Will Medicare Pay For Sleeve Surgery

Hello all you wonderful people.

I am a senior 66 yrs young, with a laundry list of medical problems and a BMI of 46.

I know I read somewhere that as of June 27, 2012 that the sleeve surgery was going to be covered by medicare. I have told that to the surgery's nurse that checks eligibility and they keep telling me that I am not covered under medicare for that surgery. I know I read the guidelines wherever I have seen that article and I would be covered. The nurse wants me to finance the surgery and I don't want to do that. Can someone please clarify if it is covered or not. I live in Las Vegas, NV.

Thank you all for your time, and any help you can give me.

Respectfully,

Karen

Hello and Welcome.. Medicare and Medicaid have approved the gastric sleeve on a case to case basis. The medical contractor in your state decides if you're eligible for surgery so it is a waiting game to find out but you can get approved.. Don't give up before you have checked all all your options..

Good luck!
