  1. Hi all, I wanted to throw in my two cents on the shoulder pain. I have had it intensely! I was banded on 7/23/10. I have a friend who has ALS and he told me that the swelling from surgery is pressing around the diaphragm(sp?) that is near the stomach - there is a nerve from the diaphragm that goes to the left shoulder and as long as there is swelling there pressing on it, it will hurt. He had to have a procedure done on his diaphragm because of the ALS and his Mayo Clinic docs explained this would happen to him. Makes sense and it made me feel better to have a legitimate explanation.
