Edit button is back!

Hi everyone,

The moderators and site owner have determined that it makes sense for users to have the ability to edit their own posts indefinitely, so that ability has been restored. From here on out, though, users do not have the ability to delete entire threads--even threads they start themselves--so if you've ever been prone to doing so keep this in mind.

Thanks for your patience while we worked out the details!

That's awesome news!!! Thanks Alex!! (And the other Alex & the other moderators!)

Yaaaaayyyy!!!

Ok, the edit is back, but where is the delete? I'm not celebrating the return of the edit, because we all know it was coming back.

Are we trying to overshadow the demise of post deletion by celebrating the return of the full edit?

(edit) Not the deletion of entire threads, just my personal posts in a particular thread...

You can edit your words out... delete 'em all or leave just a <delete> or, or, or, something. And change your username if you don't want to be yourself... then no one would know who posted it.

I'm guessing if you want to be totally gone, a moderator could still do it.

Thanks for responding to the cry for Edit.

Will we have the ability to delete our own posts or is this a final thing?

I appreciate the thought you all have put into this and respect your decision. I'm just trying to be clear on the final ruling.

My options may vary a bit because I'm a moderator, but when you click on "edit" isn't there an option there to delete? You should be able to delete posts, I believe.

If that's not an option, you could just delete the whole text of the message and leave it blank, I guess.

Edit works for me - in the edit field, you can get rid of anything you posted - or change it - or add to it... It's as good as delete as far as I can tell...

Thanks gang!

So you can get rid of everything you said... but not the fact you were there. Heh, sometimes I just wanna go away & hide!!!!

**sigh** Oh well, I'm just happy to be able to edit the front pages again!

That's exactly my point...sometimes I'd just rather nobody know that I was part of a conversation.

See how this parenting psychology is working? We're so grateful to have the edit back that we're willing to give up the delete.

I know, I know.

:deadhorse:

If you don't want people to know that you were part of a conversation then don't post. Why waste the time and post your opinion just so you can erase it, if for some reason you were not proud of what you posted then you should not post at all.

Thanks Alex for working on getting us out edit feature back.

Heh, I almost feel that my opinion is important at the moment I read something... but then when things go south, I wish I was never involved, and I really hate when I start getting quoted & the quote makes someone mad. I'm very much a people pleaser & avoid confrontation whenever possible! I do believe it's a pathological condition!
