Medicaid/ uhc-community plan NJ

Question for anyone familiar with united healthcare community plan in NJ. I wanted to know if I need a referral from PCP prior to just the surgeon consult appt. My appt scheduled for this week and I didn't even think about possibly needing a referral until just now. I tried calling uhc, but the customer service agent didn't even know what I was asking when I said bariatric surgeon. He kept saying geriatric surgeon. So I was just wondering if anyone else had any knowledge on this.
