    Starting Up

It took me a while to find it but i finally did.:clap2:. I live around the Bismarck/mandan Area and had my LB surgery done by Dr. Schmit. Although I didn't have a problem with the costs because my insurance company agreed to pay for it. I have not gone in for a group meeting afterwords... but I am on my 5-6 fill but one of them was so they could take some out. I'll be going in for my next check up on the 18th of june... On the 22nd I have to be in a wedding so hopefully I haven't lost too much I just had the dress refitted. But I probably have because I 've been helping my dad redo a mile of fence out on some property. I dont want to make the bride mad... But good luck to everyone!!

    Help-Incision not healing?

I found out that patience it the best thing, when mine opened up i could probably have fit a quarter in it, and it took longer than usual to heal. all I could do was put peroxide on it and tape a little piece of gauze over it to stop my shirt from going it it because I was back at school and I'm a mechanic. It healed after about 2 1/2 weeks it was very slow and I had to be careful. But now i have a really nasty scar there. but I was told by the doctor after all the scars have healed up and the stitches have been long gone to put aloe vera gel and gently massage it in, it will help break down the scar tissue and make it so it doesn't stick out as much, and after time it will fade.

    feeling a little funny

First things first... This is kind of my blog of what is happening since my surgury if you do not want to read a blog, just dont bother reading my journal, because I'm just tracking how I feel and what is happening to me. Wasn't feeling so hot today, I had a stomach ache because I tried taking all of my meds today. I didn't crush the one because my doctor said it would be ok to take it as is, so we'll see how I feel later. Hopefully the stomach ache is just from being off of the medicine so long. But I'm learning ' No matter what, just think positive' , it makes the day seem a little better. Tomorrow I get to go shopping for supplies for when I go back to college! I'm hoping I'll be feeling ok, even though I strongly dislike shopping, it will be fun to see how I feel beings that school is coming up and I can't sit during my classes (there all lab classes so we don't get any chairs to sit on from 8am-3pm) I think a day full of stress filled shopping is sort of similar. Lets hope all goes well.

Jan 3 and all is going well i think

Well now its Jan. 3, 2007 and my incisions are healing very slowly but surely... I got to help take my puppy to the vet today, I felt so bad because now he's going to ingore me all day because of it, but he had to go, it was also the first car ride i've been on in a while, because the seat belts would rub on my stitches. So i was really excited! I know it sounds boring but it was fun for me because i haven't gone out in a while i just walk on the treadmill and do stuff around the house.

    Good news about stitches

I drove to my LB doctors today, and he looked at my incisions that are opening and he said they look great they are healing well and that no infections have entered my body or my band so I was excited to hear that. But he did tell me to continue to wash them out with peroxide 3x a day. but he said if i have any complications to call him immediatly, and that he would see me on the 15th of Jan on my first check up

    Great day

I got to see my boyfriend today, he is my main emotional support, but since we are on Xmas break for college i dont get to see him very often because he lives a couple hours away. But he saw me for the first time today, and he stopped and looked at me and gave me a hug then he said "WOW you've lost alot of weight I can tell. And you look thinner already." (although i've only lost 15 lbs since he last saw me) I was so happy to hear that, and instead of walking on the treadmill today we went for a walk around town. It was nice to see him, he has really helped with my pre op nerves and post op nerves. I dont know how to thank him enough.

Ten days after band was put in

I called my LB doctor today and he will look at them tomorrow because he wants to see what they look like

Ten days after band was put in

It has now been ten days after the band was put in and I am experiencing some slight problems. My stitches are dissolving before my incisions have healed and are opening. The doctors told my that they cannot restitch them, they have to heal from the inside out. Of course this will leave major scaring because they are gaping holes. I was told to was the holes 3x a day with peroxide, and put a little piece of gauze on it to keep foreign objects out, and hope i dont get and infection on the inside. When my first hole opened up I was so scared this was my first surgury. I was shaking uncontrolably, and in alot of pain. Luckily my boyfriend was there to help me calm down, (he had broken his femor and had to go through a lot of surguries). A week to ten days is what the doctor said it would take to heal. lets hope all goes well.

    Help-Incision not healing?

I have had the same problem only I had the dissolving stitches put in (my LB doctor's choice) and one of my incisions opened up 2 weeks after the surgury. I called my LB doctor and he said there is nothing he can do for me because he won't restitch it. He only told me to wash it 3x a day with peroxide and leave it open dont pull it shut with steri strips... I was a littler angry a week to 10 days to heal hopefully it will work
  19. Hi! I'm excited to have found this site. I was banded on Dec.18th 2006,by Dr. Schmit, all is going ok. I am having some problems with my stitches dissolving before the incisions have healed, and they wont restitch them shut, Other than that it is going well. I go back for my first check up on Jan15th 2007. I am still on a liquid diet trying to transistion into the 2 weeks after surgury diet. I'm a college student hoping to change my life(and health) with this surgury and avoid joint replacement beings I am a mechanic that is enevitable but I'm hopeing with this it will postpone it alittle. Hopefully I'll find some helpful hints to help me along the way here (like recipes, exercise, and any information about first check ups, etc.) If you can give me any tips I would be extremely greatful.

    First day

My first day I only got pain medicine once and that was a small amt. after the operation. that was about 11:30am. they told my to rest a bit. I was up and walking by 12:15pm, the nurses didnt help me though. I had to sit up by my self put my IV on the little rolling carrier and walk to where i needed to go and come back and then, try to get back in bed with our hurting my self. it kind of sucked at first trying to figure out how to sit up but you get a hang of it eventually. Good thing I have a pretty good pain tolerance.

    2 days since surgery

I was banded on the 18th of Dec and i had the hiccups all the time, never vomited, i felt nauscious (spelling is probably wrong) and my doctor gave me medicine to put on my wrists. The pain in the shoulders is from the gas that they use during the surgury, I have talked to several people who have had gas used during surguries and they all agreed that trying to walk around a little bit and trying to move helps alot. My first day I only got pain medicine once and that was a small amt. after the operation. that was about 11:30am. they told my to rest a bit. I was up and walking by 12:15pm, the nurses didnt help me though. I had to sit up by my self put my IV on the little carrier and walk and get ice chips.. it kind of sucked at first trying to figure out how to sit up but you get a hang of it eventually. Good luck to everyone!

Best gas pain relief remedies post surgery???

I was banded on Dec. 18th 2006 Walking helped me. but now my acid medicine prevacid, makes me have gas problems like burping, etc. I also have a problem I call it an air lock, i really dont know what it is, but sometimes I get a horrible cramp in my lower stomach region, near my lowest incision. It sometimes happens after i eat or drink or just randomly. I've followed my diet step by step not skipping a thing. It just happens randomly, if any one knows what it is, your information is greatly appreciated. I go in for my first check up on Jan 15th of 2007, I'm a little nervous about it, whether its erosion or slippage... any information be for the first check up will help my band was stitched in place... I don't know alot about the band types... I had my first Lap band meeting for information in Aug. of 2006 I'm going to ask my doctor more questions on the 15th.

    December Bandsters

Banded Dec 18th 2006, had a pre op diet ( YUck all those nasty shakes I tried). Working towards my Post op 2 week diet. YAY all is well, except for my stiches are dissolving too soon and my incisions are opening, they told me to wash them with peroxide 3x a day and only put a little piece of gauze over it to stop things from falling in it, aka, dust and dirt if i'm out side... Did this happen to any one else? But other than that all is well and i'm progressing well.
