notifications for friends list

Is there a way to turn off the notifications I get when someone adds me to their friends list? I really don't need to get an email, and a notification on the site, when this happens... I've dug around a bit to see if I can turn the notifications off but I haven't figured it out yet. Thanks!

ETA: I think I've figured it out :)
