dozens of blood draws over the years but this was the worst stick I have EVER had. When she jabbed me I literally jumped out of the chair. The phlebotomist got snarky and said that "You are going to HAVE to sit still", she then poked me again, this time not as bad and fortunately she got a vein this time. I swear it felt like she was using a rusty nail instead of a needle. The whole test was a shambles. I will never use that hospital again. To get back OT: No bruises. Does anyone know if they use a thinner for surgery in Jerusalem hospital in Tijuana MX?
  21. What people don't realize is that the PRODUCTION of Ghrelin happens mostly in the stomach but the RECEPTORS are in the BRAIN ( http://www.vivo.colostate.edu/hbooks/pathphys/endocrine/gi/ghrelin.html ). Another confusing fact is that obese people have LESS Ghrelin in the blood than thin people. So does this possibly mean it is it taken up faster and therefor causing the obesity? You would think that obese people should have MORE ghrelin This really bears more study. I think that if we could solve this riddle it has more chance of saving lives that heart disease and cancer cures combined. Obesity is easily the number one epidemic in the USA and probably most of the first world countries.
  22. This is a quandary that only you can answer. I know of one other person that was in the same boat as you, he started to lose weight during the 6 month supervised diet. His dietitian told him on the sly that if he continued to lose weight he would be DISQUALIFIED from having surgery. He then started shoveling it in as fast as he could and actually GAINED weight He had to LIE about it and insist that he was actually TRYING to lose weight. He had to be careful when he went for his psych eval to make sure he appeared to not be sabotaging his diet He passed and about 9 months after applying had his surgery. As long as this type of policy is being held in place you can be sure that people who really need it will be denied and some will play the system to get what they want and a few will eventually qualify. I elected to NOT play the game and had self pay surgery in Tijuana MX. It IS risky and there is NO follow up other than phone consultation on your dime.
  23. I did not attend a seminar but booked over the internet for surgery in Tijuana MX. I submitted a questionnaire and received the "approval" the next day or so, I was asked to select a surgery date which could of been almost anytime within the next couple of weeks, I choose a date about a month distant. Self pay in MX is not for everyone but it worked for me. Had surgery 12/6/10 and have lost nearly 75 lbs.
  24. I too am a systems analyst, unfortunately I was down to a few days vacation, so I was sleeved in Mexico on Monday and flew home Thursday and was back to work on Friday. Much too soon! Fortunately I was able to take off between Christmas and New Years - boy I was having a tough time.
