Hi everyone, I'm so new to this so please forgive me if this has been spoken about before.

I live in New York and have Affinity insurance.

From what I have heard, if you have a BMI over 40, you will have no problem getting surgery. If you have a BMI over 35 but under 40, you have to have comorbidity with other conditions... I am almost positive I have none of them but my BMI is just under 40. I'm really concerned I won't be approved.

Also, does anyone have Affinity and know how they are with covering bariatric surgery? I have yet to get any answers from them and I'm really nervous that they aren't going to cover me. I was hoping if I do qualify for surgery, they would have me pay my deductible and then cover the rest but maybe that is the best situation and I'm very wrong.. Lol.. Help!

I had Affinity insurance way back --5yrs----when I had my WLS.

Keep in mind that was before all of the health insurance changes through Obama Care.

Anyway, Affinity paid for my WLS--totally. I had no copay, no nothing out of pocket.

Good luck. Post and let us know how you make out.

Valentina, that is great to hear. I'm sure something is different with Obamacare now but I would like to think some is covered. Do you mind elaborating on your process a little bit? I've heard people have to wait a significant amount of time with certain insurances?

Four months from first consultation to surgery.

One visit with the Nut. monthly----I think I only needed three visits.

I had to weigh less at the end of the four months than I did when I started.

Mental eval

Cardiology eval

Pulmonology eval

labwork

Endoscopy

X-rays

Informational seminar

two support group meetings.

I think that was it.

Everything was covered by Affinity.

I hope it will be the same for you.

Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
