Hi, I am just beginning this process of learning more about the lapband and thought before I went any further I should check my insurance to see if this will be covered. The insurance booklet says no bariatric surgery will be covered. So is that it? Should I not even go any further and get my hopes up? Its BC/BS PPO of kansas city. My bmi is over 40, I have been between 60-100 pds overweight my whole life, and I have high blood pressure. What in the world am I going to have to do to get this approved?

They kinda want you to think of the book as the end all be all, but it isnt. Call the number on the card and ask. It may help to call and ask specifically about the CPT code for Lab Band, if that is the only surgery you are interested in.

I would also go to the employer and ask them about this because it may not be the insurance it may be the employer who chose to have bariatric surgery excluded from the plan.
