i have Medicaid and they covered the lap band.....had to fight, tho!!

They do require 6 months of supervised diets..usually your PCP.

Hello, I am trying to get the band also and i have medicare too, what steps do you take? The only thing I have gotten is a referral from my family doctor. Lost....Need to know what to do now? Help

Your six months of medical supervised diet is interpreted differently from state to state... where you live may have an impact on this... I live in Florida for example and they have the most DIFFICULT rule interpretation of the National Coverage Database... I've posted some useful information on Medicare.

The good news is that if you don't want to wait the 6 months, can't afford to pay (since Medicare doesn't cover weight loss programs), and you've been unsuccessful on diets, you can go elsewhere that doesn't have such stringent requirements.

I'm planning on going to California for the Lap Band.
