Self Pay Insurance Question

I was banded March 2006. At the time I had BCBS AL and Aetna - and neither covered lap band. So I self payed. My surgery was March 6 and Aetna started covering the procedure in April 2006. BCBS Al also now covers as of last year. My question - if I have any problems down the road will my insurance cover - since the procedure was not approved at the time of the surgery? Do you think they will now cover fills? Let me also say that if I had waited for BCBS AL to finally decide that it was not experimental - I probably would not have been alive.
