I am right there with you! While I want to be healthy, I also want to look good! I am hoping to have as little plastic surgery done as possible after surgery, so any advice to help keep up the appearance is a godsend.

I've dumped very seldom and it was always because of eating too much too quickly--never because of sugar. (Unfortunately, I have learned that I can eat an entire regular chocolate bar and not dump--which I did only ONCE, I swear!) I eat lots of fresh fruit and have never dumped because of it.

I can eat a little sugar (like a candy cane - oops!) only after a protein meal. I always eat my fruit with protein or as dessert after a meal. I have never dumped. (And yes, I did write the candy cane down on my food diary before I ate it. It was an intentional cheat - planned and not impulsive. Not that it changes the calories, but it changes the impulsive binge behavior.)

I went through a real low mood period post op where i cried a lot and felt very depressed. I thought id never enjoy food again.
My relationship with food is very very different now - things can be too sweet! Never thought THAT was possible, I hate meat, it makes me feel uncomfortable in my stomach and grosses me out. I dont generally enjoy food unless its actually something really really good. And i mentally have to know its healthy too or the joy is all gone.

Head hunger is 100% real and probably the most difficult part - even though i dont necessarily want food, when im bored i just eat. Ive learnt the way to help me say no to things is to think about their taste (weird concept i know!). For example, theres a chocolate cake on the table in the staff room I know what choc cake tastes like... so i dont need to eat it! Works well for me

curlz74 got a reaction from JRT Mom in Lap band to gastric bypass
I am so glad I signed back into this forum! I had lap band in 2011, had some success, but no where near what it should have been. I started having more issues with GERD and still being overweight, my dr suggested going back to a surgeon. That's when I found out I could have the band removed and get RNY. My band was removed in November, and not I'm getting closer to the RNY - don't have a date set yet, waiting on insurance approval. To say I'm scared, nervous, confident and excited would be underestimating my nerves right now. Thanks to everyone for their insight and I look forward to chatting more!

For those that have had revisions from Lap Band to Gastric By-Pass, did your weight loss happen as you expected? What difficulties and advise would you share? My band was removed Dec 10, and the gastric by-pass is scheduled Feb 27. With my band I had already significantly reduced my portions, and eliminated many foods, like pasta, etc. I have been told that the life style changes required may easier due to my 14 years with a band. However, the weight loss may take longer.
