About this blog

Hey Everyone.  I never thought I would need a gastric sleeve.  I had a great career but traveled 20+ days a month.  At age 58 I was diagnosed with full blown diabetes.  My blood sugar was 800 when I was hospitalized.....too much stress, too much restaurant food, too little sleep, moving from time zone to time zone....you get the picture.  Recent EKGs show heart rhythm issues.....I am 5’5”, 230 lbs. Age 66.  I am up to 600 units of insulin a day.  The Drs think the diabetes is starting to affect my heart.  The Endro Doc says time for a Gastric sleeve since weight loss drugs are a no-no.  I go in for my first class on Thursday.  I still walk everyday but Doc says that will not do it and increased Cardio not a good idea.  So my journey begins.

First Meeting

Today was my first class.  My husband, my biggest support for 45 years went with me.  The presentation covered the types of surgery, the nutritional needs and the behavior health issues.  I felt good about all the info until the surgeon  that said I may never eat ice cream again!  Kaiser Permanente is very good.  It will take 6 to 8 months of pre suegery work before I finally get the sleeve.  I have my first nutrition appointment next Tuesday and have my mental workup tomorrow morning.   I was a little freaked out about the # of calories you will live on.....I still wonder where you get energy from ?  Things to ask The nutritionist.  Later friends
