  1. So happy for you. I am a tricare patient myself so I have had years of dealing with them. I have surgery next week. I am doing the happy dance for you.
  2. Well I am being Banded on March 11th. I am on a two week preop diet which includes two shakes and soup for dinner. I am on day 6 and I have to say that I am sick of soup and shakes. However, I havent cheated. I tend to be a rule follower and my doctor has said that he has started surgeries to see that the liver was too large and had to reschedule for the safety of the patient. On a good note I am down 10 pounds since I started. As it gets closer I think that I will become more nervous because I have never really had surgery but I feel confident in my doctor. Best of luck to each of you.
  3. I am on day 5 of my preop diet. It is required by my doctor for all patients regardless of BMI. I was very nervous that I would be starving and cranky. I feel that this whole process is a journey and at this point it was my turn to step up and follow the program. I am not saying that I havent had moments of thinking of food. However something has come over me in the last 5 days. I feel like I am GAINING CONTROL. For the first time in 13 years I have control over food. I am down 9 points already and it could be water weight or whatever but I am in control. Dont look at the preop as a chance to fail but a real chance at success.
  4. Wow that is a great weight loss. I just started my liquid diet yesturday and I hope that I can loose ten pounds in two weeks. I am excited for you and wish you the best. Keep us posted.
  5. Sending good vibes your way hoping that you are recovering nicely and able to get some well deserved sleep. I am only two weeks behind you.
  6. It appears that each insurance requirement is different. I have Tricare Insurance and it appears that every other week there is a requirement to stay or not. At this point there is not an overnight stay for me but my surgery is scheduled for March 11th. Any time between now and then I could be told that I have to spend the night. I would prefer to be home but I am flexible. I made it to this point so I will just roll with it.
  7. Wow that is a long time. I have my preop appointment tomorrow and I need to find out how long it is going to last . Well I just called and they said that mine is about an hour long. I was worried there. I expect to learn the time of my surgery and hygiene stuff for surgery as well as the preop diet for the next two weeks. When is your surgery?
  8. Wow that is a speedy surgery. I have wasted more time in the grocery store than that! i am so glad that you are home resting. I have surgery on March 11th and start the preop diet on Saturday. I was expecting to probably have to stay most of the day. I guess it depends on what time your surgery is and how long you are in recovery. I will hopefully find out the time of my surgery tomorrow at my doctors appointment. I am very excited for you.
  9. I am being banded on the same day as you! I havent been told my time or anything yet. I really took a year to go back and forth on if this was the best option for me. I researched and read as much as I could about my doctor and hospital and the surgery itself. I even went as far as watch one on you tube. (Dont recommend that for those with a weak stomach) During this time my husband and I talked over what ifs and all the changes that can happen. Only after I completely made up my mind did I tell my family and friends. Only I know my body and what it needs. Unfortunately without this surgery I probably wouldnt ever be "average" . My mom was upset that I wasnt waiting till summer when she could take care of me. My friends are shocked that I am doing it. I believe that they are happy for me for the most part but as with anything it will change our relationship. I am doing this for me and if they truely love me then they will do their best to support me. One of my friends I believe likes me to be the heavy one because it always makes her feel better about herself. I dont say that meanly but it is true. She is probably one of the only ones that has really not been supportive but I believe that has to deal more with her then me. I will be your band buddy. Keep your chin up and everyone else will fall in line. If they dont are they really your friends?
  10. I am very excited to say that I am being banded on March 11th. I really wanted to be banded during our spring break so that I could have a week off to recover. Initially, I was told this morning that I couldnt get any time before the break and was told the earliest was March 24th. This would cause me to have to take off several days from work. I emailed my boss to ask for the days. I dont know why but I felt bad. Then the doctors office called and stated that they had an opening on March 11th which is a Friday before break. I am so lucky because now I only have to take off one day. I love my doctors office. Now I have to go to the doctors office on Friday for a pre-op diet till surgery. This works out great because my husband has been gone for 6 weeks and he comes home on Friday afternoon. I can have one more nice meal with him before the diet. I am so ready and scared all at the same time. Yay!!!!!
  11. I have heard others mention on the boards that some of the regions of Tricare are harder then the others. I am in region South and I was approved pretty easily. However, I have heard that North is more difficult but not impossible so what ever region you are in dont give up. You have to keep pushing forward and get medical records and diets you have tried what ever you think that increase your odds. Best of luck to you.
  12. I hope that your surgery went well. I am still pre-op but I know that when I get stressed my middle back hurts pretty bad. Hopefully all of this has passed now and you are resting comfortably.
  13. I am in Texas-the Fort Worth area. Nice to meet you! I am hopeful to finish the pre-op stuff and have surgery around March 10 so that I have all of the spring break to heal. My doctor mentioned that Tricare changes is mind dailey on whether or not you have to stay the night following surgery. Anyone else hear this?
  14. I am in tricare region South. I hope that it helps. I think it helps if your doctor basically builds a case for you. I am hopeful that I can get surgery during the schools spring break so I wont be out too long. One step at a time and it seems to be coming together nicely. Have faith you will get it.
  15. I am a Tricare Prime Member. My BMI is 36 currently and my doctor submitted my case for approval on Tuesday. When I came home yesturday I checked the tricare website hoping to see that the request has been entering in the system. I was very suprised to see that I had already been approved. It was less than 24 hours. I only have high blood pressure. So mine was very quick. I hope that this helps you feel a little better about your chances.
