Obama Care

09/13/2013

Hi,

Does anyone know if there are any provisions in Obama Care for WLS?

I heard on the news a few weeks ago that being over weight is now considered a disease.

Does that mean that our insurances have to cover WLS once Obama Care is implemented?

Wouldn't that be wonderful!

Really Hoping

It's a definite maybe.....they don't have to cover bariatric surgery. They may only cover obesity screening (height and weight measurement) and verbal or written education on obesity and the importance of weight loss. Older plans won't have to change anything they're doing. Moral of the story? Don't hold your breath but there's a chance.

(PS it's a newspaper article, it's not written by a rocket scientist, but it is a decent summary)
