    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Hi all, I have been so busy with family matters that I have just now got caught up with reading a weeks worth of board messages. I got my first fill today, the procedure was a lot easier than I expected. Five cc's were instilled and I go back to one day of liquids and one day of pureed foods. Hopefully this fill will give me the restriction that I need. I hope things improve for all that are experiencing bumps in the road. CS so sorry for your loss.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Hi everyone, I have been busy getting ready for my sons wedding. Struggling a bit with the food and hunger. I won't get filled for another week. Food was always my comfort and companion when I was stressed and now I need to find another outlet for these emotions. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Kll. glad your feeling better. Its funny how each doctor does the same procedure but in a different way. My doc won't give a fill until your six weeks post op. I have lost weight but it's not because of the band. It is teaching me self control though and let me just say I need some of that. Keep up the good work! Also, Pitpat how are you doing?

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Hi everyone, I feel like I just graduated! It has not been an easy journey but so well worth it. I was banded on sept 7th and have not had a fill yet so basically i have been running on sheer will power. I am hoping in two weeks when I get a fill my body will be trained to pick up the signal of fullness. Thanks Brian for getting us together on the other side. Keep in touch sept banders!
  5. Congratulations to all of you new banders. For me when the staples were removed at 2 weeks things really started to improve. I was terribly bruised and sore post surgery and because I take blood thinners I bled more than most. I couldn't wear a bra until the staples were removed and believe me the girls were not happy. My doctor actually offered me photos taken of the surgery. I could not tell if they were of me or someone else. A liver looks like a liver! Keep up the good work.

welcome PitPat, This is a great site. I am doing well, had my staples out and feel so much more comfortable. I am still on mushies but can eat tuna, egg and chicken salad. I have found some great pureed soup recipes and have been testing them out. Anyone have any good ideas for the next stage . I am almost afraid to start eating solids again. You guys are terrific!
  7. Hello again, Now that its been almost three weeks since my banding I feel really great and have been going nonstop. Saw the doc on 9/21 had the staples out and went to my first support group meeting. Many subjects were discussed and I must say it was very worthwile , but where were the thin people? There were many there who were banded one to two years ago and still have not lost their weight. Of course I hadn't seen them before but a BMI of 50 was the highest you could be to qualify for surgery. I must admit I was surprised. Well, all the more reason to work my program vigorously. I am still on mushies for another week and found a great recipe for an egg in a mug. Easy ,filling and high protein. Spray a large mug with pam. put in the mug one light laughing cow cheese cut uo and 1/2 cup egg beaters, stir. Nuke on high 1 minute, then remove and stir and put back in microwave for another 30 to 45 seconds until not watery. The combinations are endless only about 100 calories an about 15 gms of protein.
  8. scarredforlife I love chocolate too! My doctor allowed up to three sugar free fudgicles a day. They certainly helped me get over the boring hump of liquids. Post surgery the tropical flavored sugarfree popsicles( only 5 calories) seemed to help with that heavy feeling under my breast bone. This procedure is not a cake walk but after about a week it gets much better! Hang in there!

Hi everyone , I am delighted to have found this site. I am 63 years young and was banded 9/7/2010. Not on a regular diet yet , still with the mushies. I am doing ok , but look forward to eating something with texture. My md won't fill until 6 weeks out and only if weight loss slows. I am fearful that after so many failed attempts at the diet games that I will not be able to change my habits. Hopefully this dog can learn a new trick. So glad to be amongst people who are willing to improve their lives. Thanks
  12. hi lillyegg welcome to the other side. lucky you only one incision , I have four that itch like crazy! It took me ten days to feel human. I thought this was going to be easier but lets face it if it was easier we would have tried this long ago. Good wishes for a speedy recovery.
  13. Hi to everyone! I am beginning to think the scale is my enemy not my friend! Because I am compulsive I can.t stay off of it and lets face it if we are following doctors orders honestly ,the pounds have to come off at some point. I am thinking of getting rid of it. I ate like a banchee and must have gained ten lbs pre preop diet. I see my m.d. on tuesday to have my staples removed.I think his scale is the only one that counts!
  14. Hi all, hard to believe most of us have already been banded. About pureed soups, I googled lowfat pureed soups and found how easy it is to make your own. A great one is butternut squash soup. In a pot put 4 cups peeled cubed squash, 1 small chopped onion, 1 peeled cubed med potatoe, in pam or a tiny bit of oil saute to bring out flavors then add 2 cups chicken broth and simmer until soft season w/salt pepper a little nutmeg and puree . yummo!
  15. Hi everyone so happy to note we all are on the way to better health and fitness.. I have to remind myself that although our goal is the same our journeys will be different. I have lost about twenty lbs feel pretty good but food thoughts have been entering my mind. My doc won't even think about a fill untill 6 weeks. I feel this is just a regular controlled diet for basically 2 months. two weeks preop and six post op. any onels feel the same?
  16. good morning to everyone! It's been six days days since surgery and I can finally say I feel almost normal.. The only problem I am having is a sudden urge to expell gas and with it diahrea. Sorry for being so graphic. Any one experiencing this? Any suggestions?
  17. good to hear we're doing pretty well. My only problem is that tightness under my breastbone. yawning, coughing etc. Any one else have the same issue? I am very sleepy but have not taken any pain meds. Hoping to get my energy back soon.
  18. Tommorow is the day I cross over to the banded side of this journey. I am getting somewhat antsy but I know this is the right decision for me. I'm sending my prayers and best wishes to all you who have the same band birthday as me and a special thanks to all those who have gone before me and who have helped me by their experiences in this group.
  19. Hi everyone sounds like we are working toward the same goal with a few differences in our doctors approach with pre op diets. I am counting the days until tuesday the 7th of September and looking forward to being post op. Cathy I"m glad you shared a little about yourself because it wll bring us closer together. I sometmes think because I am older(but young at heart) I don't quite fit in. Because of everyones honesty and caring I feel this is my safety net. I am going to lose some friends because of this surgery. We have been eating buddies and foodaholics for many years. Although we always talked about weight loss we kept on eating. Since my talking about lapband and proceeding with surgery things have cooled off with them and I can't help but feel left out. I know a real friend would be supportive andI am hoping they will come to grips with my decision. Thanks for being here.
  20. Danide only four more day for me too. todays my preop at the hospital. A good quality of life is priceless and what would your quality of life be 10 years down the road.. Today you can't even buy a decent car for 16,000 dollars! Kudo's to you for taking charge of your life. Insurance companies for the most part only care about making MORE profits rather than caring for their customers. I pay 1500 dollars per month for being agravated constantly by them. My cobra ran out and hubby is self employed. Hopefully a slimmer me with fewer comorbidities will result in a less expensive policy. Good luck to banders pre and post we are in this together
  21. way to go Pooky! Let us have the details when you are feeling up to it.
  22. Hi all, If I am not mistaken vitamin C is water soluble so whatever the body doesn't use is washed out. I don't think you would be overdosing on vitamin C . If you are prone to kidney stones then it may be a problem. Vitamins A,D,Eand K are fat soluble and not excreted. Best wishes to todays banders your journey has officially begun!
  23. Glad to hear most everyone is doing well. Those with insurance issues don't get discouraged. I have dealt with Cigna before and it does get frustrating. Always ask for the persons name . It helps when the reps know they are accountable. Good luck to all todays banders. For any one needing a high Protein beverage try Isopure. One bottle has 40 gms . I bought it at the Vitamin shoppe. Cathy glad you are now going out. I am doing well on day 5 of my pre-op. Almost fearful of weighing myself because I get compulsive and will be jumping on and of the scale all day. Is this normal?
  24. welcome , and congrats to all new bandsters. It's encouraging to see how well we are doing. today is day 4 of my pr-op and going ok. Tommorow my ekg and bloodwork at the hospital and then reality is really going to set in. The only thing i've missed is not being able to bite into something and chew. Gum would help but I have a mouthful of dental caps. Anyone have some suggestions?
