hi all I am new here and I am getting banded june sixteenth and I have never had surgery before. I have also never been put to sleep. I see a lot of people say its a breeze. I am self paying and this has to work. any advice would be appreciated.

dude you would of stood a better chance at winning last weeks 200 million dollar mega millions than dieing under anestectics,,i been put under 4 times 6 if you count the colonoscopys,,but thats what they call twilight sleep, i even smoke and told them they never said the wouldn't as long as your health you'll be fine and if you weren't healthy no way and hell they would do it this is elective surgery the dr's can make the call..so i would not worry,,they always have to tell you what the worst case scenioro is is,,it will be dangerous driving to the hospital,,than being put under

Nothing to worry about - people have operations all over the world perfectly safely. Being put to sleep can seem a bit scarey, but really it's a breeze.

Be prepared to feel sore after the operation. That can take a few days to get rid of. Your body will repair itself in a remarkable manner. I had my latest operation last Friday 23rd May and I was home the next day.

Dude! It's a piece of cake! You've got a bunch of highly trained experts doing a procedure they've done zillions of times before. They know exactly what they're doing.

It's natural to be worried before an operation, particularly if you're a big guy - I was 473 lbs at the start of this - but it really was fine. I walked into the OR, lay on the table, they put an IV in my arm, and then I woke up with a band. It was EXACTLY that fast.

Really, everyone sweats it a little, but there's nothing to worry about.

And, look at it this way: continue with your weight and lifestyle the way they are now... THAT's something to worry about!

In a way, with a band, you HAVE won the lottery. You've made a great decision, just relax and embrace it. I'm down 50 lbs from my operation 10 weeks ago.

Had the surgery this past Wednesday, was home late that afternoon, slept on and off all day long and the next thing I knew it was Thursday. There was some discomfort but no real pain that made life unbearable. Prepare ahead of time and have somebody with you most of the time for the first few days and it will be easy.

I was very nervous before the surgery. My wife both had surgery on the same day so we had a chance to be nervous together and I have not regretted the decision to have it.

For me it was pretty much a non-event. Went to sleep on the table, woke up in recovery and felt wide awake and ready to go. Wife had a little bit of pain and was a bit groggy, but still nothing really to complain about. Both of us had that On Q pain management thing, which may have made it easier, but to be honest I think it would be the same either way. If you get a bit freaked, ask to speak to the Anesthesiologist before the surgery. Mine called the night before to go over my medical history. Put me more at ease.

Just think 98-99% of open heart surgery is successful. That is where they crack your chest open, re-wire your arteries to a machine, stop your heart, mess around in there for a while and then rewire your arteries again and start your heart back up. 99% success for that! This is like a billion times less complicated.

Do your research on your surgeon and facility and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Like everyone here has said, going under is probably the easiest part of any surgery. As for the jitters, I've had quite a few surgeries, and I still get the jitters before any procedure. Even something as simple as blood work. But you got us here to help you out with it!
