NJ Obamacare coverage...

Wondering if anyone in NJ who is covered under Obamacare has had bariatric surgery such as the sleeve, lapband, etc?

Yes I had sleeve surgery using an Obamacare health insurance plan. My plan was and still is Horizon BCBS Advanced EPO Gold.

Angelstwo, thank you for your reply. I greatly appreciate that.

Did you have any issues with this insurance and finding a doctor that takes this insurance?

I did not have any problem finding doctors who accepted this insurance. But I just found out Horizon is discontinuing this plan in 2016. I will have to research the available plans for 2016 to find a replacement plan.

I just did some quick research on the plans available for 2016 from Obamacare. I only looked at Horizon plans since they are the easiest to use in extreme southern NJ. It looks like most if not all will be covering bariatric surgery next year.

Just my luck! Oh well!

I think you misunderstood - they are covering bariatric surgery at least the Horizon Omnia plans I looked at (Omnia Silver HSA, Omnia Silver, and Omnia Gold). I did not check all their plans or the plans offered by Amerihealth or Health Republic.

Thank you for clarifying that for me Angelstwo. I'm in the process of checking out insurance's as I lost my job and will lose my health ins within 2 weeks.

I searched those plans they offer coverage for in network doctors only no out of network coverage...which I think my doctor is out of network.

Obamacare or any personal health insurance you purchase usually does not cover Out of Network costs. My surgeon only takes United Healthcare Oxford which I can purchase, but the hospital he does surgery is out of network.
