  1. Ok 3 days since surgery, still have that pocket of air that I spoke about earlier today and if I could burp like my hubby I too would feel better! Dont know why it is there, but it is..I havent figured out anything to do about that yet! The pain that some of you are saying is in the arms, shoulders etc I am sure it is gas. Yesterday I drove to the grocery store and walked around for about 15 minutes did my steps going upstairs and down (20 steps each way) total of 6 times and took no pain meds since 3 yesterday afternoon. Today I went looking for a new couch..only made it to two stores then came home (nope didnt find the couch I wanted and I got tired) folded and hung 4 loads of laundry-the kids set if on my bed so I could get it a little easier. They carried the clothes to the closets for me. I just got out of the shower and continue to pass gas. I read on here that someone said walking was the best thing for it, it DEFINITELY helps and once you can get that moving you will have significant relief in your stomach! I had a protein shake and a 1/2 yogurt today along with all my fluids, working on another glass of water now. I go in for my recheck on Oct 5th and am excited. Now that I have accomplished something today I feel even better!
  2. I had my surgery yesterday morning and everything went fine. I am nervous at every twinge of discomfort that I feel because I am worried about the whole "slipping" that I have read about. Pain med is just tylenol extra stength in a liquid form. I did not sleep well at all last night due to the discomfort. I have five "holes" where they went in for surgery I was surprised I figured three..I am going back to work on Monday so I have the weekend to finish recuperating. I am excited to start this journey..I did well with the pre op diet and took off 13 pounds in 10 days while on that. Thanks to all of those who take their time to post, I have read many many posts over the past month and decided to join today. :smile2:
  3. I know everyone is different and every dr is different but I was banded on 9/22 and outside of some discomfort (yesterday and today were really pretty good I even drove to the grocery store yesterday) I was told to start adding soft foods in within the first couple of days. So today I had not quite a half of yogurt and I had a protein shake - I am just curious as to when others are adding stuff and what you are having? I am terrified of getting sick to my stomach-sometimes I feel like I have a heavy pocket of air sitting at the top of my stomach-I am still passing gas so I hope that ends SOON! I would just like to hear what others are doing this early!! Thanks so much!

    Hernia Question

When I had the EGD done I was told there was a hernia that they would probably repair but after surgery they said they didnt do anything to it?? Dont understand why...if it was there regardless of size would you not think they would have repaired it? I will ask at my follow up in 2 weeks - I don't know if there is a thing that at a specific size they dont bother? I figured since they were in there they would have done it?

    September Bandsters!

I was banded 2 days ago and did not have any pain meds until yesterday afternoon so I slept last night which was WONDERFUL, I got about 5 straight hours..however I woke up this morning and was starving. So I grabbed a 1/2 cup of coffee and now I am having a protein shake. I needed something to give me a feeling of fullness..this works best at 42 grams of protein it will hold me over most of the day! I cant wait to start on mushy things, I am pretty tired of liquid stuff, between pre op and now post op at least I see the end in sight on liquids only...I have company coming into town on Tuesday so I have stuff to get done around the house - my surgery was scheduled prior to the visitors coming but its family so i couldnt say no. That is going to be a tough week though of people visiting and being restricted on food. I didnt realize how much focus we always put on food until the past months...a shame really. When they told me of their plans I instantly went to "What foods do I need to get in the house, what meals should I make..." Amazing how foods have gotten too be such a big part of our lives.
  6. The mocha latte atkins advantage shakes have 16 then the whey protein I add is another 26 grams so 42 total for one shake - can't beat that!
  7. Brenda- I had to laugh maybe it isbeause we are 40! Or too stubborn to take pain meds. I did get a different script since my first one was denied and this time I got Roxicet (liquid oxycodone) and I took some as soon as they got it to me (my son went and picked it up, having an 18 year old can be wonderful!) I feel SO much better! You will have to share with me what your little chef is cooking up for you! I had a protein shake today and it really hit the spot. I was hungry sitting here all day. I have been up walkiing and have done the stairs a couple of times (my room is upstairs) so I have gone up and down a few times and am actually feeling well enough I am going to make dinner for the family tonight. I think they were hoping I would order pizza for them, since I started my pre op diet and am going through this I have made some big changes in what I even keep in the house for the kids and husband as well. It surely wont hurt any of them to make some positive dietary changes along with me. I am looking forward to what your cousin makes so you will have to be sure to share! Looking forward to keeping up with your progress! Take care Kay
  8. I like the mocha latte atkins shakes, I add one scoop of whey protein because protein is really key to staying fuller longer. I also do the whey protein (mine has 26 grams of protein in it) to 8 oz skim milk and add in sugar free chocolate syrup. The first couple of times of drinking the protein I thought I would never enjoy it...I do not mind it at all this way!!! Sometimes for a change when I make it with skim milk I add in one serving of nescafe instant coffee (walmart 97 cents for a box of 8 I think) and slightly mix that in, enough to dissolve but no so much that the coffee taste is gone! I have tried several ways, I prefer shaking it and not using the blender because the blender seems to magnify the whey protein. Just test different things you will be pleasantly surprised I think!
  9. Tiffany, I feel MUCH better! My doctor prescribed a different pain med since the first one was denied..I have been out walking around which has helped the gas move so between that moving out and the pain med I am a happier person! I am NOT looking forward to Monday..I will work a full day then immediately go to a meeting that I has been scheduled and I absolutely cannot get out of which will go from 5-10 pm then turn around and go back to work on Tuesday, so my first day back is overkill. Your Monday doesnt sound as though it is going to be a good day either. I did not tell any of my co workers why I was off this week. So many people think that the lapband is an easy way out instead of a tool and a very strict process, so I guess some of it is being ashamed and embarrassed. Have you had a protein shake yet? I am working on my first one since surgery yesterday. That seems to help my stomach too. I do not like being home all day watching tv LOL I think EVERY commercial is about FOOD! Keep in touch would love to see how things progress for you too! Take care!!

    Newbee...considering the band

Hi! I just had my surgery yesterday, I am so excited to be on this journey. I was able to take weight off quickly with low carb but as soon as I ate ANY carbs it was right back on plus more, until it got to this point...my process moved VERY fast. I attended the seminar on Oct 16 and had surgery Sept 22. They submitted my paperwork to BC BS and within 2 days I had approval! It moved so fast it was almost scary. My co pays were very limited ($5 for lab $10 for xray $20 for psych $30 for an EGD and $10 for my PCP visit) My PCP was a little apprehensive but when I laid it out to him that I was not here for his personal opinion but for a medical release for surgery he realized that I was doing what I felt was best and now has been wonderful. My best friend is going through the process now and will be banded hopefully next month. It really came down to doing what I needed to do for myself, I wish you the absolute best in your decision. If there were other tools that worked this well then I would have maybe reconsidered, I do not regret it even the day after. Had a tough night last night but I did not take any pain meds, I took some today, have been out walking and am feeling pretty good. Pre-op diet for me was 10 days, I followed it very strictly and lost 13 pounds in those 10 days. I know I can do this - I have to do this. I not only want to be around for my family I want to be an active part of their life. Can't wait to play with my son and not have sore knees from walking or playing. My husband and three kids are very supportive and that is the most important because it is not just changes for me it is for them too. I wish you the best this board has a TON of great insight..I was on it for months before going to a seminar, it gave me the encouragement I needed to move forward and to not be embarrassed with my decision. Good luck!!

    Had my surgery yesterday

YAY sounds like I am in good company with both of you being banded yesterday too! I am getting some pain medicine now (my son is getting it for me, there is an advantage of having an 18 year old child) the Tylenol just was not cutting it. I did some walking today, which helped get other things moving, which alone helps! I am doing the clear diet but they said to have a protein shake too, so even though I was nervous about drinking one..I am having it now. Staying down absolutely fine and it feels pretty good getting something in me again! I have to go and figure out how to add the ticker etc. So glad to have others on here banded at the same time. I know all dr.'s do everything different, are you guys strictly on clear liquids? For how long? Sorry I just want to see what others are dealing with. I am SO glad to be moving forward with this new journey :smile2:
  12. I was banded yesterday, here I sit in my bed with the laptop - I did not sleep well at all last night, I did nap when I got home yesterday but was very uncomfortable through the night. My pain med is liquid extra strength tylenol the pain med that was prescribed for me, my insurance co. denied it when my hubby went to get it filled! So Tylenol is it. I have 5 "holes" where they went in - sore throat due to the tube but all of it is OK :smile2: I am excited about the next few weeks and getting past all of this. I am returning to work on Monday! Any tips for the first few days/weeks???
