I'm New Here...

I have a question...

I have a consult set up with the bariatric surgeon for July 11th and when I initially talked to them, I was pretty sure that I wanted to go the RNY route. I have since done tons of research and realized that the sleeve would be best for me and my goals. I was told when I spoke with them that my insurance was pretty easy going and they typically get quick approvals for the RNY from them. I have Anthem BCBS. Does anyone know if they cover the sleeve as well? I am 5'4 and 270 lbs. They said my BMI was around 46. Thanks in advance!!! :)

You would probably have to call the insurance company .. If heard of ppl w the same msurance company but some had exclusions for weightloss surgery because the employer pick that .. So I think u should call to be more sure but I wish you luck I help they do cover it or Bmi is the same but I'm 5,7

I actually posted in the pre op forum too and someone sent me a link to the coverages. It looks like they will, but I'm going to call them anyway, just to make sure, lol. The insurance is through my husband's work and he said the only thing they don't have is infertility coverage...we know that for a fact, sadly.

And, that's kinda cool about the bmi number.

Welcome!

Yep, DO call, and get it in writing too! Better safe than sorry, the forum has more than one story of insurance companies backing out or changing coverage at the last minute.

Thanks! I will make sure they send me something stating they cover it. Thanks for the advice! :)
